"We had a wonderful birthday weekend at Langley Castle. The grounds are stunning, and the location is perfect for exploring the Northumberland countryside and coast. We stayed in the Castle Lodge, which was excellent. Huge thanks to the staff, especially Aidan and Ellie, for being so welcoming and professional. Dinner at the Josephine Restaurant was a highlight—the birthday surprise (chocolate truffles!) for my partner was a very thoughtful touch. After a superb cooked-to-order breakfast and a guided tour the next day, we left feeling very impressed. Highly recommended!"

The Railway Hotel

The Railway Hotel

📍 1 Church St, Haydon Bridge
★★★★ 8.1 (47 reviews)

"Arrived around 5 pm, went up to the bar. The young lady in the bar said we should have had an email and text explaining that cooked food was not available at the moment and we would have to go somewhere else for some food (we received no email or texts). We were then taken to our room and given a key. As we had been driving for over 7 hours, we had planned to eat our main meal when we arrived. As a result we walked over the bridge going over the river and found another pub/hotel who were very helpful and we had homemade steak and kidney pudding which was delicious. Our room had two single beds, a kettle with some tea and coffee. A built in wardrobe and en suite bathroom with a shower, toilet and wash basin. We also had towels, shampoo and shower gel supplied. The shower was ok for a freshen up. The beds were very soft and comfortable. Breakfast was in a small room downstairs which was a help yourself basis and you had a few cereals and bread/toast to choose from. We stayed for two nights, any longer would have been a bit of a push, but we only needed the room to stop over and it's in a nice quiet location. If you plan to get the train to Newcastle or Carlisle the train station is just down the road. There's lots of pretty areas close by. Overall, the service is very basic but it did the job for a short trip. "

"Bed very low and hard bedhead curved so pillows fall down behind. Breakfast advertised 17.50 when went they charged you for individual items which turns out very expensive. Parking only 7 cars free in underground carpark. Bar has awful draught beer if you like beer with lemon flavour your ok. Asked for sofa bed for other guest when arrived not set up or bedding. After paying alot of money for 1 night stay thought ot wd be good. Sorry but i would not book this hotel again"

The Bowes Hotel Hotels in Hexham

The Bowes Hotel

"A simply amazing stay. Firstly Ian and his team helped us remedy an error made by ******* on booking rooms at the Bowes hotel. Really friendly and interpersonal staff along with extensive knowledge of the area and further beyond particularly Hadrian's Wall path along with the Roman Museums and Forts. The food served was amazing aswell, better than some other independent restaurants, also the Thai-cakes are a must try! The room is clean and tidy with a great buffet breakfast to boot, they also make lunch for your journey ahead. If you are staying at Bardon Mill, this is the place to be, just a walk away from the station that connects back to Newcastle. Friendly neighbourhood and locals that shares stories from their journeys and also fellow travellers from around the world mostly doing the Hadrian's Wall walk. I cannot fault this wonderful and cosy hotel and pub that is the Bowes Hotel!"

"We stayed for one night. A cheerful greeting on arrival and we were given information about our stay. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean and it was a good size room. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast had plenty of hot and cold choice and was decent quality. Our only negative was that the toilet space in the bathroom was somewhat snug!!"

Brown Rigg Guest Rooms ★★★
"My boyfriend booked us a very last minute night away because I have not been able to sleep and it was the best decision we could’ve made - brown rigg’s xl double bed is cosy and comfortable, and staying in the middle of a dark park is bliss; with no light pollution and only noise being from nature I had an incredibly restful night. The rooms themselves have very clearly been thoughtfully curated with solid furniture, plenty of outlets, and little luxuries like ringtons tea and Bayliss and Harding soap. The history of the school buildings is included in a little booklet on the wall which I really appreciated reading through (we stayed in the infirmary) it also included an introduction to the family (human and fury) that run brown rigg which added to a homely feel. We didn’t explore very much of the communal spaces - though you can make a brew in your room which is all I’m fussed about - but I think I would like to see what the games room has to offer upon return as well as meet the horses. I can’t wait to come back for a longer stay, perhaps during the acoustic festival in September, and take part more in the offerings at brown rigg and explore the local towns/ countryside. In the meantime for the location, price, and offering I could not recommend a stay here enough."

"Just wanted to say a huge thank you to the Rose and Crown for helping us host mums wake on April 30th we had no idea how many people would be helping us celebrate her life, Sam and the team put on an amazing spread and kept it topped up for the whole afternoon, homemade fruit scones, cheese scones, sandwiches and cakes, tea coffee and of course a large range of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. Beautiful setting and views out the back in the lovely beer garden."

"No arrival details were sent, just a link to the hotels dot com app. Some simple instructions regarding the key safe used would have been appreciated. Luckily the girl in the bar had a scrap of paper with the details. The room was small but comfortable and nicely furnished. There's a kitchen/breakfast room with two chairs at a small bar. There's a fridge, toaster, microwave etc but no sink. Unfortunately, it was difficult to use the room because other guests had left three bikes in there, practically filling all the available space. Assuming the management don't actually condone this practice then it suggests a lack of supervision of the property. During the evening there was a lot of noise from the street outside which I assumed was from customers of the pub."
