"Thursday lunchtime roast special and dessert only £12.00 yes £12.00 Apart from it being such fantastic value we had a choice of lamb or beef , absolutely beautifully cooked with massive amounts of four vegetables , roast potatoes and a Yorkshire pudding and extra gravy. Beautiful homemade chocolate and orange cheesecake. Lovely attentive staff. Thank you Haymaker for making a bleak January day so enjoyable.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️"

Bath House Hotel & Restaurant

"Stayed overnight after a family event and couldn't have been happier with my experience. Very accommodating to my request to check-in early to change after a long drive. Delicious set menu supper. It was a Tues in early Feb, but there were plenty of locals in the restaurant and many obviously regulars. Comfortable room and en suite, spotlessly clean and comfortable with A/C. Fresh and tasty breakfast. Great value. It is a restaurant with rooms in the centre of a bustling but small market town. Some reviewers obviously hadn't done their research if they were expecting anything different. Parking was a bit tricky, but the Sainsburys next door has a big car park with cheap tariff (cash or App payments only). I'd happily recommend and would stay again. "

Watermead House

Watermead House

📍 83 High St, Chard

"This place is simply PERFECT…. All the great reviews it’s gets are thoroughly well deserved. I booked a standard room which is on the 2nd floor but it was very spacious as they had really given some clever thought and planning to the layout. The breakfast is as fresh and scrumptious as you could ever want for and was served right on the time I had pre-booked it for (which you do on the handy QR code). If staying within a 20 mile radius of Chard I would always book this place again."

The Golden Fleece

The Golden Fleece

📍 Perry St, Chard

"We only stayed for one night but everything went smoothly. We stayed in room 5 which had a massive bathroom with a corner bath and shower over. The bedroom was large too with a large bed, table and chairs. Tea and coffee making facilities and a small fridge. Continental breakfast was already in the room ready for the next morning."

The Haymaker Inn ★★★
"Friendly enough in arrival, proper spit n sawdust pub, shown to room but hallway was grubby and stinks of cigarettes. Room itself was fine and comfortable. Food and drink in the bar very reasonable. Breakfast good and overall experience was good value for money, very cheap."

"We were doing a family genealogy trip to Somerset County and ending up staying in Chard as it is in Somerset yet borders both Devon and Dorset counties giving us a base that would allow us to explore a variety of directions. We were driving a rental car and a priority was to have parking available with lodging which can be difficult to find. We lucked out when we chose the Bath House Hotel. It surpassed our expectations. Husband and wife, hosts Ron and Karine aided by their right hand woman, Shin, went out of their way to make our visit special. The motto above the hotel/restaurant entrance says Dine, Stay, Meet, Experience. And that is what we did. Ron is a master chef and his progressive menu included British classics with Asian and European touches. He has won several culinary awards. The quality and presentation of the food equaled that of more pricey London restaurants and is definitely worthy of a visit by choosey foodies. Our excellent breakfasts were free of charge. We also chose to pay for some evening meals which did not disappoint. Karine is a very gracious hostess. We enjoyed the opportunity to sit and take evening tea with her and others in the family. There was no pressure just an offer of friendship which we accepted. She also makes a very tasty chocolate candy dessert that goes very well with the English tea. Shin took care of so many details of our stay. She gave us information that we didn’t know we needed and made sure our rooms were fully stocked. The rooms themselves were immaculately cleaned. Each room is uniquely decorated. We stayed in the Willow Room. Older English buildings rarely have large bedrooms but ours was perfectly acceptable for two people. We prefer the charm and quaintness to the modern sterile huge look alike hotel rooms. Our hosts insisted on carrying our bags both up and down the steps on arrival and departure which we appreciated as we are senior citizens. There are steps up to the rooms and I am a bit handicapped in walking but I managed the stairs without problem. The hotel is in close driving distance to a number of local attractions. We particularly enjoyed a visit to Forde Abbey, a beautifully restored historic house and gardens. The Abbey was a less than a fifteen minute drive. The bedrooms are distant enough from the kitchens that there is no trace of cooking smells. The air conditioning and wi-fi worked perfectly, not alway the case in older buildings. We found the lodging cost to be extremely reasonable, much cheaper than if we had stayed at a lodging in the crowded, noisy tourist areas along the seashore. We were sorry to leave and would love to return some day."

"This is the best guest house in the area: good value, an eco-friendly guest house of 6 rooms. There is a small lounge downstairs with books where you can read and relax. I have been staying there every month for 14 months now. James and Katherine are super- friendly hosts. The beds are comfortable. The breakfast is very good quality. Also it is a reasonable price.i highly recommend it."
