Kyoto-Gion Tourist House

Gion/Kiyomizu Temple
The location was very good. It was easy to walk to Kiyomizu-dera Street, and it was also close to Gion Street. It was convenient as there were many restaurants nearby, convenience stores, and supermarkets nearby. There was no elevator, but they helped us carry our luggage and it was not inconvenient. I chose it because I wanted to stay in a Japanese-style tatami room, but it was a 2-room room with a kitchen and living room. It was comfortable.

My parents and I stayed at Daiya Ryokan for a week in mid November 2023. Overall, we thought the location was superb and incredibly convenient. The ryokan is a traditional style Japanese house and offers an interesting cultural experience during your stay at a very reasonable price. Amenities are basic and showers and bathrooms are communal but this should be expected at the price point. There is a Family Mart located just opposite the ryokan which is perfect for breakfasts and meals on the go. Daiya Ryokan is only a street away from the grand Higashi Hongan-ji temple, making it an easy addition to any itinerary. There are many shops nearby and the station is only around a 10 minute walk away. This is great for making those early morning trips to popular attractions and late night last minute shopping runs. The only real issue I had was with the stairs - the lower half of the stairs does not have banisters and there are some furnishings and decorations on the midpoint of the stairs that can be anxiety inducing when trying to move your luggage up and down. The futons were also quite hard and you can feel the ground lying down. Overall, I was quite happy with the quality of the accommodation and would recommend this place to travellers on a budget looking for central access to shops and public transport.

We stayed with 4 family members and 1 dog. Anyway, the location was great and I took a walk in Kiyomizu-dera and Gion with a dog. The room was small for 4 adults to stay, but it was clean and easy to spend.

The room is very spacious and the decoration style is exactly what I want to live in. It is very Japanese and the look of a traditional Japanese house. I like it very much. My wife and I slept on a bed, but there were also tatami mats in the room. At first we slept on tatami mats, but after all, we were a bit uncomfortable and ran to bed again. And the daily necessities provided in the room are really complete, almost no need to bring anything by yourself, it is very convenient to live in. Check in is very good. Recommend this place.
