The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas

We had an amazing night at the Ritz prior to our catamaran cruise out of Tortola. Henderson was super helpful checking us in and Mario kept us entertained as he carted us to our rooms. The property is lovely and relaxed. We had read it wasn’t quite as “ritz like” but we had great service. I would totally recommend upgrading to a club room. The wine and food offerings were really very good and the dessert hour was truly amazing. I’m not a huge fan of custards but we had trouble deciding which dessert was our favorite. They were all stunningly good- maybe the guava cheesecake but ask me tomorrow and it would be something else. We were there celebrating my 50th birthday and we had a chocolate cake complete with a note waiting in my room. It set the bar for our entire trip! The only hiccup we had was the first restaurant we visited for dinner the service was very slow. We ended up going to the Italian place instead and had a fantastic meal. The scallops were amazing! Really appreciated all the staff and enjoyed our one night here! Wish we had stayed two at least!

We really enjoyed our short stay at this beautiful hotel. Lovely staff and hotel right on beach. Paradise. Hope to visit again.

This hotel/resort was wrecked by Hurricane Irma several years ago, was beautifully remodeled. We were just there and it was fabulous- staff is amazing. Rooms are comfortable and nice. Right on the beach, with nice chairs and towel services. Multiple pools, restaurants, and bars. We really enjoyed our time at the Ritz in St Thomas

This is a beautiful property but the service is uneven. When you spend $1k/ night you expect the best. Our room had a lovely view, but we never knew if the room would get cleaned. After a day with no cleaning, I called and requested that they just make the bed and empty the trash, another day I had to ask for washcloths. Outside our room the water fountain was out of order. On the plus side, the beach is beautiful and we enjoyed ordering Mai Tais under the palm trees and gazing out over the bright blue sea. We visited all on site restaurants, which are pretty small considering the large number of people staying there. Both times at Alloro we sat at the bar because reservations are difficult to come by. Sails and Coconut Cove are both casual and have a nice view of the water. Southwind is a nice little coffee shop serving croissants and muffins in the morning. We were surprised at the number of kids at the resort. When we first arrived the pool was super crowded with lots of kids and families. It was noisy at first but quieter later in the week. We did a fun snorkel trip on the Lady Lynsey, which anchors right there on the beach. I’m not sure this resort quite lives up to the Ritz Carlton name, but the lush landscaping and beautiful beach setting make it special and overall, a very nice place to visit.

We stayed at the club level for a week and thought it was worth it. As we had a baby and a child, it was more convenient to eat at the lounge most of the time. We were given a room on the same level just a couple of doors down and it was easy to pop in and out. The lounge was never private and felt pretty private. The food was good, not a huge spread but we always found something to eat. Drinks were self service and I quickly googled to make some cocktails out of the selection they had and it was good fun. They always had tea and coffee but the tea water wasn’t really hot. Breakfast was good and the omelette chef lady was very friendly. All the waitresses were always welcoming and friendly. It is a large property but we enjoyed walking around although it is not the most stroller friendly due to different levels. Especially from the club lounge down to the beach, we had to take stairs and carry the stroller down. We rarely went to the lobby and stayed mostly in the club area. The room was pretty basic and housekeeping was okay. We did not hear any noise from other rooms and it was pretty quiet when we were there in October. The beds were comfortable and the kids had a crib and a rollaway bed which worked well for them. The balcony wasn’t cleaned throughout the stay and we did not use it as there were some dead centipedes. The pools were nice but we mostly hung out by the infinity pool by the beach. The kids pool was shallow and there were way too many centipede in the water. My son used the slide at the kids pool a couple of days. The beach was rocky but calm. It isn’t a typical sandy beach and it was a bit difficult to get in without water shoes. Once in the water, it was pleasant. There were never too many people in the water and most guests were staying by the pool. We used kayaks one day and snorkels a couple of times. Snorkelling was pretty good and we saw a number of fish. Kids club was closed and by appointment only during the slow season and we did not use it. We had a rental car and used the self parking mostly. We used valet the first day and it was efficient but we later found out self parking is much closer to our room than walking all the way to the valet desk by the lobby. We used the rental car to go check out different beaches, Coral World, and St. John and I would definitely recommend getting a car.
