"One stop on the trip for breakfast was enough. The food was very scarce, the quality was correct, the price was exorbitant, very exorbitant if we take into account what they served us. The next stop will be somewhere else."

Parador de Villafranca Del Bierzo

"We were hiking the Camino de Santiago and wanted somewhere nice to stay in Villafranca del Bierzo, so we opted for the Parador hotel as it looked like the best option. Unfortunately this Parador was very dated and soul-less. The breakfast quality was good although the dining room was just a room with no atmosphere. The room & bathroom was clean & comfortable but nothing to shout about here. The photo of the pool on the website looks amazing but when we actually went for a swim, we were shocked at how small it was. It is so small it can only really hold 2 people max. The sauna was turned off and the showers by the pool area were not working. All in all a very disappointing experience and certainly not worth the Euros 172 that we paid for a double room with breakfast.....having said that, it probably is still the best place to stay in Villafranca del Bierzo if you don't want to stay in a hostel!"

"This was a stop on our Camino journey. The location was great - right on the square. The room comfortable and fairly large with a BATHTUB! Great to soak after many walking days. Breakfast was plentiful and good."

AC Hotel Ponferrada

"Hotel location is very good, the window looks out just a road turntable sculpture and the park opposite. 15 minutes walk to the castle, surrounded by dining, supermarkets, convenient life. The room was spacious and there was a large balcony that didn't have time to sit down and enjoy the street view. The room service is not as professional and serious as the domestic one. The coffee machine on the window sill is estimated to have not seen it. I forgot to add coffee ingredients and free water. The breakfast is rich, the meat, custard, fruit yogurt are complete. The front desk staff was very enthusiastic, the driver who helped was very professional, and the car condition was very good. The castle of Ponferrada is well worth visiting!"

"Modern hotel with garage and fitness area. Right in the center. Small but clean rooms. Knowledgeable and helpful staff. Large restaurant and breakfast room. Prices reasonable for the location. My single was really small and overlooked the courtyard."

Hotel El Castillo

"Hotel El Castillo enjoys a very nice location in Ponferrada, very close to the famous Templars Castle. The room was quite dated but fairly spacious and with a comfortable bed. The bathroom was again quite big and fairly well equipped. The service at check in was kind even though a bit slow. Unfortunately, what lowers materially the rating of the hotel is the breakfast: it is what is offered in a low-level hostal, not in an establishment that sells itself as a 3-star hotel. Recommended for the room and location but not for any kind of food."
