"⸻ I stayed at this golf and hotel resort shortly after the horrendous storms. Let me start by saying that the standard of food and service is very good, and the staff are extremely pleasant and welcoming. Now for the downside: the damage to the course is significant and will require approximately a month of complete closure to clear the fallen trees. The long grass in the rough makes it almost impossible to find a lost ball — I lost three on one hole alone. The excess water around the sides of the course has also turned some areas into miniature swamps, complete with mosquitoes and other flying insects. That said, the greens were superb. I have never seen the south coast of Portugal looking so green — it was almost magical. However, a considerable amount of work is still needed to restore the course to a standard that would justify it being considered a top course."

"The room was lovely, very clean and comfortable. Unfortunately the safe did not work which we reported. It would have been nice if tea, coffee was available in the room . Breakfast was very mediocre , Plates and cutlery had to be asked for, the warmers that should have kept food warm did not. The lid of one collapsed resulting in crockery being smashed on the floor-apparently for the 3rd time in several days. Not what I would have expected of a 4 star hotel."

"We loved this hotel, spotlessly clean. Beautiful gardens, very well maintained. Staff great, food good, always something to eat. Rooms comfortable and clean. Bar area comfortable with nice seating, the drinks quality was excellent and the red wine was the nicest I have ever had at an all inclusive hotel. Also served decent cocktails at both the pool bar and the hotel bar. We didn't use the pools but the outdoor pool area was tidy and pleasant with lots of sunbeds, the indoor pool looked great, although very hot and humid in there, but not a problem if you are in the pool cooling off. We also used the free shuttle bus into town, which also goes to the beach, great service. All in all we had a lovely break. Thanks to all the excellent staff and facilities."

"We had a week in the Pelican in May. We've stayed before but the hotel gets better each time. We arrived early and managed to get a room on the first floor rather than a ground floor apartment. Jet2 for some reason never seem to get the best rooms but the hotel staff were able to help us. The pool area was quiet and we had no issue getting a sunbed. The bar serves snacks and it's good value. The bar staff were friendly and helpful. Also the bar now stays open late which was a bonus. The kitchen area was well equipped although we didnt have a corkscrew. The bar staff lent us one and the housekeeping staff provided us one the next day. The room was clean and a really good size. The TV has a selection of English speaking channels. The WiFi was OK but not perfect however it was better than previous visits. The Pelican is well situated and only a 5 minute walk from the nearest supermarket and 15 mins to the centre of Alvor. The hotel has a great vibe, the staff are fantastic and we definitely return."

"We stayed for three nights at this excellent suite hotel. Our spacious room was on the ground floor with views towards the ocean. Breakfast was an extensive self service buffet providing something for everyone. We enjoyed sitting outside overlooking the pool watching the beautiful birds overhead. Reception staff in the main were friendly and helpful. Although we were taken aback when we asked a junior member of the reception staff for directions to a well known beach front restaurant to be told, she didn’t live in Alvor, so could not help us. Would we stay at the Pestana South Beach again, yes."

"We stayed in the 2 bed villa. 3 Adults and 2 kids (13&9). The facilities are great and on beach. Plenty of pool space and no having to get up early to get sun beds. The Atlantico pool is unreal and great for older kids as plenty of space to dive in etc. The villas are very basic but cleaned everyday so I couldn’t fault it. Only issue is there is no air con in the 2 bed villas so if you are coming end of July / August it will be hard to sleep I say. Staff very friendly and helpful. Taxi into Alvor is only €5. Lively boardwalk too but quite hilly village so if you have young kids best to walk into Alvor and get taxi home. We had a great time here and would definitely recommend for families"

"We had an excellent stay at Alvor Beach Villas. We have previously stayed at Dom João hotel and decided to stay in the villas this year. From our late night arrival right up to check out every member of staff we encountered was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was super clean and pool area was great. We enjoyed our breakfast every morning in the main hotel which has a great selection of fresh food. Main highlight was the made to order omelettes the chef was super! We can’t wait to stay again next year. Thank you for a wonderful holiday."

The private beach access was one of a kind & there are several scenic viewpoints within walking distance of the hotel. The property is massive with endless seating options.
