Guest UserSanpeiso was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. The ryokan beautifully preserves the atmosphere of traditional Japan while offering excellent comfort and hospitality. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome and took great care of every detail throughout our stay.
The room was spacious, spotless, and overlooked a peaceful garden, creating a very relaxing atmosphere. The onsen was exceptional — the hot spring water felt wonderful after a day of sightseeing, and the entire bathing area was quiet and beautifully maintained.
Both dinner and breakfast were served in traditional Japanese style and were outstanding. Every dish was carefully prepared, beautifully presented, and showcased seasonal ingredients. It felt like a true cultural experience rather than simply a meal.
What impressed us most was the authentic character of the ryokan. Unlike many modernized properties, Sanpeiso retains the charm and elegance of a classic Japanese inn. The combination of attentive service, excellent cuisine, serene surroundings, and high-quality hot springs made our stay unforgettable.
If you are looking for an authentic ryokan experience in Atami, I highly recommend Sanpeiso. We would gladly return on our next visit to Japan.

zxl821031The best hotel in Atami! On the day of check-in and check-out, you get one free taxi ride to the station – just tell the driver your destination and you can hop off without paying. The rooms are spacious and come with a private hot spring tub, and the minibar is complimentary. The public onsen also offers free drinks. Dinner is included in the room rate, but I'd recommend skipping it since Atami has plenty of great restaurants. Breakfast is very international and suitable for Chinese tastes. I'll definitely choose this hotel again next time I'm in Atami!

There's a free shuttle bus from Atami Station. We stayed in a tatami room, which was very clean and had an absolutely stunning view. If the weather's good, you can even watch the sunrise from your room in the morning. Upon check-in, we received complimentary tickets to the hot spring facilities at the new building. The open-air onsen faces the ocean and was incredibly enjoyable. Inside, there are various lounges, making it easy to spend half a day there. Dinner was served at the new building, and after our bath, we ate at the time arranged by the front desk. The food was incredibly plentiful and delicious, and alcoholic beverages were also complimentary. When we returned to our room after dinner, the staff had already laid out our futons – such a thoughtful touch! I highly recommend this hotel for family trips.

Guest UserGood: The hotel is close to the beach and a 6-minute walk from the JR station. It has a large public bath and offers free drinks and ice cream. The hotel is very new.
Bad: The hotel price is a bit high. The parking lot is behind the hotel, which is a bit inconvenient for entry and exit and requires staff assistance. Parking costs 1000 yen per night. Perhaps there was an error when booking, as I only booked two beds. When checking in, there were two adults and one child, and we were not allowed to stay. We had to upgrade and pay extra to check in, but there were no three-bed rooms, only four-bed rooms. The staff insisted I pay extra, so in the end, I had no choice but to pay an additional 25,000+ yen per night, totaling 51,000 yen for two nights. I had no choice but to pay. Aside from this rigid rule, everything else was good. I will not stay here again or recommend it to friends.

Guest UserMy experience at the Shin Akawo Hotel was absolutely superb. The architecture is grand and elegant, and the surrounding views are breathtaking. The signature infinity sea-view hot spring is incredibly atmospheric and truly therapeutic, facing the ocean directly – soaking in it was extra relaxing. The buffet restaurant offers an amazing variety of dishes, all fresh and delicious. The refreshing and detoxifying Yuzu drink was a perfect touch. Highly recommended!

Excellent hotel.
Beautiful, clean, traditional.
The onsen was beautiful with a view of their garden. The water was heated perfectly with immaculately clean water. All amenities were offered when you stepped out into the changing room, ear buds, lotion, hair perfume, shampoo and conditioner. As you exit to your room there are two massage chairs to enjoy.
The room we stayed in was perfect, It had a view of the bay, a big balcony, and three separate rooms. I was traveling with my son and this afforded me a private room to change my clothes and be separated while we slept. Freshly pressed kimonos were provided for the Onsen or/and to attend breakfast in.
Now I'll talk about the highlight.!
The breakfast buffet and dinner were included in the very reasonable price. The breakfast was extensive with fish, eggs, yogurt, homemade delicious jams, salads, fresh fruit, natto, sausages, rolls, bread, pastries, a coffee machine with choice of lattes, cappuccino, etc, a juice machine, fresh milk from famous Tanna dairy, and more! It was amazing!
Dinner was also delicious, changing every night with selections such as broiled fish set, fried chicken set, steak set, all were seasoned well and perfectly cooked. All came with soup, rice, main entree and dessert.
The staff were welcoming, kind and caring, friendly. The manager even sent me a special note about a piece of art I was curious about.
Highly, highly recommend this Ryokan.
I never wanted to leave.
It's just outside of Atami, in the hills, beautiful location.
Go, relax, nurture yourself, I did 😊🥰

This place was surprisingly good! The scenery is indeed beautiful and the rooms are spacious. What really stood out was the more extensive self-service drinks available on the first floor – a very thoughtful touch. I'll definitely be back next time. Highly recommend!

Only 9 minutes from Atami Station, no stairs all the way down the slope, check out there is a shuttle bus up the mountain. Guests staying can choose their preferred yukata style. Breakfast is a buffet form, dinner is more old-fashioned Japanese food package, the taste is quite satisfactory. The hotel has more Japanese guests than foreign guests, who may only have 3 or 4 groups. The rooms are spacious and offer tatami-laying services, the sea view is excellent. The day of the fireworks festival will also open the rooftop for guests to watch, the rooftop is completely unobstructed very clear!

I stayed at this guesthouse in Atami last December and had a pleasant experience overall. The location is quite convenient, as it’s close to Atami Station. There is a short uphill walk to reach the guesthouse, but it’s still manageable.
Overall, I would rate the guesthouse 8/10. The main thing to note is that, as it’s a guesthouse, the bathroom and toilet are shared. There is also an onsen available on-site, though it requires an additional fee (which is not expensive). The onsen operates on a time schedule since it’s shared between male and female guests.
The host was friendly and welcoming. I didn’t really get the chance to use facilities like the dining area or the rooftop, but the dining area has a balcony with a nice sea view, which looked great.
Another big plus is that the guesthouse is within walking distance of Atami Heiwa-dōri Shopping Street, making it very convenient for food and shopping.

Anonymous UserThe room was actually quite spacious, bright, and comfortable, with clean beds and a fantastic full ocean view. However, the facilities were a bit dated. Also, probably due to staff shortages, the hotel offered guests staying multiple nights a 2000 JPY credit per night if they opted out of housekeeping, which could be used at the hotel's outlets. The hotel's location was a bit tricky to find. Arriving at night, the navigation led us through small alleyways and stone steps. Carrying luggage up those steps was quite a struggle 😰, and after descending the stone steps, we still had to climb a slope… 😂. I'd recommend taking a taxi if you're arriving late! Overall, this hotel was very comfortable, and it was a pleasant end to our in-depth trip.
