For a Regional area like Utsunomiya, I cannot help but rave about how amazing Candeo Hotel Utsonomiya is. Starting from the location; it’s not even 5 minutes from the station so if you have heavy suitcases; there’s barely any hassle to get to the hotel. There’s also a 7-11 right below the hotel so if you need a bite at 2-3 am, you know where to go: there’s also some amazing restaurants right below the hotel so id also say it’s super convenient. In terms of the room, the room was very well maintained with elegant design and very cozy. Room size was sufficient enough and also very comfortable. And the breakfast is just amazing. Every day different soups and just delicious salads with super fresh fruit. 6 out of 5 on the breakfast. And lastly the service, just very very helpful and extremely polite and patient. Some understood English and some understood basic but with google translate it was a piece of cake. They also helped me transfer my luggage from their hotel to the next in another city. Overall just a 5 on 5 rating for every aspect of the hotel.
Good hotel with excellent service. Conveniently located, 15-20 min walk from the station and attractions. There is an onsen. Stayed in a Japanese-style room. Very atmospheric. Breakfast and dinner were delicious.
The same English-speaking staff was at the front desk and breakfast and dinner, so communication was smooth even if you didn't speak Japanese. The hotel facilities are old, but they are spotlessly clean. The tatami and duvets are very comfortable and I had a good night's sleep. The breakfast and dinner are also very rich, and the price-performance ratio of this price range hot spring hotel is unbeatable. It takes only 5 minutes to walk to the edge of the canyon and the upper reaches of the Kinu River, where I saw a little bit of cherry blossoms.
The hotel is generally new and clean. The rooms have slightly low ceilings but are functional, and the bathroom is easy to use. It takes 9 minutes to walk from the station. However, the atmosphere along the way isn’t great due to solicitors from girls’ bars. That said, the service at the hotel is good, and the price is reasonable.
Free welcome drink bar with red and white wine, beer, coffee, cola, popsicles
Opening hours: 14:00-22:00
After check-out, there is a shuttle bus from the hotel to the station, which costs 300 yen per person. You need to make an appointment with the counter the day before.
Free karaoke, billiard room, comic room, hot spring
You can really spend two whole days in the hotel, it's very comfortable❤️
Service: Very good. A grandma in the restaurant recommended me the tofu skin at the station.
Hot spring: Since there are only 16 rooms, the two times I went there were reserved. There are also free massage chairs in the lounge outside.
Breakfast and dinner were both delicious. (The terrace of the restaurant has a very nice view. There are lounge chairs inside where you can lie down all afternoon with a glass of happy water while enjoying the wind)
The video below was taken from the balcony of the room.
The hotel is great! The room was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with many facilities like karaoke, a game center, and more. I visited with my family, a total of 14 people, and they were able to arrange a private room for us for both dinner and breakfast. Both meals were buffet-style and absolutely delicious.
The onsen experience was wonderful, and the view from the onsen was fantastic, with a beautiful view of the Kinugawa River.
However, there was one issue: when we checked in, the reception took our passports for photocopying. Unfortunately, they missed returning one of the passports to us. It wasn’t until after we checked out and reached our next stop that we realized one passport was missing. We had to go back to the hotel to take it.
Despite this, the overall experience was great, and I would still recommend the hotel.
A relatively traditional and ancient Japanese-style hotel. The dinner is Kaiseki cuisine, and each person has a breakfast, which is very particular. The hotel is also very clean, hygienic, quiet and comfortable. I like it very much. When I checked out, I found out that the sake in the store won a Japanese award, but it was a pity that I didn't taste it. A small gift was given when I checked out. The service in all aspects was very good.
The hotel is high-end and elegant, with the luxurious feel of a five-star hotel. I live on the sixth floor and open the window to see the outdoor scenery of Utsunomiya. The hotel’s buffet is also very characteristic. The disadvantage is that it is too far from the subway station, I walked for 20 minutes
Hot springs are good. There was also an open-air bath, and it was so good that I really got sick in the sleeping bath. The amenities in the bathroom were good with a wide selection of items.
In addition, the night meal service was delicious (dan 々 noodles), the breakfast buffet was also good, and the taste was good.
The observation room was overlooked 360 degrees, the scenery was good, and after checking out, I was relaxed and healed.

Great
GGuest UserThe impressions are the most rosy. About the pros:
1. The hotel looks well-kept and new. The room is large, with a balcony, toilet with shower, there is a mini-bar, tea accessories, pajamas, yukatas, everything is in place. Small gifts. Everything was very nice. There is a coffee machine in the lobby area, you can take books to read, there is a souvenir shop.
2. Warm attitude during the serving of food, especially during dinner. The taste of the food and the quality for me were excellent. As a foreigner unfamiliar with the traditions of the cuisine, we are grateful for the opportunity to touch the culinary microclimate of the region. Although I understand that my opinion cannot be considered expert.
3. A good area with onsen. There is an indoor pool and rotenburo, there is no need to bring towels from the room. There is a small common lounge area with drinks and ice cream.
Minor minuses: 1. If you go to the hotel by taxi, it takes you to a gravel path, and then you calmly get there by walking a little to the official entrance of the hotel. But if you walk, and it's about 20 minutes from the station, then knowing that you went through a more convenient service entrance, the detour to the main entrance will seem strange, although in the end it has its own charm.
2. The service at the entrance to the hotel seems a little blurry. Especially after the service in the same restaurant. But we arrived late in the evening, so it is likely that everyone was just tired by the time we arrived.
3. The hotel held a lecture on our evening, but it was in Japanese. Although I do not see a mechanism by which it could be made more accessible. Hiring a translator who would translate into English for a couple of foreigners is strange. Conducting it in English when most of the guests were Japanese is wrong.
The hotel is not cheap, but I think it is worth the money. I highly recommend it.
AAnonymous UserFirst of all, let me praise the hotel's service. It is simply a model. You can experience 100% care, 100% seriousness, and 100% diligence. In addition to meeting the various requirements of guests, a tip is that when you arrive at Kinugawa Onsen Station, you don’t need to take a ride. Let the hotel know in advance and the hotel will send a car to pick you up at the station. Of course, it will also be delivered to the station. In fact, the station is not far from the hotel, only a few hundred meters, and it is quite fast to walk there.
The restaurant's food quality is good, whether for breakfast or dinner, it is worthy of praise. Sometimes the restaurant is full of customers and the three waitresses keep running around. It’s so hard.
The hot spring water is so hot that I'll be sweating after a while.
The room is large in size and the facilities are average.
Because the price is not expensive, there are so many guests here that it is always full. Yes, a good hotel will naturally attract more people.

PPetrCool and high-class ryokan hotel. Optimal location for exploring Nikko and surrounding attractions, excellent service, clean and cool onsen with a variety of creams, which can be bought right there in the souvenir shop. Great and varied dinner and breakfast, inexpensive drinks. We stayed for 2 days and 4 meals were different on the menu.
It was nice to receive gift coupons for souvenirs and alcohol at the hotel.
View of the mountain river right from the room. Girls can choose a yukata of the color they like for their stay in the ryokan. It's cool that for the entire stay in the ryokan you are assigned one maid who feeds you and sees you off and helps deliver your luggage - you feel like you are visiting friends. The staff is great - very attentive, but not intrusive.
The downsides are the slightly tired room, but not lacking traditional chic, old curtains, cold light in the room (personally not very pleasant for me, I would advise the hotel to think about replacing the lamps with 3000 Kelvin).
I highly recommend the ryokan, the guys are trying.

DDaria GrWe stayed at the hotel in October 2024. We took a room for 8 people, there were four of us in it.
Pros:
1. The room has almost everything you need, from a washing machine to a capsule coffee machine and your own grill.
2. Very comfortable pillows and futons.
3. There is a full set of accessories for dogs.
4. There is your own onsen.
5. Heated floors in the recreation area.
6. Parking for cars.
7. Balcony with a huge table.
Cons:
0. Bad location. About 20 minutes walk from the station in the opposite direction from the attractions. The hotel is in a dark, remote place. There are not sidewalks everywhere on the way to the hotel. On one side of the hotel is an industrial zone, on the other - a highway. We barely found it at night. There are no cafes or public places nearby, but there are two combinis within a 10-minute walk. There are no bus stops nearby - walk to the station, then take a bus to the attractions. The hotel is primarily intended for vacationers arriving in their own cars. The hotel itself looks like a classic American motel with entrances from the street.
1. Painful check-in: you need to enter your data into the tablet in the room, our data was lost several times, and we had to re-enter it. They require a photo of your passport, a photo of the person. Then you need to call a live employee and confirm your check-in on camera, answer questions. We could not get through to him for about 10 minutes. In total, it took us at least half an hour to check-in.
2. I discovered that the tablet we checked in on had a camera on while it was on the stand and was filming everything that was happening in the room. Of course, we did not give permission for this. I recommend removing the tablet from the stand and placing it face down on the table.
3. One toilet and one shower in a room designed for 8 people.
4. Eight people won't fit in this room. Two double beds are in one room (not very convenient, no privacy), but there is no place to put four futons for the other guests. We barely fit two futons, moving the table to the side.
5. No iron.
6. The washing machine does not show the temperature. I threw my sneakers in the dryer, after drying they shrank by two sizes (had to throw them out), since the temperature was extra-high, but there was no information about this on the washing machine display.
7. Broken door to the bathroom, slightly worn furniture.
GGuest UserGreat traditional-yet-luxurious ryokan near the UNESCO temples of Nikko. The room was amazing: it had a private hot tub, tatami mats, a massage chair, and even binoculars. Dinner was a delight, a classical tasting menu full of surprises. My only complaints are about the shuttle system. Hotel is extremely inflexible in how and when you can get a ride to and from the sites and train station: other than a couple of fixed time slots, they make you either walk or take a taxi. Expected a bit more in this regard. They also very much rushed me out the door in the morning which went counter to the relaxing experience I’d had. Other than this, easy to recommend.
GGuest UserThe same English-speaking staff was at the front desk and breakfast and dinner, so communication was smooth even if you didn't speak Japanese. GGuest UserThe bus stop is at the intersection, and it is a 6-minute walk uphill from the hotel. The semi-open-air bath in the room is just a bathtub. There is no hot spring, but you can take a bath or soak your feet. However, because it is directly facing the woods, you need to prevent mosquitoes and fallen leaves, but you didn't see any large animals. Every day, the waiter will put the yukata, toiletries, coffee and tea bags, etc. in the entrance. You need to put the items you want to change and the garbage in the entrance for them to take away. They will not enter the room. The food is fresh, but the set meal is not too big, and it may not be enough for men.
