Hotel Nikko Kaohsiung

Excellent

This was my third stay at this hotel since its grand opening. I visit Kaohsiung about every six months, and overall the experience has been consistently pleasant. The facilities are well designed and maintained , and the staff are friendly and professional . There was one issue during this stay—the shower drainage was clogged, so I had to use the bathtub instead. This is something that ideally shouldn’t happen at all, but the hotel’s response was okay. They came to fix it next morning as it was late. The soundproofing and AC are excellent. I especially enjoyed the hot spring and the gym, both of which are well equipped and relaxing. I didn’t include the buffet breakfast this time, as I preferred grabbing local drinks, buns, and snacks from the 7‑Eleven or FamilyMart just across the street as well as leaving room for lunch later. The desserts at the lobby café were delightful, and the Japanese restaurant was absolutely divine. It’s just a pity that I didn’t know the omakase needs to be pre-booked. The restaurant doesn’t reserve seats for hotel guests or ask about this in advance, which was a bit disappointing. The set menu was very nice. Overall, it’s still a hotel I enjoy staying.

Great location less than 20 minutes from KHH airport. It is within 8 minutes walking distance from SOGO for those who love to shop department stores. There are 7-11s ( more than one!) Family Marts and a PX Mart (grocery store) along each road. Very convenient. The drinks at 7-11 will be cheaper priced than Family Mart and PX Mart and sometimes they will have a BOGO on select items ( I got an extra baby wipe pack by sheer luck). The Family Mart will have more unique items (ex Kombucha, health teas etc). The food selection for both places will be a bit limited for grab and go eats. Think sweet pastries and snacks. They do have some sandwiches but not super healthy if you are vegetarian. The hotel has complementary breakfast that starts at 6:30am ends at 10am. It is a buffet the fills up the entire room. There is a wonderful mix of local foods, one Western style pot. There is a small salad bar, fruit bar, coffee/tea and a small short order cook that will fry up 4 items (eggs, scallion onion omelette, turnip cakes). There is an other side has at least 10 varieties of local foods. The quality is great! Not too oily, 2 congee pots ( regular and Hong Kong Style). Fruits include what is season (Guava, apples, watermelon) and oranges, bananas. I will warn you about the late night snack (Dim Sum) buffet. Located on same floor and it starts at 7pm. That is a busy mad house. The line to queue up starts earlier and it will go down the hall to the stairwell. Lots of tour buses come to this location and tour groups will flood in each week during season. I went during early April for 9 days. I would go to breakfast at 8 am and skipped the nighttime crush. Restaurants are readily available all around and very affordable. This hotel comes with complimentary laundry DIY and laundry powder soap. Make sure you write your room number on the dry erase placard and stick it on each machine you use. Otherwise another guest may accidentally throw their items in and use the machine. The dryers are on top so hard to see what’s on the bottom. There is a free lounge in the lobby that has complimentary ice cream, coffee/tea and jasmine flavored gelatin cups. You can sit there all day if you like and sip on a free espresso or other drink. This hotel comes with a lot of amenities at a reasonable rate— I will stay here again next time.

Excellent hotel! The rooms are spacious, and the bed was really comfortable. The soundproofing was decent. The breakfast was fantastic – you can choose from a menu, plus there's a buffet, and they even have Haagen-Dazs ice cream. They also provide complimentary drinks and snacks in the room, which was a very thoughtful touch.

We were extremely impressed with our stay at this hotel! We absolutely loved the unlimited snacks available throughout the day, including coffee, tea, junk foods, and especially the ice cream. One of the highlights of our stay was the complimentary 24-hour laundry service, which was very convenient and added great value to our experience. The breakfast buffet exceeded our expectations with its wide variety of delicious dishes. Our room was clean, comfortable, and relaxing, providing the perfect place to unwind after a long day. The hotel's location was also excellent and convenient for exploring the area. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for comfort, convenience, and outstanding amenities. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This hotel is right at the intersection in front of Kaohsiung Main Station, so the location is absolutely fantastic, and transportation is super convenient! You can leave your luggage before check-in, which is incredibly helpful for travelers from out of town. The front desk staff's explanation was very clear and easy to understand. We checked in just as the afternoon tea service was ending, and I really appreciate that the staff allowed us to enjoy the items in those last few minutes – thank you! 👍 The breakfast offers three main courses to choose from, and they were all incredibly delicious. There's also a wide variety of snacks and options for breakfast; it was so good we didn't want to leave. The room comfort is excellent, and everything is super clean and tidy. When you turn on the TV, there's even a special welcome message thanking you for staying, which made us feel really happy. We will definitely choose to stay at JOHO again when we come to Kaohsiung! 👍

PAPO'A HARBOR HOTEL

Check-in and check-out were very smooth, with the front desk staff being friendly and efficient. There's a coffee corner on the first floor, but to my dismay, when I wanted a drink in the morning, there were no coffee beans at all! It was there, but unusable. On the other hand, there are water dispensers on each floor, which is very convenient for refilling water. The water pressure in the room's shower was excellent, making for a very comfortable shower experience. (Though, for some reason, the water pressure at the sink was really weak...) However, the blackout curtains in the room have a serious design flaw. They don't fully block out the sunlight, leaving significant gaps on both sides. Around 6 AM, intense light streams directly onto the pillow and headboard, making it impossible to go back to sleep. My sleep quality was severely affected for several consecutive days, which greatly diminished an otherwise good stay. I suggest the hotel install more effective blackout curtains (they really need to completely cover the window without any gaps) to ensure guests can enjoy a good resting environment, even at dawn.

The location is very convenient, as it is very close to the MRT, making it easy to travel around The room was spacious, clean, and well equipped with amenities such as a hair dryer, towels, soap, and shampoo, which made the stay very comfortable We were also pleasantly surprised to find a large onsen style bathtub in the bathroom, which made the stay even more relaxing However, guests need to bring their own toothpaste and toothbrush. The staff were very friendly and helpful, which made the experience even better🫰🏻❤️

Hotel is relative clean. Stayed in a single room with a semi double bed. Size is decent but didn’t realised it was behind the lifts, could hear the lift moving through out the day. The shower head position is pretty bad. It’s not on an angle it’s pretty much like spraying directly into your body. It would be great if they could address this. It’s 15 mins walk from the metro station so not closed. Also there was a cockroach in the bathroom. Crawled out of the drain

Single Inn (Kaohsiung Station)

8.7/10

Single’s Inn was a functional and reasonably priced stay for three nights. The location is one of its strongest advantages: the inn is around a ten-minute walk from the main station, where buses, local railway services, bus stations, and the metro are all easily accessible. Breakfast and a small hot pool is included, and guests are provided with pyjamas, slippers, one regular towel, and one smaller towel. The inn also has a laundry room and a common room. The staff were able to communicate in both Mandarin and English. Overall, the inn offers the type of experience one might reasonably expect at this price point: basic, convenient, and sufficient for a short stay. The main limitation is sound insulation. The walls and doors are very thin, and I could hear people in nearby rooms coughing, talking, and snoring. Noise from the corridor was also noticeable, including doors opening and closing, people walking in slippers, and general movement. Sounds from the washroom, especially hair dryers and doors being opened or closed, were also easy to hear from the room. The hair dryer in the women’s area worked well, but became a recurring noise issue in combination with poor soundproofing. Overall, Single’s Inn worked adequately for a short stay, especially due to its proximity to transportation and the inclusion of breakfast and basic amenities. However, I would not personally stay here for more than two nights, particularly as someone sensitive to noise.

My stay here was absolutely fantastic. The room was much more spacious than I expected, very comfortable, and impeccably clean, which made for a truly relaxing experience. The breakfast spread was extensive and delicious, I looked forward to it every morning. A major plus was the private garage, offering secure and convenient parking – a real thoughtful touch for travelers driving. The overall environment was quiet, and the staff were all very friendly. If I ever visit again, I would definitely choose this hotel and wholeheartedly recommend it to my friends and family.
