"Recently my family went out for a stay at Thaala Resort. We really enjoyed throughout the stay. And a huge thanks for the restaurant staff. They were really amazing and their hospitality is on another level. The food was real great and the spread is very good. Highly recommend."

"Very satisfied, very amazing! The hotel was originally built in 1967 and designed by Asia's most outstanding architect, Geoffrey Bawa. The hotel reopened in December 2019, trying to preserve the original appearance of Bawa's buildings, recreating the famous batik ceiling entrance, and the brass peacock sculpture created by Laki once again stands on the stair railings of the restaurant. The 30 rooms in the main building have been converted into 16 suites, L-shaped, overlooking the Indian Ocean to the west and the Bentota River to the north. If you are an architect, it is recommended to stay in a suite, because the other two guest rooms are newly built later. We talked to Bawa at the front desk, and the hotel employee Sanduri gave a forty-minute tour, telling us every detail, trying to number each brick and then rebuild it as it was. In short, everything was very touching."

"My husband and I spent 2 weeks at the hotel in November. The hotel is small, cozy and quiet. Not new, but in good condition. The nearest town is 5-7 minutes by tuktuk, which can be rented right at the hotel. Common area and swimming pool with 4* Wunderbar. To the sea and a gorgeous beach 2 minutes via the railway. It doesn't interfere with rest at all. The beach is clean, sun loungers are under awnings, but workers can place sun loungers with umbrellas in any place convenient for you. Food and drinks are brought to the beach from the Wunderbar hotel restaurant. In addition, when we were finishing the construction of a beach bar, it should already be working. We lived in a room on the 2nd floor with a balcony. The room is spacious, has everything you need: air conditioning, refrigerator, tea set, TV, ceiling fan, hairdryer. They clean very cleanly. Beach towels are provided and changed regularly. The staff is very friendly, polite and responsive. Thanks to the hotel owner and his staff for a wonderful stay."

"I had a wonderful stay at Celestia Ayurveda Resort, and it was a very peaceful and relaxing experience. The resort is located in a calm natural environment, making it a perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. The rooms are clean and comfortable, providing a pleasant stay. The Ayurvedic treatments are excellent, and the staff are knowledgeable and caring. The therapists and doctors take good care of guests and make sure each person receives proper attention. The hospitality was very good, and the staff were friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help. A special mention goes to Mr. Chandana, Resort Manager Mr. Shimashi, and the entire team, who were incredibly friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. Their warm hospitality and attentive service truly enhanced the overall experience and made us feel right at home. The food was also very nice, with healthy and tasty meals prepared to support wellness. Overall, this resort offers a great experience for anyone looking to relax and enjoy authentic Ayurveda in a quiet and peaceful place."

"We stayed at NH Ceysand last month and had a fantastic stay at the hotel. This was my fifth time and we always love to stay at this unbeatable location, one side just steps away from the Indian ocean and the other side nice Benthara river with stunning ocean views right from the room. The rooms were absolutely clean, spacious, and well maintained, with comfortable beds and modern amenities. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help, which made the stay even more enjoyable. I would especially like to thank Mr Chanaka- House keeping Manager for his great service and kudos to each staff member. We especially loved hotel facilities, including the pool and restaurant which offered a delicious buffet and a relaxing atmosphere. It’s the perfect place for anyone looking to unwind and enjoy a peaceful beach getaway on the west coast of Sri Lanka. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to others looking for a memorable beach vacation."

A special thanks to the food and beverage team Chandima, Gardinal, Niluksha, Manuke and Vishwa. The food, tje cocktails, the atmosphere, and the overall charm of the villa made it the perfect place to celebrate. Highly recommend!"

"Stayed for 3 nights in a deluxe room. Were first shown a room which was so small & dark it had no room for our 2 large suitcases. We asked if we could change rooms & they showed us a larger deluxe room over the restaurant but with no outside space so declined this room & eventually were moved to room 1 which was larger & brighter & looked like it had been more recently renovated than the two other rooms. It is worth noting the deluxe rooms are advertised as being larger than the standard room but in some of the rooms most of the extra space is on a mezzanine level up some steep stairs which has another bed. It was too steep for us to use for our cases & definitely could not be used for young children or elderly . We are in our early sixties & able bodied & found it quite inaccessible & quite frankly dangerous . The gardens & pool area are the highlight of this hotel & are beautiful . The man who looked after the pool & sun-beds was a delight & made sure you had your sun-bed wherever you wanted it & even placed frangipane flowers on your sun-bed! The pool is in excellent condition & very well kept. However, most of the hotel does need updating to bring it up to its former glory. The bar area was particularly uninviting with its dark decor & no proper bar as such . The dining room had no ambiance but food & drinks were good & reasonably priced. During our 3 weeks in Sri Lanka, this was the only hotel which had drinking water in plastic bottles & shampoo etc was also in small non reusable plastic bottles. The management do need to review their environmental policy. The hotel still has a lovely relaxed feel about it & the staff were lovely & helpful. As our flight left late at night, they allowed us to stay in our room for longer at no extra cost on our last day which we were very grateful . Our rooms was kept spotlessly clean. Not sure I would stay again as the trains at the bottom of the garden do operate until about midnight & start again at 4am & did wake me . The trains are approx hourly & were a novelty at first but when it affected my sleep every night I wasn’t so keen. It is worth noting that all hotels nearby along the same beach back on to this railway line so this is not exclusive to Club Villa."

Prince Beach Hotel Bentota ★★★
"We stayed at this hotel as a couple in January-February. We chose a hotel that offered a more or less decent price/quality ratio. In my opinion, it was quite good. The hotel itself is small. The grounds, restaurant, and beach are shared between two hotels: Prince Villa 3* and WUNDERBAR 4*. The hotel is located between two roads – a highway and a railway: cars and trains pass regularly, and you can hear them very well. In this regard, the hotel is not suitable if you want peace and quiet. Bentota is about three kilometers away. Nearby, if you go left from the hotel, there are several stalls where you can buy fruit and water. The hotel grounds are small, green, and well-kept. The pool is right in front of the hotel building. I saw that they were cleaning it, and there are toys for children. But we didn’t swim there – there is the ocean, after all. We had a room with a balcony on the second floor. Large and spacious. Cleaning is upon request: you need to leave the key at the reception and ask for the room to be cleaned. If you don’t do this, the room will not be cleaned. There's only ONE room key! The owner gives you their number upon check-in, and you can use Wi-Fi to resolve any issues. There's Wi-Fi, but it's sometimes incredibly slow. We bought 50GB SIM cards from Dialog at the airport and had no connection issues. The room was infested with tiny ants—you can't leave any food behind; they'd swarm you instantly. We kept our food in the refrigerator, but since we took the key when we left, there was no power and the refrigerator had to defrost, leaving the food in water. There's a kettle, tea, coffee, sugar, and mugs. Two bottles of water per person per day. Towels: two bath towels, two foot towels, and two beach towels. They're changed upon request. There's a TV, but we didn't even turn it on—we didn't need it. The air conditioning works fine, but it just blows directly onto the bed. We slept with the ceiling fan on at night. Without it, it's really hot. Outlets: two adapters—that was enough for us. There's a safe - everything was in place: money, documents, jewelry. The clothes dryer is on the balcony. We didn't store things in the closet because of the hordes of ants. Our plumbing was fine, no complaints. There were two tiny bottles of shower gel and shampoo in the shower. We brought our own. There is a hairdryer - an old, small one. I always take my own. There were no mosquitoes in the room - we didn't need mosquito repellent, but there are mosquitoes outside. Mosquito cream wouldn't hurt. In general, the weather at that time was hot and humid, like in a sauna all the time. We arrived in a gray haze, when there was no difference between the sky and the ocean - solid gray haze and rain for two days. By February, the weather improved: it was sunny, hot, with rain at night. As for food, we took breakfast. I realized I needed half board: we spent quite a bit on food, since there's not much to eat nearby, just three similar hotels, and prices are like Moscow's. Plus, you pay another 10% tax. But that applies not only to cafes and restaurants, but also to state-run stores. You can't visit Bentota every day. Regarding breakfasts: they're the same every day: an omelet, two slices of toast, two hot sausages, a slice of processed cheese, jam, butter, a plate of sliced fruit (2-3 pieces each), a glass of juice, and tea or coffee."

"I had an amazing experience. Lovely place, greenery all around and a big enough pool. Had an experience of Ayurveda massage as well by the recommendation of the in-house doctors. Great rooms, spacious and roomy, sumptuous meals round the clock. Special thanks to Ms.Navodya, Ms.Veronica, Mr.Rishan Fernando, Chef Shiran and Mr.Kasun for giving a top notch service. The resort is located very close to the Kasgoda turtle beach and considering the luxury they were offering, it was worth a penny as it was a total value for money. A neat and clean property. A must visit I’d say for whoever stays here. For sure he/she is set to come back for more as you just can’t get enough in a single time stay. #YouWillComeBackForMore"

The Villa Bentota by KK Collection ★★★★
"It's a lovely hotel with friendly, helpful staff and good food. Went there for my son's wedding. Rooms are a bit 'dated' in some respects and in need of updating, but on the other hand that's perhaps part of the character. Experience was a bit soured when they charged one of our party an exorbitant amount for a broken glass and also for 'stained sheets' (fake tan) - without even having tried to launder them (stains come out quite easily apparently). In light of how much we'd all spent at the hotel I found this annoyingly petty, not helped by the explanation offered - 'it's company policy - no local discretion' - for me, you can't operate a hospitality business that way."

"This has perhaps got to be one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in since I started staying in hotels over 40 years ago! Check-in; After being told “we will try” for an early check in, then being told “1pm”, then finally “2pm” my two young kids and I were kept waiting at the reception after travelling all night on a flight and getting no sleep. The staff were ultra rude and kept throwing the rule book at us. When we asked to speak with the GM Sanoj, he stopped short of abusing me and was again rude and dismissive. They took 1.5 hours to clean the room despite Sanoj’s claim of 30-40 mins. Zero empathy and they kept rudely saying “wait till 2”. Noisy railway line; A railway line passes barely 50 metres away from the room. All night train sounds and unbearable vibrations ensure that you do not get a good night’s sleep at all. Food prices: Absolutely unreasonable and astronomical, which is almost criminal for a place that has no other options around! Water: We were given 2 0.5 litre bottles of water every day for a family of 3! When we asked for extra water, we were asked to pay! The first in any hotel! Only after fighting did we get our water. When leaving, a staff member actually snatched away a water bottle from us saying that they’re reusable glass bottles and we cannot take them away from the hotel! It probably cost just a few cents, but this is how they behaved with guests! The room: We had a duplex room. The side table in the loft was termite eaten and falling down literally. The cooling did not reach the loft, rendering that space hot and almost unusable. Flooring was worn out as was much of the woodwork. Random electrical switches all over the room made lighting impossible to find! And the room was so dim that we had to use torches to read inside! A dangerous staircase with the banister on the wrong side made for a treacherous journey to the loft. So much for a hotel designed by a supposed architect! Common facilities: Just 1 restaurant, an average pool and no other amenities would put this in the 2* category for me. Yet they behaved like it was a boutique 5* facility! Staff attitude: Rude, ****** and highly obnoxious. They seemed to be ***** who were told to run a facility and treated guests like jail inmates! My first ever experience of Sri Lanka was unfortunately shameful and disgusting and this property needs to be condemned in the strongest possible language. Club Villa is a disgrace to Sri Lankan hospitality and culture and I wish it nothing but the worst. Shame!"
