The Palms at Coco Beach
"Awesome pool, good common areas but terrible room. Room was too small, beds were extremely uncomfortable, sheets were dirty and the walls were extremely thin with no sound insulation."

Pura Vista Hotel
Coco Sunset Hills 52
Hotel Claudio & Gloria Beach Front
"We drove to El Coco beach on a whim and wanting to find somewhere to stay on the beach. Walked up to the bar and the young lady working there was able to accommodate us on the spot in one of the rooms. The room was super basic but economical and we had the sound of the ocean to lull us to sleep. That's where the good ends. That evening, a rainstorm blown up by a tropical rainstorm in the Gulf dumped rain all night in that area of Costa Rica. We wake up at 2 am and step off the bed into 4 inches of water, our sneakers floating by and a backed up sewer system in the shower. Fortunately, the shower "tray" kept the black water contained in the shower and not contaminated all of our stuff. We move our bags onto chairs and tables and my laptop bag (fortunately no damage except for a few wet documents) and try our best to sleep hoping the water recedes in time for morning. There is literally a river of water out of our front door. So, tropical rainstorms happen... I grew up in the Caribbean so I get it. The hotel also lacks any sort of water mitigation from the parking lot that lies uphill or from all the water running off the roof straight down in front of the doors (no gutters or downspouts to divert it away from the front). But what followed probably ranks as the worst service I have ever seen traveling the world. We wake and the water has receded some so we ask for a mop so we can have a dry floor - no one or mop shows up. We try to dry our stuff, place wet stuff in bags and decide to go eat our included breakfast to make the best of this and realize the guy sitting two tables from us is actually the owner. We never saw him nor any employee throughout the "flood" to apologize or even provide some type of something...?. I think what really bothered me and the reason for this review was basically seeing the owner casually enjoying his breakfast and on his phone the entire time we were in the restaurant with most of our stuff now wet and EVERY single room flooded from the previous evening. I mean, isn't that the kind of all-hands-on-deck crisis that should have everyone helping and dealing with the mess and customers - including the owner? If not, I can't imagine what would be. Anyway, the staff in the restaurant were attentive and the food was pretty good. It's a shame because we were in Costa Rica for ten days and this was our last night. Everywhere we went the people, service and attention were spectacular."

Café de Playa Beach Front Hotel
"The restaurant is truly fantastic in my opinion although very expensive! The “ hotel “ is more of a motel ( think 1960’s genre ) Great staff in the restaurant! I personally would not stay here but loved the restaurant location and vibe"
Bahia Pez Vela Resort
"Bahia Pez Vela ("Sailfish Bay") is a beautiful gated resort on the beach in the Guanacaste area of Costa Rica. We stayed in one of the 3 bedroom condos, it had a covered deck and a small pool. The condo was very well stocked with everything we needed for cooking meals. There is a nice restaurant and swimming pool on the grounds. We enjoyed walking on the black sand beach and exploring the tide pools in the lava rocks at low tide. At night we went to the beach to watch the Hermit crabs and the Halloween crabs. There are areas for snorkeling on both ends of the beach, gear can be rented at the office. We saw lots of reef fish, a stingray, sea urchins, some coral, and a pretty sea ****. Kayaks and paddleboards are available for rent also."
Hotel Flor de Itabo
"I honestly can't think of anything good to say. Even at check-in, I had to prove I had a reservation. What's the point of that if the hotel doesn't seem to have any record of it? Secondly, the woman at reception had sat down on a sofa in front of the desk. We didn't realize she was staff and seriously stood there for three minutes waiting for someone to come. We even pressed the buzzer. Don't think for a second that she did anything. She just said something to us in Spanish, but since we didn't have a translator, I simply said I needed Wi-Fi. Only after a few more minutes did she thankfully get someone who also only spoke Spanish. He was smart enough to give us Wi-Fi and get his translator out. But having to prove I had a reservation? That's never happened to me before, and it was truly embarrassing. The pool, bar, and restaurant have been closed for years, which should be a warning, but they're still advertised. And there's no room cleaning service. Behind the bar, there's usually a dog on a leash that barks loudly at anyone who tries to pass by… but don't worry, it's not the only dog there. They have at least three on the property. The room had mold, and the bathroom was the worst I've ever stayed in. I really can't recommend it to anyone. Spend more money and get a different hotel, no joke! The best thing was the iguana I saw… and the working air conditioning… but that's about it."
