Hotel Khimtsang mixes traditional and modern designs in a minimalist style. The room has floor heatings, bed is firm and comfortable with warm fluffy duvets, shower is hot and strong with heating lights for the cold weather. But what truly makes this hotel special is the people. The hotel owners and staff all go out of their way to make guests feel comfortable. They have been extremely hospitable and kind to me as a solo traveller. I felt very welcomed at Hotel Khimstang as they took extra care to ensure I was well adjusted. This will definitely be my hotel of choice if I came back to Shangri-La again.

We arrived in Shangri-la late at night. The owner of the hotel told us to go to a certain location so they could go pick us up, we were not charged for this service. They were very kind to us, especially to me since I had a hard time adjusting to the altitude and they told us what to do to alleviate my altitude sickness issues. The rooms are very spacious, nicely decorated and clean. The atmosphere of the place gives you a feeling you’re immersed in the local culture. The view from the top rooms are breathtaking, you can have an overview of the town and the main temple. Just beware that in order to have this view, you need to climb a lot of stairs, and at this altitude, climbing stairs can be a daunting challenge, but totally worthwhile. I highly recommend this place.

The hotel is located at the north gate of the ancient city, and it is very convenient to take a taxi when you go out. It's clean and tidy inside. It's very comfortable to stay. There is a lady at the front desk named Li Baoju who provides very attentive service. I will come here again next time I come to Shangri-La.

It's winter, so I would sit here to keep warm when it gets dark, drink tea, and roast oranges. The room is big enough, has a bathtub, comb and conditioner, is full of light, and has a great view outside the window. The boss smiled warmly, helped us with our luggage, and made brown sugar and ginger tea for us to drink in the evening. It is close to the north gate and east gate of the ancient city, and the transportation is convenient. You can walk to the bus station in five to ten minutes, and you can go directly to Songzanlin Temple for 2 yuan, or you can go to the court at the east gate and take a bus for 15 yuan directly to Pudacuo. Next to it is Guishan Park and the largest prayer wheel, which is crowded with people during the peak tourist season.

I have an amazing time even with all communication with the hotel had to be done via WeChat for translation. I suspect the hotel and the surrounding were not damaged by the fire as it remains in ******* style. There were many places to take photo in the surrounding area. The place is well equipped and well maintained. The staffs were nice people and ready to serve. They even arranged pick up on the day I arrive at the old town entrance and airport transfer for me on the my departure.
