"The hotel, though very mini, had all the necessary services and facilities. The local uncle was still waiting for us when we arrived late at night, and we were immediately greeted with welcome drinks and towels. We could choose between Western or Sri Lankan breakfast. In the morning, opening the door revealed a rice paddy field, and breakfast felt quite ceremonial. Honestly, the food was quite palatable, which was a pleasant surprise during our stay. Oh, by the way, there were no bath towels, so you need to bring your own."

"I write this review as a warning to fellow travellers, we chose this hotel on the back of their amazing website which is wholly unrepresentative of the reality of a stay here. Upon checking in we immediately noticed the run down state of the place but as they had suffered in the recent floods initially chose to overlook this. We wanted 2 days of luxury to conclude our 20 day tour of this fantastic country and asked about the many experiences available on the website from indigenous healing treatments and therapy to craftsmanship like pottery, weaving, blacksmiths etc, none of which are available due to the floods, but still on the website! Ok simplistic things then, the nature walk, would we need suitable footwear etc? How many km long is it? Oh it’s just 300m… it is further to the toilet from the restaurant! Ok bull cart ride? Sorry no longer in operation due to the flood. Birdwatching then, where do we get the binoculars from? Sorry we don’t have them due to the flood! Ok we will go cycling? Yes sir you can do that it’s ok but we only have one bike, due to the flood! The owners of this hotel should stop embarrassing themselves and their young staff with this pathetic reliance on the floods as an excuse for providing nothing of which they advertise, I’m not unsympathetic to the flooding issue but the cost of a bicycle and binoculars is surely one they can afford or is that a final indication of throwing the towel in and closing down permanently?Anyway fine dining awaits as the website offers an extensive menu of tasty food, we were presented with one menu and asked if we could have one each to peruse, no sir we only have one for everyone to share, you guessed it, due to the floods! A basic little menu with a vastly reduced offering far from what the website promises, at this point a more senior person arrived to explain why all this was missing, all down to the floods, we were I should point out the hotels only guests that night. I informed her that I’m my country (England) that it is illegal to take payment for advertised goods and services and then not to provide them and asked if she thought it was fair to mislead guest in this way, we gave you a discount sir $180 instead of $300. This is true but it was never mentioned that this was because of a vastly reduced offering, more a case of doing us a favour, I informed her we would be checking out after breakfast cutting our stay short. At breakfast another senior member of the team attempted to get us to stay saying she could organise another bike (on the day we were due to leave) not this day and also now a bull cart ride, clearly been talking to ‘management’ who were frequently mentioned but never showed face, leaving the very young team to deal with the many many problems this establishment has. We left. Do yourself a favour and check was is on offer before you book here, you have been warned."

📍 Minuwangoda Road, Kotugoda, Gampaha

"We’ve had mixed experiences of hotels in Sri Lanka and it was nice to make an unplanned return to Wallawwa at the end of our holiday. The hotel is great but the staff is excellent. Well trained, friendly and welcoming. They did the little things - the extra touches that make a big difference - and it makes such a difference. The food is as good as we had on the island and the afternoon tea and happy hour are real treats. This is one of the few five star hotels, in Sri Lanka, that matches its status with its delivery. Very good indeed."

"This place was great, we booked for a couple of nights as our first 2 days in Sri Lanka, the housemaster Kumar was so attentive and was always busy doing something. The pool and relaxation areas were clean, highly recommended for any relaxing."

"Not far from the airport, yet tucked away in a spot even taxi drivers haven't discovered, this place feels like a hidden gem, evoking the elegance of a Bawa estate. It was an excellent stay, clearly a tastefully decorated miniature estate meticulously put together by a discerning owner. There are only two rooms in total, but every corner is thoughtfully arranged. The butler was also very nice, serving a delicious and filling dinner course after course. They even set off fireworks in the evening, which makes sense given the nearby firework wholesale. The only issue was the loud airplane noise; otherwise, everything was fantastic!"

Airport Serenity Villa ★★★
"My partner and I stayed here for 1 night before my flight, it was a really beautiful location, really peaceful, you didn't need to worry about parties or loud noise happening next door. Great vibes. Gorgeous property to relax. 🕊 A/C and hot water are perfect. 😍 Beds and pillows are super comfy. Fresh towels provided. 🙏🏼 Airport is 18mins away. 3kms for ATM. The only problems we had were MOSQUITOES ahhh soooo many of them, and there is no fan to help keep them away... ! Really hard to sleep especially with all the hospitalisations and deaths happening right now in Colombo from them 😭 And also the kitchen was unusable. Very dirty cupboards. The whole house was very dusty but I think that is due to the people who stayed before. Also we organised an early check-in for 12pm so that didn't give them much time to make it fresh.. (sorry!) The host was really kind and understanding when we had a problem with the booking, as there was only 1 option when I booked the place and so I was very confused when he told me it wasn't booked correctly ... thankfully I confirmed it beforehand so he was understanding about that 🥹 I would totally stay here again! I'll just make sure I have a mosquito net next time 😂"

"We only stayed one night on the last day of our trip and wish we’d been able to stay longer! Gorgeous colonial building, lush gardens, kind and attentive staff, excellent dinner and breakfast. We picked it because it was a short drive from the airport and only wish we could have stayed an extra night or two."
