Wyndham Hotel Surfers Paradise

9.1/10

Stayed at the Wyndham in Surfers Paradise for a family weekend away and overall it was a solid choice. As Gold Coast locals we didn’t really need the constant upsell on tours and activities, but I can see how interstate or overseas visitors would find that useful. The location is the real strength here — easy walking distance to Cavill Avenue, directly opposite Q1, and the observation deck nearby was great for the family. Very convenient without needing to constantly drive around Surfers. Our king-sized room was spacious, comfortable and worked well travelling with a young family. The hotel itself felt clean and well maintained. One thing worth noting for visitors is that the Hamilton Street beach entrance is still showing the effects of Cyclone Alfred from 2024, so beach access in that immediate area is not quite back to normal yet. That’s obviously outside the hotel’s control, but useful for travellers planning beach days. Overall, a good stay if you want a central Surfers Paradise base with plenty within walking distance.

As a four-star hotel, it largely meets the four-star standard. It's a high-traffic hotel, but the service in all aspects is quick, and they also offer personalized service. It's part of The Star group, so the hotel's location is integrated with The Star complex, and the buildings are all interconnected. I noted in advance that we were celebrating my child's birthday, and they prepared a greeting card and a toy bear, which made my child very happy. In the evening, my child had a cough and was a bit sick, throwing up on the bed. Housekeeping quickly brought new bedding without a single complaint or extra cleaning fee, and they were very caring towards my child. The only minor drawback might be the parking. It's a bit roundabout; you have to go to The Star's car park and follow the instructions carefully. However, the hotel sent parking instructions a day or two before check-in, which was very helpful.

Pros: Excellent location, right next to the LRT station. Spacious room with a balcony. Cons: Limited breakfast options. Facilities are a bit old (haven't used a shower with separate hot and cold water taps in 15 years). Cockroaches on the balcony one night (at least none inside). Right opposite the Sling Shot ride, so expect constant screaming until 10 PM.

The location is fantastic, right at the end of the main shopping street. You can literally just walk downstairs and you're there. We were able to walk to several attractions from the hotel. The front desk for check-in is shared by two hotels, which wasn't very clearly indicated, and I was quite anxious while waiting in line. It's a pretty big hotel with lots of guests, and no matter which building you're in, there's always an elevator out of order. It seems like they always have to have one of the three elevators shut down for maintenance.

I stayed at this hotel for one night during a long layover. My friend picked me up from the airport, so it only took about 15 minutes to get there by car. The room was clean, and the bed was large and comfortable, which was great. However, there were hardly any amenities, so you'll need to bring your own toothbrush, body soap, shampoo, etc. A hairdryer was provided, and there were two types of towels. Breakfast was a simple, home-style meal, but it was perfectly sufficient for a one-night stay. If you're staying for multiple nights and want something different, there's a McDonald's nearby that you could use.

We weren't happy with the first room but they were more than happy to accommodate a room change. Very happy with where we stayed.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Overall stay at Brisbane Marriott We recently stayed at the Brisbane Marriott  for my daughters 21st and were genuinely impressed by how lovely the hotel is and how amazing the staff were. The warm, welcoming service started from the moment we arrived at valet parking and continued throughout our stay. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, accommodating, and did their best to assist us. The rooms themselves were nice and comfortable, although we did notice some wear and tear, particularly with the bathroom and bedroom cabinetry which was scratched and broken. The beds also felt quite small for two adults and made sleeping a little squishy. Our biggest concern, however, was the air-conditioning. When we first walked into the room it was set at 18 degrees, which we thought would be perfect—especially with four girls getting ready, expecting a cool room so our makeup wouldn’t melt. Unfortunately, it was the complete opposite. The room felt like a hot box from the start. The staff were fantastic and came to check and reset the system twice, but by the time we returned at 1am, it was still extremely hot. It was uncomfortable enough that one of our group decided to go home because she couldn’t sleep in the heat. At that hour, there was also no one at the front desk to seek further assistance from. We did mention this at checkout, as we genuinely expected that a well-known, reputable hotel like the Marriott would not have such an issue with air-conditioning. It was disappointing, as everything else—from the service to the overall atmosphere—was lovely. Massive shout out to the male staff member who collected our bags both at arrival and departure (sorry wasn’t able to recall you name) you are a great asset to the hotel!! With improvement to the room cooling, this would have been a fantastic stay. The staff truly are the highlight of the hotel.

1. **Prime Location:** Just a 3-minute walk to the beach, with the G:link light rail station right at the doorstep. It's a 5-minute stroll to Cavill Avenue, a bustling pedestrian street packed with restaurants, bars, and convenience stores. A taxi to the airport takes about 25 minutes. 2. **Amenities & Experience:** Modern rooms, many with private balconies (sea or city views available). Features include an outdoor pool, spa, sauna, and gym. Dining options include Fables restaurant and Tales bar. Free and stable WiFi is provided. The downsides are that some facilities feel a bit dated, and street-facing/lower-floor rooms can experience noise from nearby bars on weekends. Parking is paid and limited. 3. **Service:** 24-hour front desk with multilingual staff who can assist with booking theme park tickets and excursions. Luggage storage is seamless. A credit card deposit is required at check-in. 4. **Ideal For:** Couples, families, and budget-conscious business travelers. During peak season, it's recommended to book an inner, higher-floor room in advance.

I booked on the day we arrived as I needed accommodation close to Northshore Eat Street. Saw reviews about access issues so I called before booking and was advised access info is sent at 2pm. We had no problems with online booking and receiving access code. Room was good value for money with balcony, plenty of free parking and wifi. Would definitely book again if I need accommodation close to airport.
