Hotel Sassi ★★★
"My daughter and I spent an absolutely wonderful two nights at the Sassi Hotel last week. We loved our room 503 with amazing views over the Sassi from the bedroom and bathroom windows! The beds were very comfy too and the air conditioning was good. It is a really lovely, quaint hotel built into the rock and is a brilliant location for visiting everywhere in Matera. Loved the bruschetta at breakfast. All the staff were very friendly too. We didn’t want to leave!!"
Aquatio Cave Luxury Hotel & Spa ★★★★★
"Well worth a stay, fantastic!"
HOTEL MOSAICO ★★★★
"Excellent hotel but way out of town in a lonely industrial area, perfect for those with a car. Wifi in some rooms is quite disappointing too. other than that, modern facilities including swimming pool (closed in December obviously), ample car park, large bedrooms, and superb breakfast."
Albergo Del Sedile ★★★★
"The location is great and the facilities are clean and great. The only downside was that the heater was broken, making it difficult to sleep."
Hotel Cave Del Sole ★★★★
"The establishment was clean and breakfast adequate. The room was soulless, clean but No character. Entrance and exit to hotel very precarious, be aware .location to matera not great as too far to walk, which was disappointing especially when visiting restaurants. Would need to taxi both ways ."
Pianelle Resort ★★★★
"Absolutely loved the hotel, very comfortable and the bathroom is amazing. Perfectly located to enjoy Matera."
Best Western Plus Dimora del Monaco ★★★★
"Although this hotel is a little smaller, it is very good in all aspects. The facilities are very new and the location is relatively good. It is suitable for self-driving and staying there. The front desk is also very enthusiastic. If you go to that city, you will stay here again."
Casa della Luna ★★★
"Fantastic property inside a Sasso Caveoso cave dwelling. Clean and welcoming, and right in the heart of the Sasso Caveoso! Ideal for visiting Matera from a central location. Perfect and punctual welcome. Highly recommended!"
FRA I Sassi Residence ★★★★
"An unusual cave room with a stunning view of the city, an amazingly delicious and varied breakfast made from fresh local produce"

Sant'Angelo, Matera - Small Luxury Hotels
"Our stay at Sant’Angelo Luxury Resort in Matera was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with genuine warmth and outstanding hospitality. The check-in process was smooth, professional, and made us feel immediately at home. Our cave room was absolutely beautiful—full of character, luxurious, and thoughtfully designed while preserving the unique history of Matera. Waking up to breathtaking views over the Sassi was a magical experience and one we’ll never forget. Breakfast was exceptional, with a wide variety of fresh, delicious local specialties served in a spectacular setting overlooking the ancient city. The location of the hotel is perfect, allowing you to explore the Sassi on foot while enjoying a peaceful and authentic atmosphere. The staff went above and beyond throughout our stay, always friendly, attentive, and eager to help with recommendations and arrangements. Sant’Angelo Luxury Resort is a truly special place that perfectly captures the beauty and history of Matera while providing five-star comfort and service. We would highly recommend it to anyone visiting this incredible city and would love to return."
Eurostars Matera la Suite
"Very close to attractions, within walking distance. Convenient parking. Delicious breakfast."
Palazzo Gattini - the Leading Hotels of the World
"This is probably the best hotel in Matera. Located right next to the cathedral, the square in front of the hotel offers panoramic views of Matera's Old Town. The hotel is a converted protected building, with elegant design, spacious rooms, and beautiful scenery. The hotel's restaurant, Le Bubbole, is also excellent and deserves a five-star recommendation."
Cenobio Hotel & Spa Matera
"For a four-star hotel, the room facilities are not adequate. More tableware and space for placing items could be provided. Because you need to walk in SASSI, the breakfast is great."
Locanda di San Martino Hotel & Thermae Romanae
"Nice, spacious room. A bit far from reception. Upon arrival, there was a musty smell. Friendly staff."
Residence Masseria Santa Lucia
"Very nice place with great potential, but the service is a bit disorganized overall. Nothing special, though."
Vetera Matera
"No notes. This hotel is perfection. We stayed in cave rooms, each was unique but equal in its charm and beauty. The spa is fabulous and the staff top notch. Hotel is a perfect location for exploring Matera on foot. Even during off season there were good dining options and plenty to see."
Piazza Mulino 26
"Piazza Mulino is well located close to the center of Matera within easy walking distance of the Sassi. It is a simple place, very clean, and comfortable. Great value for money."
Il Carrubo Residenza Walk&Stay
"Just a wonderful place! Very clean, I was afraid to meet there spiders, as on the streets they are, but there was no living except me and it was perfect!!! Very clean, excellent work air conditioner, they even two, but enough and one. The location is beautiful, in five minutes walking a crowd of people, but here super quiet and at all no one in the evening on the weekend! Breakfast was delicious, the owner cooked a delicious coffee, was a very delicious Italian kitchen. I went to the meeting very much and I was able to settle much later on the hour of the arrival, the owner was in contact, I warned him about the delay. WiFi works great. Just, I'll definitely come here again) The owner sent a detailed instruction on settlement and problems at all there was no!!! (Everyone would learn from this owner)"
MOYSEION Matera
"Incredible hotel! I liked everything! Living in a "cave" with torches on the walls, immersing in the fantastic atmosphere of ancient Greece - delight! Guests are given special clothes in which everyone comes for breakfast or performances. Very beautiful spa area! Recommended! And wish once in life here to visit! Staff too at height! Thank you!"
San Michele Luxury Rooms
"Dirty rooftop terrace (bird droppings) and non-functional jacuzzi (turned into a bird bath). Room key incident: The key broke in the lock without us forcing it. The hotelier called a locksmith for a cost of 25 euros. He asked us to pay this amount, which we refused as it was a problem with the key and not damage caused by us. Unauthorized charge to our credit card: The day after our departure, 152 euros were charged to our credit card without our consent (using the imprint taken during the reservation). The hotelier did not inform us of this charge. Lack of communication and professionalism: When we contacted him to express our dissatisfaction, he stated that he was entitled to charge this amount "in accordance with Italian law." He then stopped responding to our messages when we asked him for documentation for our insurance. Comment: This event ruined our stay in Matera. We absolutely do not recommend this hotel. The lack of cleanliness, technical problems, deplorable customer service and the questionable practices of the hotelier are unacceptable."
Il Belvedere
"The view from this hotel is absolutely stunning; you can see the entire Sassi district at a single glance. It’s also very easy to access by taxi, which is a huge plus in Matera. The room was spotless, including the bathroom and sink, and the staff welcomed us with such warmth. The breakfast was delicious, but the view from the breakfast area was the real highlight. Having breakfast here felt like a sightseeing experience in itself. If you're coming to Matera, I highly recommend staying at this hotel!"
Hotel Del Campo
"Located outside the historic area. Room was spacious with room to layout 2 suitcases. There is a safe. Nice sized desk that has a light. Bathroom has a lighted shaving mirror but the light didn’t work and the mirror was so loose it wouldn’t stay in the position I needed. The supplied blow dryer is feeble and you have to hold the on button all the time. Combo shower/tub was slippery and the shower head was difficult to use without spraying the toilet next to the tub and the floor. The nightstands on each side of the bed had a built in USB port but they only work when the bedside lights are on; no overnight charging while you sleep unless you loosen the bulb. The room had a refrigerator/mini bar. Breakfast was very good- a very large selection of meats cheeses breads cakes cereal etc. multiple coffee options. Overall a good option for this area"
Hotel Nazionale
"Better than expected. It's cheaper here than in the west, less crowded, but quite clean, and the rooms are quite spacious."
Hotel Casino Ridola
"An excellent choice for your stay in Matera. The rooms were lovely and very comfortable. The swimming pool was great for an afternoon break from the heat and walking. The staff and breakfast were excellent!!"
