"We booked Mercure Ayr as a last minute night away and weren’t disappointed,it’s close to train station and bus station is a 2 minute walk,the reception staff were lovely and pleasant,we had a lovely view of the sea and fairground from our room which was clean and comfortable ,we would definitely choose this hotel again"

Western House Hotel

"Rooms were clean and adequate. Staff attentive and friendly. However, there was a Wedding on the same day and when we arrived for our evening dinner, we didn't get our starters until 8.45pm when our table was booked for 6.30. Although, to be fair to the staff, we were 25minutes late. We had an 20mth old boy with us, who sat very patiently waiting for a pizza. This took 1hr 45mins to be brought out. We were then told that the Chef was having a meltdown in the kitchen.Cant fault the waiting staff, but if you want to starve to death or eat at midnight then this is the place to go."

Burnside Guest House

"When we arrived i discovered that our bathroom wasn't en-suite! "private bathroom" means across the landing which you have a key to. So be careful when booking. The room was clean/ nice decor. We left the "please service our room" on our door handle...but it wasn't done. We got back from a trip late after 10pm and had to use damp cold towels....not great and tea cups still dirty etc. The cooked breakfast was lovely and tasty but there was only cereal 1st .....no pastries/fruit yoghurts etc. Which really is to be expected nowadays."

"Travel Lodge Ayr, like all TLs, is a perfect venue to use as a base, be it for one night or several. The room is functional, very clean, pleasantly decorated and furnished. I find the beds amazingly comfortable. There was plenty of tea and coffee and loo roll and soap. The Receptionist was professional and a delight to deal with -she was the only member of staff I saw. I can't think of a single negative"

The Kylestrome

"This was a business trip and so not having breakfast included was really inconvenient. This was communicated at booking but that the restaurant below did breakfast separately and was a separate business to the hotel. What I didn't know was that the Stravaig restaurant did not start breakfast until 9am, when I would have needed to be at the office so needing to go find somewhere else to have breakfast is something I wish I didn't have to think about and do. I will do a separate review for the Stravaig though as they made it clear repeatedly that it was a separate business. They did however offer 20% discount for guests staying in the hotel so that is something. As for the hotel, best part was the bed. Really lovely and comfortable. Also it's really well located in the area and there's good parking. Unfortunately everything else was just ok. The towel rack fell off the wall as soon as I walked into the bathroom. Didn't even touch it. It was clear it was left teetering on a loose hook. Everything just a teeny bit grubbier than it should be too. Definitely missing a personal touch. Regardless of the windows open or closed, makes no difference, the road noise is very loud. My bedroom was at the front so that definitely made that worse. Bring earplugs just in case. Which you'll need anyway as walls paper thin as I found out hearing my neighbours next door just having a normal conversation. The code access was unique to me so I did feel it was secure and made getting in and out easy enough. Only for the restaurant staff around though, it's quite impersonal otherwise. I have no desire to stay here again. The unmanned hotel experience along with the grubby room, noise issues and no breakfast included just isn't for me for a business trip."

Premier Inn Ayr A77/Racecourse

"Easy check in and parking, room was standard premier inn - clean with everything you need. Couldn’t see the race course! Too hot for me in the night but opened the window, bathroom and shower spacious."
