I’ve stayed here dozens of times. This stay we had no heat in our room. At checkout I told the front desk he should have maintenance check our room heater. I had a picture of the thermostat and showed him the air temp in the room was a chilly 62 degrees. He responded by saying they had turned off the boilers yesterday because it was warm outside. I told him that was ridiculous and wondered why they were not turned on again for the night. When I told him we woke in the middle of the night and we were cold, he simply stated we should have called the front desk and they would have brought us a space heater. I told him that’s ridiculous and 62-63 degrees is unacceptable. He offered no other solution, apology, or a credit of any sort. This is very disappointing as most of my other stays here were just fine.

Honestly the staff, location, and bedding of this room are all 5 stars, but this HOTel is hotter than the surface of the sun. I highly recommend NOT staying here in the winter. Our room was 78 degrees all night long without the ability to turn it down. It’s an older hotel so there’s a sign that says you can only use heat in winter and heat&ac in summer. If you try to run the heat/fan low it blows air so hot it feels like you’re blow drying your hair. We asked for a fan the second night which they provided, which helped but not much. Blowing hot air is still blowing hot air. There are also no windows to the outside. The windows are into the hallway. Plus is you can literally walk out of the hotel, cross the street, and into st Mary’s.. you’ll be doing it as a zombie because you got zero sleep.

Unfortunately, my experience at Aspen Select was disappointing. The property feels like an old outdoor motel that has simply been enclosed. The carpets are heavily worn and give off a musty smell, and I noticed mold on sections of the walls. The overall cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired, with the rooms and common areas looking dated and not well maintained. While the location is convenient for Mayo visitors, the hotel itself does not live up to expectations. For the price, there are much cleaner and more comfortable options nearby.

Mostly ok, but there was that one thing...
My stay was mostly ok. The staff was friendly and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable. The hotel is older and it does show, but it is maintained pretty well. The thing with this hotel is that something always goes wrong in a way that ruins the experience. Last time, the front desk person was very abrasive and unwilling to help. This time, the water the room was turned off at around 8:30 am and was still off like 10 minutes later when I left. I had no idea that would happen. I mean, why would you expect something like that? The housekeeping staff that I asked about it was just like, yeah the water was turned off, like it is a routine thing. I happened to be up early and mostly on my way out, but on an average day, there is every chance I would have been in the shower at that time. Instead I had just used the bathroom and couldn't wash my hands, which was maybe even worse. And really wanted to brush my teeth after breakfast but that wasn't an option. So if you stay here, definitely ask about the water situation when you check in!
