YHA Wasdale Hall - Hostel

📍 Wasdale Hall, Seascale
★★ 9.4 (35 reviews)

"Wasdale hall is an absolutely excellent YHA , I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there. It’s situated in the most beautiful part of the Lake District and provides a wonderful base in which to walk the Wainwright’s . The hall is one of the cleanest YHA’s I’ve stayed in and the staff are so helpful and friendly."

"Newly renovated room, clean and comfortable with good Wi-Fi and a decent bathroom. Bed was fine and having a bar and restaurant downstairs was really handy. Plenty of free parking too. Just be prepared for a long drive in on very narrow roads — once you’re there, though, it’s a solid spot."

"Absolutely LOVED! this place. Perfect birthday night get away. Amazing decor, superior finish and super comfy bed (most grateful for our unexpected upgrade in room). Slightly out of the way but perfect for our needs as a luxury birthday night hottub getaway on a weekend walking. Room was gorgeous, super clean, just perfect. Thank you Faith and Steve xx"

"I thought the hotel looked a bit bleak from the outside, but inside it is really comfortable, fresh and welcoming. We had a couple of issues with our bikes, and the staff were happy to help us out. We only had breakfast, but it was unlimited and very nice! :-)"

Gosforth Hall Inn

"We wanted a a nice getaway for our anniversary without travelling too far and this seemed to fit the bill. Check in was quick & easy, despite the young chap being kept v busy with bar duties. The weather was incredible, so the amazing beer garden (must be one of the best in the area?) was busy & buzzing with people enjoying sun, drinks and afternoon tapas. Our room was in the hall and full of character, but still had all expected amenities. Be aware some rooms in the hall are accessed by a steep staircase which may not suit everyone! No complaints wirh breakfast - freshly cooked and not greasy in the least. The best thing about the stay was the staff, who without exception, were amazing. A good base for exploring the local lakes/fells, or if you are visiting on business. Would certainly stay again."

"Brilliant stay. The owners couldn’t do enough for us. The owners (Angela and Paul) recommended The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway for one of the days we were staying. It’s not too far away from the lodge. Great steam train experience! Also went up Scafell Pike, again only a short drive away from the Lodge. Will definitely be returning."

"Beautifully decorated room with cosy duvet and pillows. Welcoming staff and homemade cake for us on arrival which we ate in the communal well appointed lounge. Everything is well thought out to give their guests a relaxing stay . We used the honesty bar which had a good selection of spirits and wines . Breakfast was freshly cooked to order and delicious. We loved the homemade bread and local sourced butter . The surrounding scenery is stunning and so peaceful . Hopefully we will manage a return visit soon."

"This property is in serious need of an update. Wallpaper hanging off the wall. Cups left for drinks were unusable. The outside of the shower was very mouldy. The wiring was very unsafe. The view from the window was the nicest part of our stay. I would not recommend this property to anyone."

"What a lovely friendly place to stay on the coast of the West Lake Listrict We had a beautiful view of the Irish Sea in room 2. The room was spacious and clean with a good shower and lovely fluffy towels. The hotel is clean and the staff were always ready to help, especially the lovely Lisa. We ate in the restaurant on arrival which was extremely fresh and tasty. We had the arrabbiata and the carbonara, was delicious. The Bailey Ground hotel was a very nice place to stay with beautiful scenery and we will definitely stay again. Thank you for having us."

"Thank you so much to Paul & Angela for such an amazing stay! Both of you were very accommodating and we are so grateful for all of your recommendations for places to visit around the Lake District. Breakfast was beautiful. The room was spotless, and Paul & Angela couldn’t do enough for us. ‘Home away from home….!’. We will definitely be back! Also make sure to pop down to the beach when you visit!! Thanks again"

Sella Park Country House Hotel ★★★
"We travelled to this hotel mainly because we had a voucher for the Ravenglass Steam and afternoon tea bought for us a Christmas gift and so we wanted to stay nearby the train experience. Myself and my husband rarely get an opportunity to steal a night away from our busy working lives and be ourselves without the kids in tow. We were travelling from Manchester so it was a very long but incredibly scenic drive along the A roads to the hotel. We were aware of time constraints and phoned ahead during our journey down for our pre scheduled dining time to be pushed along. This occurred twice due to unexpected traffic and the staff had no issues with this at all, to our relief. We arrived at such a peaceful, tranquil and welcoming hotel. The staff were so very polite and genuinely friendly people. Lovely people to talk with but never overbearing. We decided to spoil ourselves and book a suite since we rarely get a night off or away from the constraints of life. Wow! this room did not disappoint. It was huge and very traditionally tastefully furnished which was in keeping with the hotel itself. The leaded sash windows and quaint plush window seat was an extra special touch. Also the the beautiful dressing table with the ornate triple mirror being placed next to the natural light coming from this area is an added bonus for us ladies. The bed was comfortable and sprawling. This room could easily accommodate an extra bed or travel cot with still plenty of space to spare. That said it was very warm and we felt the room would defintely benefit from a mini fridge ( maybe placed in the cabinet under the hospitality tray). Also a fan to keep the room feeling fresh would be helpful. The dinning room is peaceful and restful and never felt rushed. We spoke to a lovey waitress called Carol. She is a lovely lady, always smiling and helpful. She talked us through a quality well considered menu and we felt she was so attentive. Thanks Carol for your efforts. ( not sure here about childrens choices we never asked since we we were on a couples night) The food was delicious, fresh and piping hot. Presented to a very high standard. Finally on ordering desserts the chef delivered these, which was a refreshing change, Never usually get to see a chef! He is a lovely guy with a clear passion for cooking fresh cuisine presented to a professional standard. Our meal both pleased the eye and our palette equally. We left pleasantly satisfied and very relaxed The grounds were immaculately kept with plenty of seating. Which included a shaded small gazebo area and walking opportunities with a free natural stream nearby Again so peaceful and tranquil Thanks to all your welcoming staff that helped make our stay memorable pampered and special Mr and Mrs Seager"
