The food was horrible to be honest that would be the only thing I think they would need to fix in terms of a hotel location

Let's state that a holiday is what YOU make it. To many people (English) expect every single hotel or venue to be the same, well there not live with it. Nowadays you can go on holiday without actually going because of things like this TripAdvisor. Is it a 3 star hotel, it was and it's trying to be but it's about 2.5. The hotel is 1970's design and it shows but not in a bad way. Location is next to the beach perfect. The grounds very well kept. The rooms are very good and well maintained. It even had a 3 pin UK plug that we used via a modern 3 way plus 4 usb adapter, perfect. The pool was the best I've ever been in. The pool staff work daily to keep it maintained. Food... D bay hut/restaurant was absolutely perfect, the staff and chef (Daren and Patrice) catered for my every need as a very fussy eater. The main restaurant was a little different, the food was good but not always to my liking. The staff were sometimes a little to layed back and slightly under trained. Do not use your rep, find Barry on the beach front in the morning for a much better deal, yes you can negotiate prices for an outstanding service and knowledgeable tour (whatever you choose to do). So overall we enjoyed it as we took it as it came and as it was. I would go back to this hotel but only after finding a better deal as we found out people had paid less than we did.

I have never stayed at such a dis-organised resort in all my life. There is no supervision - leadership, one hand doesn’t know what the other is doing. One bar tender working on his own all day min 15min each time wait for service. Supposed to be All inclusive, first time I have ever had to stand in a line to be serviced by one server who is managing 7 warming trays with half of them empty and not knowing if when replenishment will be arriving if at all. I felt like I was attending with a begging bowl. I could go on but think you get the vibe. Please spend your well earned money elsewhere

Reviews from last two ,civilmanager and John B reflect our opinion totally no need repeating having just returned from 2 week stay here. To add: Getting out of hotel with local tour guys Woody(Woody Tours) or Barry will change your opinion of Tobago with friendly people if you engage with them. They can be found on the beach most days. Island Tours can be tailor made to your interest not an organised one. Hotel has undergone takeover transfer from Rex Resorts Turtle Bay to Starfish Tobago and rumour has it that another takeover is on the cards which might account for staff attitude. D Bay grill and Sheryl’s team exemption to that, which one of the reasons most English guests eat there everyday, the other being that at weekends the hotel is overrun by locals from Trinidad on long weekend holidays who I might say all were more friendly and welcoming than some of the hotel staff. No water sports, according to water sport/beach towel guy as most locals ‘can’t swim’ so the red flag is flying and the boats/canoes are stored away. We did get a managers welcome evening and did convey all the points raised to the him including the pools lack of filtration. All said I would return here as it has great potential and a base to see the real Tobago which is outside the hotel.

The place is very clean and tidy, reception staff is exceptional. SOME barmen have the charisma. Generally attentive. Cleaners are very pleasant. Pool is well kept, towels were not available at reception or at the pool house. Bath towels were not able to be changed due " the hotel is fully booked" The downside starts with meals. Restaurant was not opened on time during my visit, approximately 30 minutes late each time. You generally stand in the sun for about 15 minutes outside a tent while the staff is surrounded by the serving trays and dish out the food for breakfast fyi breakfast is the same for the days I visited. The meals are very bland maybe 5 options. The attending staff at the restaurant are almost emotionless and lacks the " service with a smile" that you get from other all inclusive resorts in the Caribbean. You hear loud explosion of staff with guest over simple things like seating arrangements etc. would I visit again? Definitely no.

We have just returned from a great 2 weeks in Tobago, but this was due to our 'northern friends' at the hotel, not the hotel. On arrival we were just given the all inclusive bands and a key to the room. No introduction or welcome drink which most similar places would do. The rooms, as with the whole place are looking very tired and in urgent need of refurbishment, although the aircon was very good. The room telephones didn't work, and very surprisingly there was no drinking water in our room until we had been there 3 days-can be purchased in the poorly stocked shop. There was a crack in our bath, which luckily also had a shower. The rooms are large, but you never felt they were particularly clean due to the age. The food arrangements are very varied, depending on how the staff feel. Although meal times are given to you on arrival, these can sometimes be late (25mins) starting, especially breakfast. There is a varied choice for breakfast but in the main restaurant lunch and dinner revolves around chicken, fish, rice, lamb, and curry. Deserts are usually small cakes or similar. Only once were we offered ice cream, and we would have expected a selection of fruit at lunch and dinner. Burgers and toasted sandwiches are available at the D Bay grill at lunch. Sometimes they did run out of deserts, as the bar did with syrups for cocktails. Apart from Sheryl at the D Bay and the 'pool guy', the staff generally are not interested and will shrug their shoulders if you complain. A typical example is one Monday night we turned up for the managers cocktail party to be told it was not on as there was no manager in the hotel, not that they seemed bothered. Jacuzzi wasn't working, entertainment was only for an hour and half or so, and water sports were limited. The beach is very sandy, but so is the sea bed so snorkelling is better away from the hotel. The hotel is really more geared up for locals at weekends. The headline claim on the Starfish Tobago website is anything but correct. Probably the worst service we have experienced for many years in the UK or overseas.

Ok...the pluses....setting is beachfront and glorious. The pool is great but could do with being a tad cooler in the heat...but the hotel is so badly managed....the staff are in the main the most miserable I have ever come across...everything seems to be an effort...we got no towel cards given....no drinks in fridge as others seem to have had stocked....phones throughout the hotel didn't work the whole 2 weeks....towels and room maids often really late so came back after a day at the beach to have to wait for room to be done..not ideal....had no beer cos the barman hadnt turned up and noone knew how to change the keg...also couldn't make the cocktails supposedly listed. There was only about 30 people staying...when it became busier at weekends with locals....virtually ran out of food for evening dinner....not a single dessert. Generally the staff just didn't want to know....the reception staff actually laughed when we tried to complain...such a shame for this could be a great little hotel with some training and management. We will be writing to back with whom we booked this.

A 5 star stay at this wonderful 3 star hotel. I’m a travelling single parent and have to say all staff were amazing and welcomed us. Rooms fab, 2 large double beds and 1 big single so enough room for the 3 of us. Food is fine, not a huge choice but what’s available is more than adequate. You have to remember this is a small Caribbean island hotel, it is not a Club Med 5 star hotel. If you are content with comfort on a budget this is perfect. We would definitely come back, loved every minute. We managed to book our trips with Barry too, he can be found on the beach. Highly recommended. Overall a wonderful stay, thank you Starfish ❤️

My sister/friend and I (both named Heather) spent 3 days and 2 nights at the Starfish Resort from July 30/2024 to August 1/2024. We were pleased with the reception received from the Manager - Marita - and the welcome staff especially Anton Lopez. The room was clean and comfortable. The hospitality staff were all attentive and the meals were delicious and well served. Kudos to Chef Christian and the lady at the omlette station. The evening entertainment was just fitting the time of day. We will certainly return, this time with our other friends. Thanks to all for making our stay the relaxation get away - the pool, the drinks and the sea were all we needed.
