"The hotel is a short distance from Zermatt Railway Station. It takes more than ten minutes to walk. It takes a slope and climb the stairs. A total of 5 floors, we lived in a mountain view room, the room was clean and spacious, the facilities were perfect, and the decoration was very Swiss mountain style. The balcony is quite big, and there is no partition from the adjacent room. If the weather is good, you can directly see the top of Matterhorn, and you can also see the train up the mountain passing by the side of the hillside. It is a great experience. There are bread, cakes, yogurt, sausages, fruits, coffee and other Western breakfasts, and the restaurant is very cute. The front desk and restaurant waiters of the hotel are very warm and the wifi is very smooth. It is not far from the Matterhorn shooting check-in point and the black-faced sheep restaurant. It is recommended."

"The reception was supposed to close at 10:00 pm. I called the hotel that I am running late and the lady kindly waited for me. The room was tiny but clean and cosy. We didn’t have neighbors on the floor, so having the shared bathroom wasn’t a problem. It is value for money"

"The hotel's exterior is quite unique! While the rooms aren't spacious, the hotel's thoughtful touches made for a very comfortable stay. The vintage telephone was a charming detail! The front desk staff were incredibly thoughtful, attentive, and enthusiastic in providing information, which was greatly appreciated. My only regret was the restaurant's food. The selection wasn't very varied, and you only got one egg at a time even when specifically ordered. What's more, there were flies, which definitely needs addressing! However, on the plus side, the Matterhorn was directly visible from the restaurant windows!"

"Facilities: Great! The room is very spacious and the facilities are very new. The weather was good, so the Matterhorn view was really good, just like in the picture
I saw the night view and the Golden Horn, so I had a fulfilling day!

"Hotel is approximately 10mins walk from Zermatt train station. There is a bus stop to Matterhorn Glacier Paradise cable car station about 4mins away from the hotel, very convenient. The hotel gave us a free upgrade during our stay and the view from the balcony was amazing! The pool and sauna facility looked great but didnt had a chance to try. "Hands down, this was one of my absolute favorite places during my trip to Switzerland. Highly recommend if you're visiting Zermatt! Definitely make sure to book a room with a Matterhorn view. The breakfast was generally good, though it could have used a bit more fresh fruit. Plus, having a microwave and water dispenser in the basement was a great perk that helped us save money on bottled water."

"the location is good, located near the cable car up the matterhorn! we were given a room located in the annex building, which you have to go out into the open before assessing (q inconvenient..). there were also limited amenities (no kettle, no soap etc). the breakfast tho.... was worth it! The highlight of my stay was the warm hospitality from the owners, Thor and Michele. They personally served the buffet breakfast every morning, which was both delicious and thoughtfully prepared. On my first day, I unfortunately missed breakfast, but as I was heading out around 10:45 am, they surprised me by reserving some food for me to enjoy before leaving. It was such a thoughtful and touching gesture that truly made me feel cared for.
The room itself was immaculate and had everything I needed. The balcony offered a stunning mountain view, which was a perfect way to start and end each day. Thor and Michele went above and beyond to make me feel like a VIP throughout my stay. They remembered my name, attended to every need, and even took the time to explain the local attractions and recommend food options based on my preferences.
I feel incredibly lucky to have secured two nights at this gem of a hotel, especially since it’s almost always fully booked. This was one of the most personal and heartwarming stays I’ve ever had. If you’re visiting Zermatt, staying here is an absolute must. Thank you, Thor and Michele, for making my trip so memorable!

Once you arrive, you’re greeted by panoramic mountain views in every direction, with the iconic Matterhorn standing proudly in front of you. The setting is perfect for ski-in/ski-out access in winter and stunning hiking trails in summer.

The rooms are cozy, modern, and well-equipped while still maintaining a classic Swiss alpine charm. Many rooms come with Matterhorn views, and waking up to this scenery is an experience in itself. The beds are comfortable, and the rustic wooden decor gives a warm, welcoming feel. Some rooms have balconies, which I highly recommend booking for the full experience.

The staff is friendly, professional, and attentive. Despite the hotel’s remote location, the service is top-notch, with staff going out of their way to accommodate special requests. From seamless check-in to helpful local recommendations, they make the stay even more special.
Dining – 8.5/10
The on-site restaurant serves delicious Swiss cuisine, including traditional dishes like fondue and rösti. The breakfast is generous, featuring fresh bread, cheeses, meats, and eggs cooked to order. The only downside is that, due to the remote location, dining options are limited to the hotel restaurant, but the quality makes up for it.

The outdoor hot tub with a view of the Matterhorn is an absolute highlight! There’s also a sauna and steam bath, perfect after a day of skiing or hiking. Soaking in the warm water while surrounded by snow-capped peaks is an experience worth every penny.

Winter: Perfect for skiing, as the hotel is directly on the slopes. The ski room is convenient, and the access to the Gornergrat ski area is unbeatable.
Summer: Incredible hiking trails with direct access to the Gornergratbahn for easy excursions to higher altitudes.

Room was really nice and the extra sauna and open concept bathtub was a nice surprise! Breakfast spread was super delicious as well. Facilities like the wellness area include foot bath, infrared chairs, jacuzzi etc.

GGuest UserThe Matterhornlodge is located about a 5-10 min walk from the Zermatt station.
We arrived at about 1pm and were informed that check-in was only at 2pm so we went for lunch and returned at around 2.30pm. We were greeted by Ruth, the proprietress of the hotel, who gave us a comprehensive briefing of the house rules and policies. Ruth was very warm, friendly, and charming; she was very guest-focused and was happy to find out more about where we were from and what we planned to do. Ruth even gave us recommendations for Bern when we told her we were going there next.
Although the hotel is stated to be 4 stars, we were very impressed by the room and the amenities. The bathroom came with a bidet and the toiletries provided were of good quality. The room was also very spacious with enough room to open up 2 luggage bags. The towels and robes were thick, warm, and fluffy.
The breakfast provided in the morning was also quite good with a decent selection of breads, cold cuts, cheese, and eggs.
At checkout, Ruth also gave us a complimentary ride to the train station in her electric vehicle.
All in all, we had a very enjoyable stay at the Matterhornlodge and we were very impressed by Ruth’s hospitality.

HHarmonickFor a truly memorable stay in Zermatt, look no further than the Traditional Julen Hotel. We travelled throughout Switzerland, and the view from our Matterhorn room was hands down the best we experienced. Waking up to that iconic peak every morning was simply breathtaking.
The service at the Julen is impeccable. The staff is incredibly accommodating and went above and beyond to meet every need we had, making us feel truly welcome. Speaking of needs, be sure to grab a bite at their downstairs restaurant. The food is excellent, though the space is a little on the cozy (some might say claustrophobic) side. Don't let that deter you, though - the culinary experience is well worth it.
Overall, the Traditional Julen Hotel is a fantastic choice. Splurge on the Matterhorn room for an unforgettable view, and rest assured knowing you'll be taken care of by a truly exceptional team. Highly recommended!

AAnonymous UserThe view is amazing. The service is really great. Someone was very enthusiastic to show me the room. This is the first time I've encountered this in Europe. Although the hotel upgraded the room and there is a large terrace, the building is too low and the view in front is blocked. I don't know if this price is for the first floor. I'm also speechless. But the hotel has three swimming pools and the facilities are great. But the first floor room has a smell. It feels big. It's like the smell of wooden furniture. It's very smelly. Although they helped to deal with it, I didn't want to be sprayed with air freshener again. I didn't feel very comfortable staying for one night. There is a shuttle bus to and from the hotel. When I went there, I forgot that I had walked there. I took a detour and walked for a long time.

CChiaoThe hotel was in 5 minutes walking from Zermatt train station and it offered free shuttle for check in and out as there was a steep path to the hotel entrance, not good to walk with luggages. I booked 2 bedrooms family suite but only with one bathroom which was the downside. However, the total space of 60 meter sq with a decent living room and a small balcony facing Matterhorn were a plus to the overall stay. There were some minor defects and the staff fixed efficiently. They had an indoor pool, a jacuzzi and a sauna room. I had to mention that the jacuzzi was of high standard and you must go after a day of hiking. So bring your swimming suit. However, please note that in there culture, no clothes are allowed to enter the sauna room and it is in mixed genders. The breakfast buffet was lack of choices. But I had to specially name Mr Fernando, he always welcome us with very good coffee and of course his warm greetings in the morning.
Suggestion to the hotel:
1. Stated clearly the number of bathroom/ toilet in the booking details regarding my booking is a 2 bedrooms suite.
2. More choices for breakfast, my family stays 4 nights there. Everyday, the menu is same.
3. The pool was closed at 8pm, will be better if it closes at 9pm as it was rather rush for the guests to use after dinner.
Overall, I recommend this hotel to family. I will come back again.

GGuest UserThis is one of the only affordable options available in Zermatt but I’d recommend avoiding it. The property is at 45meter high which became a challenge to go up with luggage. Then when you reach there sadly i had opted for a 8 bed room which was on the 4th floor which didn’t have lift 🥲.
Then when i reached my room it turned out to a common tiny attic again entryway via another stairs with laid out communal style attached beds. It was so bad that if i extended both my arms i’d cover other people. You can imagine homeless people sleeping together.
The amenities are available outside and it has good breakfast and WiFi was my savior. If you are really on a budget choose something not the cheapest option here.

GGuest user123Initially I was a bit apprehensive about this hotel based on reviews but it was a good stay!! Great value for Zermatt! Walking distance about 10 mins from Zermatt station, on shopping street. Toilets and stairway up a bit small but ok for us. Luckily we were located on first floor so didn’t have to climb up too many stairs with our luggage. There’s a pizzeria below. Things to note: didn’t see a bin ( only a small one in toilet) so maybe bring your own plastic bag for a bin as well as room slippers.
Place was clean! However there’s some loud music that played even in the wee hours of the night like 3am, so if you are a light sleeper, you might need to put on some ear plugs to muffle the noise out. Nonetheless, A huge thank you for the stay. Convenient, Breakfast was awesome, simple spread but very heartwarming and the coffee was the most delicious I’ve had. It was the Easter weekend so there’s pretty Easter eggs for breakfast too! The lady owner was lovely and check in and check out was very easy and seamless. We stayed for a night and would recommend this place.
