The Coniston Hotel Country Estate & Spa - Skipton

This is the 3rd time visiting this year, previously stayed in the Dales Room and a delux suite which we tried to rebook for a few nights away with my elderly mum, we booked two delux rooms to accommodate 3 adults. We requested high floor and were given rooms next to each other. They were wide and spacious. Very happy that request were met. This hotel has exceptionally friendly and helpful staff, from reception / restaurant and housekeeping everyone smiles and says hello. Amanda in the restaurant was lovely and engaging. Location is lovely it always feels relaxing and lovely walk on the estate. Used the complimentary 1hour in the spa that was relaxing but no drinks on offer this time I assume because it was between 8-10pm The not so good bits. The delux rooms are getting a bit tired, dressing table leg was hanging off and needed pushing back on. TVs are very tiny for the size of the room. Balcony had moss growing between the flags and there were foot high weeds growing on it along with tab ends from a previous guests just thrown down on the balcony, these could easily be resolved to make it look smarter and more cared for. Restaurant, have previously eaten in the Mcloeds but opted for the view this time. Plenty choice but so expensive, £29 for fish dish which didn't include veg or potatoes, felt extortionate, so much so we ate out on 2nd night. Bath in room 2 wasn't clean it had hairs in the bottom and felt scummy. Mentioned at check out and was refunded the service charge applied to the food. Not sure why the restaurant staff had to suffer, but appreciated the gesture. Not sure we will return for a while but great location for a relaxing break and staff are great

Arrived early for spa afternoon with friends so decided to have a light lunch in the hotel restaurant. We all ordered soup and, after waiting a while, asked how long it would be as we were concerned we were going to be late for our spa slot. It arrived after about 20 minutes and was cold. Waitress took it back and the second serving was delicious. Then it came to paying the bill, which again took ages as they said the system was down. Due to the inconveniences, we expected a discount to be offered but it was not forthcoming until we asked. Spa was lovely and relaxing with beautiful views, especially from the outdoor jacuzzis. My massage was a bit heavy handed and my friend said hers wasn't firm enough. Not sure I'd return.
