Lilly Guest Inn ★★★

📍 No 35, Lily avenue, Temple Rd, Haputale

"Hotel on the outskirts of Haputale. The location isn't really important. They picked us up from the station free of charge. Breakfast was Sri Lankan and continental. We had dinner there one of the two nights we were there. They're currently renovating, and the noise from the construction workers is bothersome. They told us it would be finished in a couple of months. They arranged a tuk-tuk for us to Lipton's Seat and a transfer to Galle. There's no bottled water, refrigerator, or hairdryer in the room. We booked a triple room with a balcony, which was a nice bonus. It's odd that they charged us for tea we ordered in the mid-afternoon. The owner speaks perfect English. Nearby is Mint in the Mist, where you can have lunch or dinner (it has very nice views)."

Clouds Holiday Bungalow, Haputale ★★★

"It is just over a week since my wife and I with 5 friends were privileged to spend an idyllic 3 days and 3 nights in the cool, misty climes of Haputale, literally in the Clouds. Clouds is a comfortable holiday bungalow in a beautiful garden located at the top of a hill.It is surrounded by a tea estate and a vegetable garden, the produce of which is utilized to prepare the sumptuous and nutritious meals by the in-house chef.My wife, was particularly happy that the foods were devoid of all artificial additives, being sourced from the adjoining garden. Both in the morning and in the evening, one can be surrounded, gaze down on and be enveloped in the clouds.Though our time was limited,of the numerous attractions nearby,we were able to visit the world famous 9 Arches Bridge in Ella, the historic monastery at Adisham (famous for its jams and cordials) and the renowned 98 Acres with a background of mini-Adams Peak, all of which are within a half hours drive. Customer service was excellent. The on-site manager Mr.Karunaratne, along with the staff went the extra mile to ensure our comfort. It is advisable to take warm clothing and comfortable sturdy footwear to enjoy traipsing through the surroundings. The seats carved in rock, the verdant greenery, fauna and flora, the peace and tranquility make this resort idyllic for rest and relaxation. The cleanliness was impeccable. The meals were tasty and nutritious. 'Clouds' is truly a little piece of heaven."

"Don't go there!! Really bad place and bad people. I'm traveling 2 months in Sri Lanka and this guy is sooo bad. He had confirmed my reservation and when I arrived, he had given the room to his friend. He doesn't care about anything and has no respect for his customers. He confirms your reservation but doesn't give you a room. Really bad people, bad energy, he laughs and makes fun of you. And the hotel is absolutely not like the photos. It's very dirty. DON'T GO THERE, DON'T GIVE YOUR MONEY AT THIS BAD MEN"

"Disspointed with the stay. Owners are not welcoming neither friendly. Room is average for me to select poor is only one reason. There is not a single water bottle in the room and when asked about it thatvwe don't provide if you want it's on chargeable basis. Guest rooms are in the same level of a restaurant which is always occupied by family members chit chatting. No sound proff or you feel like that you're in a house arrest. Room is decent but hardly any amenities, no kettle, no tea coffee amenities. The mini fridge was very dirty when i pointed out also they didn't bother about the feedback. Bedsheet was torn. Will not recommend."

"I agree with pretty much all the reviews here, but feel like some of the negatives are due to unrealistic expectations of small town rural SL. Overall my experience was excellent despite terrible weather - rainy and foggy. I came to stay 2 days but ended staying 3 as I knew weather would only be the same in Ella (my next stop). Rooms are a good size with very comfortable beds with clean linen and warm blankets (necessary when I was here). Lishan (the real owner, not Ali who found me at the station and claimed it was part of his family business) provided regular pots of tea while I chilled in the breakfast room and sitting room, read, and waited for the rain to stop and fog to clear. Views were excellent during clear moments. The bar next door (once part of the hotel) is a total trip "Wild East" saloon. Lots of things a bit grubby, slow, etc but par for the course. Memorable. Definitely worth a go."
