Hotels near Model Railroad Museum, San Diego

"We stayed at The Sofia Hotel and overall had a very good experience. Compared to other hotels in the area, it’s a solid deal. The room wasn’t huge, but it was perfectly fine for a two‑day stay. The interior shows a bit of age, yet everything was functional and comfortable. The location is excellent — you can easily hop on the trolley to explore the city, and the train station is within walking distance. We even took the train back to LA, which was very convenient. A few small notes: the hairdryer could definitely be improved, but we were pleasantly surprised to find a microwave in the room, which was very handy. The highlight of our stay was the receptionist, who was incredibly accommodating and even let us check in early."

"location is ok but quite a long walk and hilly. Room is large and clean. The basin in not in the toilet but outside near the bed area. Breakfast is good. Overall is good for me. Thanks"

"Very enjoyed the hotel! Located in the area of gas lamps, until the sign of gas lamps on foot 10 minutes. There are very many bars and restaurants nearby! Noisy in the evening and night. I settle for an hour earlier, thank you a nice girl with respiratory! When set-up, I was given a coupon for $25 for food, as a result the next day, a dense and delicious breakfast in their restaurant on the 1st floor, cost me only 4$!! The room itself is clean, with a small window and a portable air conditioner (from it comes a pipe into the window). In my room, there was no plume of a sink, I was changed immediately, and it seems to be more spacious, on the 3rd floor. There is no elevator in the hotel, the staff are very kind to help lift the baggage, there the stairs even have a special call button of the staff. On the 2nd floor there is a “secret garden” that is a street veranda with tables and seats. There are coffee machines, a large choice of tea and ice, all free. I liked the hotel style, such a restrained classic and old. Still, the hotel is located in a historic building. I recommend it unequivocally!"

"Good, safe location. Room and bathroom were fine, although an entire dresser was missing from the room and everything was situated on top of the fridge. The lady at the front desk was very friendly and allowed me to leave my bag prior to checking in. The guy at the night desk didn't bother to say hi back though."

"The hotel is close to the airport, you can hear the sound of the plane taking off, and there is a train passing by. If you like quiet at night, this hotel is not recommended. If you are a flight enthusiast, the roof platform can see the plane taking off and landing, which is very suitable for shooting; the hotel is modernly decorated and the service is acceptable!"

"The location of the hotel is right in the center of San Diego, the staff is very friendly. They kept our suitcases for us on the day of checkout until the evening. The hotel has a terrace with a 270° view of downtown San Diego, you can see the sunset and the planes landing at the airport. There is a coffee maker so you can have the coffee you want. I would definitely return to this hotel."

"Great location, clean and tidy room, very comfortable bed. The staff were friendly and the whole stay was pleasant. Good value for money, I'll definitely stay here again."

"Tried hotel when it opened in 2018 and glad to be back in summer 2024. Good location, remember that parking nearby is paid. Hotel with spacious rooms, equipped with kitchen with everything you need, large fridge, microwave, very comfortable beds, excellent bathroom with products provided, good intercontinental breakfast with eggs, bacon or sausages or hamburgers, waffles, jam, yogurt, nutella, cereals, and importantly they provide some gluten-free breakfast on request. Recommended"

"They are in the process of renovating an old Days Inn. Its repainted, but the elevators were not working. Looks rundown from the outside. Inside the rooms were nicely upgraded."

"Good point It is close to several major tourist attractions in San Diego. It is also close to the station (trolley, Amtrak) and the bus stop, so you don't have to worry about transportation. The supermarket (Ralphs) is also within 5 minutes walk, so it is cheaper than others, so it is recommended to procure water at this supermarket. The lobby part of the hotel was so much, but the room was quite fashionable and better than I imagined. There is a shared train range in the lobby. Not good. Because it was unmanned at check-in, there were some guests who were troubled because they did not know how to check in. It may depend on time, but I would like to improve the lobby, such as installing a call bell in an easy-to-understand manner."
