Castle in Old Town

We absolutely loved our stay at the hotel. The care we received was second to none, the restoration of the building was superb & the rooms fabulous. Comfortable, stylish & all round incredible. We cannot rate the hotel high enough.

The building is interesting and old. In the lobby the owner displays a collection of art. which he has collected around the world. The Staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is very good for sightseeing and exploring the city. But a guest must be aware of several things. You cannot approach the hotel by car directly. Thre are many stairs to climb. The Staff does help with the luggage!. Not all rooms are in the castle, quite a few are in surrounding buildings. The ones not in the castle seem to be of a lower standard.The rooms were large, clean but not really decorated to my taste and not comfortable for me. The squeeky, soft beds are not to my taste. Didn't sleep well. Everything despite being clean seems run down, old (not antique but old). The pool is more of a water reservoir for the water flowing down the mountain. It is small. Forget having a swim or relaxing by the pool. Though the view from the terasse where the pool is located is breathtaking. Breakfast was OK, just OK. All in all, I give a low grade because; I didn't find the rooms/beds comfortable, didn't really enjoy breafast, didn't enjoy the pool. ...and the overall ambience of the place was interesting though ....it's and acquired taste.

Bit of a nightmare to find and when we did eventually arrive, carrying two heavy cases up the steeps stairs was a mission, but what do you expect when you stay in a castle?! Superb location: only a 5 min walk to the old town. The chap who checked us in was very pleasant (although communication was slightly difficult as he spoke almost no English). We were not given a tour or told where the pool was, which I found odd. No telephones in the rooms so we were told to communicate via WhatsApp. This was not possible due to the lack of steady wifi. Public areas of the castle were beautiful. We stayed in the Burmese room for nights and the décor of the room was nice but not particularly luxurious in any way. The room was bizarrely arranged. The toilet was in a closet in one corner and a shower cubicle was in the other corner completely open to the room (I would suggest only sharing with people you feel very comfortable with!). There was no bath matt so the wooden floor became very wet after a shower and was lethal for a few hours afterwards. Small niggle, but they only gave limited toilet roll which was annoying. We had no maid service and our towels were not changed for 3 days, which I found unpleasant. The wifi was barely functioning which was incredibly frustrating. The bed was uncomfortable to my mind but I appreciate that some people do prefer hard beds.For the price paid, I think the facilities should be better. The pool was a disappointment. It was murky and shabby and seemed to have been added as an afterthoughtt. We did not use it, nor did any other guests whilst we were there.

Beautiful and unique, with amazing grounds and a lovely place to relax by the pool

The location was fantastic. You walk right into old town. But the property itself is a bohemian, repurposed castle difficult to navigate with terribly odd-sized rooms and luxury it certainly was not.
