"I have had a love affair with Rawdons since it opened in 1956. Through many changes it is still my go-to place whenever means and circumstances permit. This time my husband and I celebrated a birthday and a wedding anniversary and stayed for 3 nights. Our room was simply gorgeous, looking out onto the velour lawn and the lake in front, rose bushes to the left and fuschias to the right. We didn't want to get up off the padded seat in the bay window. My husband would have liked to take the shower back home! The staff were unobtrusive, dignified, competent and obliging. The grounds are in immaculate condition and an unending joy in every direction. We loved the 'private' pool area. Breakfast was indeed the proverbial fit for a king. I got the impression that the maintenance of the outdoors is of more concern than that of the rooms. Our beautiful room had three stains on the carpet, two missing screws to secure the opening windows, damage to a support strut under the table (a piece missing) and a big hole in one of the magnificent curtains. None of which detracted from our enjoyment of our stay. I was quite reluctant to leave and could have happily stayed for the next three nights."

"Had an awful experience here. Aircons not functioning in the first cottage we booked, moved us to another one and had the same issue. Furthermore, one of the rooms had a bat flying around all night so we couldn’t use that room. The restaurant is an absolute disappointment. Restaurant was very untidy and outdated. Very limited menu with no steak options, no cocktails available, waitress had no knowledge of the menu whatsoever. The food is way over-priced and the quality is nowhere near par. Definitely not “award winning quality” The restaurant had no air conditioning and was infested with bugs. We could not eat at the restaurant because of this and opted for a takeaway. The food was over salted and not edible. Breakfast was abysmal, no alternate milks available after confirming there was and was told 20 mins later. Overall, a horrid experience. The only plus was the manicured gardens but that was it! Honestly feel like I was robbed because we could use the 1 bedroom at all. Between the bat and aircon leaking onto the floor and furthermore it was my wifes 44th birthday today and we were utterly disappointed. "

"VERY over priced. Coffee - only 2 sachets provided. No option of tea. So either have one before bed or the morning!!! The only form of toileties, was a little round soap in a wrapper and an empty plastic bottle with a label stating "shampoo". Not even hand soap at the basin or a hand towel. Single ply toilet paper looked like rats had been at it. Mats in the bathroom had holes, as did the spare double/queen sized blanket for the single bed. No hairdryer. Electric blanket did not work and temp was around 3°. Thank goodness I had taken my hotwater bottle. Had 3 mis-matched cups, glasses, plates etc. Floor rug could do with a wash. Curtains are really thin and don't block out the lights from outside. Only 1 2-pin plug point in the room. There were various notices stuck with prestick on the walls indicating Rules, Tv guide, don't feed dogs, no smoking etc. Why not put all in a little flip file all in one place?? The single bed was comfortable and there was hot water for a shower. Location is good but needs loads of TLC. Don't think I will be going back any time soon."
