I usually don’t write hotel reviews unless the experience is either exceptionally good or really bad. Unfortunately, this review is for the latter. We booked this hotel via Trip.com, and while it had some positives, one major issue completely ruined our stay: the overwhelming sewage smell. Pros: • Great Location: The hotel is conveniently located near all major tourist attractions. • Family-Friendly Rooms: One of the few hotels in Florence within our budget that allowed four people in a single room. • Decent Breakfast: The breakfast buffet at the nearby café was reasonable. Cons: 1. The Overpowering Sewage Smell (Biggest Issue!) The moment we opened the door, we were hit by an unbearable sewage odor from the bathroom and bedroom. My wife and kids literally ran out of the room because the smell was so strong. Worse, there was no one at the reception, so we had no way to request a different room. We were completely stuck. We had to keep the windows open and the air conditioning running for two hours just to make the room tolerable. But by the next evening, the smell was back—stronger than ever. We have stayed in budget hotels and Airbnbs before, and even the most basic Airbnb hosts ensure their property doesn’t smell like a sewage leak. This is simply unacceptable for any hotel. 2. Poor Check-in Experience (Worse Than Airbnb) We specifically booked this hotel because they stated reception would be available until 7 PM. We planned accordingly and arrived at 6 PM. However, when we got there, no one answered the doorbell. We were locked out. A shop owner next door had to let us into the building, where we found an envelope with our key and breakfast vouchers—no prior notice, no instructions. I only found out the next day that the hotel had sent a message via ******* at 4:25 PM—less than two hours before we arrived, when we were already on a train. Every Airbnb I’ve ever booked sends detailed check-in instructions at least a week in advance. This hotel failed to communicate properly and left us stranded. 3. No Privacy (No “Do Not Disturb” Option) The hotel does not provide a “Do Not Disturb” sign. Since we usually decline housekeeping, we assumed, like many Airbnb stays, that the room wouldn’t be cleaned during our stay. However, when we returned the next day, our room had been cleaned and our belongings had been moved around. Guests should have the option to opt out of room cleaning. 4. Broken Elevator on Check-Out Day On our last day, the only elevator in the building stopped working. We later learned that some guests had actually gotten stuck in it earlier that morning. Since we were on the third floor, I had to carry our heavy luggage down steep stairs. Overall: The sewage smell alone makes this hotel impossible to recommend. It was so strong that it ruined our entire stay. Add to that the poor check-in process, lack of privacy, and broken elevator, and our experience was simply terrible. We have stayed in many Airbnbs, and even the most budget-friendly ones provide better communication, check-in experiences, and basic cleanliness than this hotel. Until these major issues are resolved, I strongly advise against staying here.

It's in a great location, 7 minutes from the station and 10 minutes from the Ufutzii Museum, but it was hard to find because there was no hotel sign! I was standing 10 meters away, but I couldn't find it even after walking back and forth, so I asked a nearby hotel staff member, who pointed to a small door and said, "It's right there." I pressed the intercom, had it opened, went up to the third floor, and finally checked in. The room was cute, and when I told them I was leaving early in the morning, they were flexible and said, "I can make breakfast at the breakfast shop and have it delivered the day before." There was a shower, a refrigerator, and bottled water for the bed. If you leave the room and go up one level, there is a shared terrace with a view of the roofs of the ancient city. If the check-in goes smoothly, it's a great place to stay.

We had a great stay here. The location was perfect for the train station and the center. All very close by. The staff was friendly and very helpful. We loved the breakfast at the restaurant next door. We were even prepared a breakfast to go for an early morning on a train. The room was also clean and comfortable.

Very clean, owner is extremely friendly. An extremely convenient location. Rarely saw other guests. The rooftop is a very very nice touch and great view. Air conditioned and perfect amount of space for 2 people. Zero issues! Many stairs but typical in italy!

We recently visited Florence and unfortunately stayed at this establishment. Our room had a vile smell of sewage the entire four nights we stayed. We would come back to our room and the the odor was so bad it made all of us nauseous. We made them aware of the situation after the first night and asked to be compensated for the major discomfort. They did not offer to change the room it is likely the hotel was full. We are certain the management rented us the room, fully knowing the problem. My teenage children did not want to stay in the room and complained the entire four days. We all dreaded going back to the room fearful of the wall of offense odor as soon as we would open the door. There is a recent review of the same hotel about a month ago from a traveller, Andrea Capaciolli on Feb. 2025 (Google Review) who stayed in the same room called the Massacio and had the same major sewage issue and they did nothing for him either. We came home to Vancouver and our luggage and clothes still wreaked of sewage...Shame on this establishment for renting this room. It is an unacceptable business practice. We were able to go into the room next to us and it did not have the same issue so it is is specific to the room. Also the morning we were leaving we saw a plumbing truck parked right out front of the hotel...We were advised by Andrea (the caretaker) that the owner would call us after the trip. Crickets... Don't let the rating fool you or you may be stuck with a horrible smelling room and a hotel that does not care. (This review was approved and posted on ******* where we booked the holiday)
