Having had a less than perfect experience, I was asked to call the management team which resulted in my husband and I being invited back. What a difference - from welcome to goodbye - the food was as good as our previous visit but this visit the service was spot on. We sat in what used to be the bar area which was very relaxed and comfortable We recommend the coconut pannacotta with pineapple - simply superb.

Arrived at this destination with a friend for a Saturday night stay. The inn is situated next to an industrial unit that wasn’t working the next day as it was the weekend. The inn was quiet when we arrived and we were welcomed by a member of staff who told us about breakfast time and our dining reservation was checked. First impressions were mixed, as most of the floor space set up for dining. Just a couple of chairs by the fireplace that weren’t comfortable and were placed alongside the main thoroughfare to the large wrap around bar. The beams and interior were light but there was a cluttered and cramped feeling. We were shown to our room, an executive twin room. Plenty of space and clean, bar a bit of dust on desk panelling. The bathroom was very clean with lots of towels and toiletries although there were some small mosaic tiles that were broken or missing. The beds were comfortable and smelt good. However my side table lampshade was missing and my friends light needed the wire to be lifted to turn on and off. A small amount of tea bags were available of mixed variety and fresh ground coffee. A nice touch was a pint of milk in the fridge, although in the quiet of the night the fridge sounded like a tractor! We had booked a table and the restaurant was quiet. It is vast and has many nooks and crannies but again all set up for dining. The menu was varied, I went for the veg salad, I’m not a veggie but I didn’t fancy the heavy food or a burger. My friend had the pea risotto. Pricy for the size of dish and nothing special. Our G&T’s were served in tall glasses rather than balloons which we asked to be changed. The waiting staff were attentive. There was no atmosphere as the restaurant was dead, as was the pub itself. We went up to the room at around 11pm and had a good nights sleep. Breakfast saw a choice of eggs cooked in every way imaginable or full English or elements there of. My friend was happy with her full English and I had two poached eggs on sourdough that was underwhelming and looked anaemic. We had to remind the staff for tea and coffee top ups we’d asked for so we really weren’t impressed as hardly anyone in the breakfast room. Needless to say we wouldn’t recommend or return.

What a lovely hotel! The old building has such character, the room was quiet and comfortable and the staff were all extremely friendly and professional. I had a delicious Full English in the morning that was just right. Thank you for making my trip such a nice one.

Friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived. Great staff, imaginative and tasty food, extensive wine list. Our room wasn’t large, but provided everything we need. The location is excellent for us as it’s “halfway there” so we’ll definitely be visiting again. All in all, a very good find.

We spent a long weekend at Bird in Hand as our base for my son’s wedding, and it was perfect. From the moment we arrived, we received a warm welcome that set the tone for the entire stay. The hotel was comfortable, impeccably clean, and the rooms and bathrooms were excellent, with great hot water and shower pressure. Breakfast was fantastic — a great start to the day with plenty of choice. The restaurant made every meal a delight, with high-quality food, attentive staff, and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. With such a seamless combination, it truly felt like entertaining at home without any of the work. Everything ran smoothly, our guests were happy, and we couldn’t have asked for a better stay

Really warm and helpful reception upon arrival. Lovely room. Most enjoyable meal in the evening with excellent service - the steak pie was superb. The inn has a very pleasant ambience and is run with friendly professionalism. It is also good value. We are so impressed that we have signed up for the Loyalty Club. Would we stay here again - you bet! Let’s hope that others in group are just as good.

I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights because of a work trip, and unfortunately cannot recommend it at all. •The door of my ground floor room opened straight into the beer garden, with garden tables being just a few metres away from my front door. This meant that I could clearly hear all the noise (singing, loud music, loud conversations) while in my room, and people also kept accidentally hitting my door. Not too bad or late as I stayed here from Sunday to Thursday, but I would imagine on warm Friday or Saturday nights you wouldn’t be able to get much sleep due to the noise. •One of the pillows was absolutely filthy and stained and so was the duvet. •The fridge was very noisy and right next to the bed, so it kept me awake all night. I was tempted to unplug it but then wouldn’t have been able to have milk with my cup of tea in the morning, as there were no long-life milk sachets, just fresh milk in the fridge. •The lighting is very dim – there was no ceiling light, just two dim bedside lights and a dim desk lamp. So it was impossible to work or study in the room as it was so dark. •Despite there being three good size mirrors, it was impossible to do my make-up as there wasn’t sufficient lighting anywhere, including the bathroom. •The bed was really uncomfortable and I could feel the springs. After four nights, my back was killing me. •Only one free power socket in the room, and it was nowhere near the desk, so it wasn’t possible to use my laptop while plugged in, and it wasn’t possible to use more than one device at a time. •The obscured bathroom window wasn’t quite obscured enough for my liking and I felt quite uncomfortable using the shower / toilet. A net curtain or blinds would be good. •You have to push / pull the front door quite hard to lock it and it is not obvious whether it has been locked, and could easily be left unlocked accidentally. •Large gaps around and below the door, which meant cigarette smoke from the beer garden just outside my room got into my bedroom. •One morning, around 6.30am, some contractors turned up to empty the septic tank, which was rather noisy and smelly. I was already about to leave for work so it didn’t bother me too much, but it is probably not the nicest way to be woken up when on holiday. •No food shops nearby – the garage shop next door has a very minimal selection and no fresh fruit etc. Driving to the nearest supermarket was a one-hour round trip during the rush hour. •Bathroom a bit run down and the shower curtain could do with a wash, or being replaced.
