Grids Tokyo Ueno Hotel&Hostel Reviews

I recently stayed at Grids during a summer trip, choosing a multi-bunk bed room for its affordability. While the stay had some positive aspects, there were a few areas that could use improvement, which I hope can be helpful feedback for future guests and the hotel. Upon entering the room, I noticed an unpleasant smell, somewhat like foot odor, which was particularly noticeable in the warm summer weather. Better ventilation or more frequent cleaning could make a big difference in creating a fresher and more welcoming environment. It wasn’t unbearable, but it did impact the overall comfort of the stay. The room itself was basic, with standard bunk beds that were functional. Unfortunately, no complimentary towels (you have to pay to get it) which was a bit inconvenient, especially for travelers who might not bring their own. Including these small essentials would go a long way in improving the guest experience, even in a budget-friendly setting. On the brighter side, the staff were friendly and approachable, though they seemed stretched thin at times. The hotel’s location was also a plus, with easy access to Ueno station, making it convenient for exploring the area. Overall, my stay at Grids was okay but could be improved with better attention to room freshness and basic amenities like towels. For budget travelers, it’s a decent option, but these small changes could make it much more enjoyable. I hope the hotel considers these tweaks for future guests!

Loved how they provided both hot and cold water, they even have makeup cleansing oil, face wash, and slippers. About 10-minute straight walk from Ueno Station, still manageable if carrying luggage. As someone with serious allergic rhinitis, really appreciated how clean the room was. Air circulation was great and I actually had some good sleep. Also can’t thank the staff enough for helping to receive my package that arrived almost two weeks before my check-in date. so kind and helpful throughout my stay.

I really liked this hostel, the location is great, very close to Ueno station. There are many restaurants and shops nearby and Ueno Park. You can store your luggage under your bed, and there is enough space to sleep.

Would be nice if you serve towel and other amenities. But overall i really love the vibe and hostel ❤️

Awesome location, price and service! Clean, and the female only floor was great, private, safe and quiet. Loved it!

The location is quite close to one of the Ueno station entrances, so it's quite convenient. The bed is kinda hard and not comfortable. And the bunk bed stairs are hard to climb, so it feels dangerous when you want to go down at night.

It’s my fault, I did not read carefully. They did not provide the free towel. The fee for towel for both small and big one are 300 Yen. The location is good for travel, you can walk to ameyoko street food and Ueno station. The cleanliness is not good for me, I think my bed have some bad smell and my baggage is look dirty after keep it in the baggage storage under the bed.

Nice place, I really love it but a little bit far away from the station, not convenient for traveler who brings a large baggage.

Great location and clean hostel. Temperatures of room was uneven, the one stay close to the window was too cold but those who slept on top of the bund bed was too warm. Do take note that you have to rent your towel. This caught us by surprise. We have stayed in hostels in other countries and this is the first time towel is not provided.

A great experience in a 3 person room, location is perfect and close to ueno station.

Very good hostel with friendly staff who speak english. Staff allowed for storing of luggage on day of check in and check out. Hostel close to the Ueno station, and close to many tourist attractions. Highly recommended.
