I had a very enjoyable stay at this hotel during my visit to Kathmandu. The property is beautiful and full of character, making it an excellent choice for travelers who appreciate traditional Nepali architecture and culture. The hotel has done a wonderful job preserving its heritage charm, creating a peaceful and authentic atmosphere that feels very different from a typical modern hotel. As an eco-friendly property, the hotel does not provide air conditioning or a refrigerator in the rooms. However, I did not find this to be an issue at all, as the weather was pleasant and comfortable throughout my stay. The staff were outstanding. Everyone was warm, friendly, and genuinely helpful, always greeting guests with a smile and making me feel welcome from check-in to check-out. Breakfast was simple and fairly standard, without a huge variety of choices, but everything was fresh and enjoyable. The yogurt, in particular, was excellent and definitely worth trying. There was only one minor issue in my room: the ceiling fan seemed to run at the same speed regardless of the setting, so even the lowest level felt quite strong. I never mentioned it to the front desk because it was not a major inconvenience. The biggest area for improvement would be the Wi-Fi connection. Unfortunately, the signal was quite weak and unreliable, especially for anyone who needs a stable internet connection for work or communication. Despite that, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The beautiful traditional design, eco-conscious concept, relaxing atmosphere, and exceptional hospitality more than made up for the small inconveniences. I would happily recommend this hotel to anyone looking for an authentic Nepali experience in

My flight arrived in Kathmandu at 10 PM, and immigration took forever, so I didn't get out of the airport until almost 11 PM. I had emailed the hotel in advance to request an airport pick-up. I honestly thought no one would be there given how late it was and the lack of a contact number, but I saw my name card among the crowd waiting for cars at the exit. As a first-time visitor, this was such a pleasant and heartwarming surprise! The car took me to the hotel, which is located in the bustling, central Thamel area. Right downstairs, there's a 'Chengdu Skewers' restaurant. The hotel itself is one of the tallest buildings in the vicinity and boasts a glass-enclosed restaurant on the 12th-floor rooftop, with a pool and spa on the 11th floor – quite a bold design! Breakfast was good, and the service was attentive. The location is convenient; a rickshaw takes just 6 minutes to Durbar Square. The room size was adequate, but I was a bit disappointed to only get a room on the 4th floor after requesting a high-floor room. Also, the bathroom had a strong, foul odor that permeated the room even with the bathroom door closed. This backflow smell seems to be related to the plumbing and hygiene and definitely needs improvement. Other than that, everything else was great!

The staff here is incredibly helpful and attentive to my needs. They offer free luggage storage and drop-off services at the airport. Even when I was about to take off, they wished me good luck with a small scarf. I highly recommend staying here. I think I’ll be staying here again when I travel to Kathmandu next time.

I had a wonderful 8-day stay at Mercure Kathmandu Sukedhara Heights and it truly felt like a home away from home. From the moment I arrived, the service was warm, professional, and consistent throughout my stay. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, and the overall atmosphere of the hotel was calm and welcoming—perfect for both relaxing and unwinding after a busy day. A very special appreciation goes to the reception team, especially Alon and Shreesha. They went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable, always greeting me with genuine warmth and taking care of any requests promptly and thoughtfully. Their kindness and attention to detail really made my experience stand out. The hospitality here is exceptional, and it’s clear the team genuinely cares about their guests. I would definitely recommend this hotel and look forward to staying here again.

The location is good. You can go shopping downstairs. It is not far from the airport (Nepal's transportation is not that fast, so it takes about half an hour). It is a very good hotel for the local area, equivalent to the domestic Four Seasons or Kaiyuan Hotel

The hotel is conveniently situated right behind of the Garden of Dreams. Just a short walking distance to the busy Thamel area. The vicinity has convenience stores, cafes, eateries and pharmacy. The room is quite small but it's alright for a short stay. The bed wasn't quite as comfortable as other hotels that I've stayed. Very basic fitness facility in the hotel, do wish that they would make the gym bigger and better equipped. The breakfast buffet is good enough for some fuel before heading out to explore. Omelette could definitely be improved but I do like the mushrooms and bacon with my omelette. They also have a soup station which you can pick what you want to go into your soup. The soy latte was nicely done. Some day they serve the chocolate cake which is a must try. Staffs are very well trained and speaks good english. I'd definitely recommend staying here for the value for money, fantastic location and good hospitality.

The room made a decent first impression and did the bare minimum. But, it quickly became clear that it’s best suited for a very short stay. The bed was comfortable enough. Overall, the room is fine if you’re just passing through, but anything longer starts to feel like stretching it. Staff presence around the hotel was limited. They clearly run on a lean operation, which can go either way. The guard in front of the elevator stood out in the best possible way and added a genuinely warm, human touch, which helped balance things out. At check-in, I was given two complimentary cocktail coupons for the upstairs bar, which immediately lifted my spirits. This was a place I had enjoyed many times before and often recommended to friends and family. I had good memories of the atmosphere, the food, and the general vibe, so I went in with high hopes. In the past I had written raving 5-star reviews of their restaurant food and amazing service! Unfortunately, the experience that followed didn’t live up to those expectations. What should have been a simple, enjoyable night out unraveled into confusion and unwelcoming interactions. Small moments piled up, the mood shifted, and it became clear that the experience had gone off the rails. Rather than force it, my group and I decided to take our time and money elsewhere. Sometimes you read the room and move on. I returned to the hotel later that night and stayed over. Took a hot shower in the morning, loved the smell of their body wash, btw! Another brief interaction during checkout reinforced the same theme: rigid, abrupt, and lacking the kind of hospitality that makes guests feel welcome. All in all, it’s disappointing to see a place I once enjoyed and freely recommended lose its consistency and warmth. I’m no longer comfortable recommending it, and I’m not sure I would choose to return. As for the unused cocktail coupon, I still have it. Any takers?

Nice hotel in the city center with all the conditions I need. There is a good restaurant on the top, and the coffee shop on the ground floor. The service was perfect, the men from reception, his name is Birendra, allowed me to leave my belongings while I was on track, and helped me with all the questions I had.

I stayed for 2 nights, it didn't feel safe for me as a solo woman traveller. One the first night around 11pm there were 3-4 men shouting and laughing and knocked my door. I was scared and called the reception. The phone wire was not connected to the phone, i have to hold it tight to the phone while i was speaking. It was a terrifying experience. When in emergency even the phone wasn't working! the receptionist took 30 min to for the men to calm down. The next day morning the receptionist told me they men moved out. But i saw them in the evening in the hotel. Didn't feel safe. Again, the men, shouting and aloud. Still i couldn't sleep there, awake whole two nights i stayed there, didn't feel safe. The place was clean. Location was good.

After several trips to Nepal, I finally decided to treat myself with a stay at the famous Kathmandu Guest House. So glad I did. So much peace, grace, charm and beauty .. and of course, the history!
