Podere Spedalone

Nestled in the rolling hills around Pienza, Podere Spedalone feels like a secluded countryside retreat while still being within easy reach of iconic towns, vineyards. We were warmly greeted by the hosts Anna and David. Breakfasts and dinners emphasize regional Tuscan cooking with dishes that highlight seasonal produce and their incredible chef Ivan's craftsmanship. The open kitchen setting was a delight, giving all sense of connection to the cooking process and enjoyment wonderful tuscan wines and delicious meals. Highly recommend this place.

Sept 25-28 2025 We rented a car in Florence and drove to Podere Spedalone. We got off the highway onto a dirt road and I started wonder what we got ourselves into as the drive off the grid. Then the farm house sat in front of us looking over the Tuscan countryside and I knew we made it to the bonus level. The old farm house is charming and comfortable and pulled from a piece of art. The staff were incredible, thoughtful, caring and took tremendous pride in their hospitality. The morning breakfast was a perfect start to the day. We took a pasta and cookie making class with Rodi and had one off the best days of our trip. We laughed, made friends, unlocked a new skill and then lunched on the pasta we just made looking out at amazing views. During the day we ventured out touring the towns of Pienza, Montalcino and Montepulciano but made sure we made it back to Podere Spedalone for the sunset aperitivo and dinner. We spoke to chef the evening he prepared for us a Florentine steak, one of the best pieces of meat I have had in my life, and the passion for what was shared with us at the table each night resonated. My words cannot truly exemplify how much we enjoyed our stay. The smiles we shared with staff as we joked about my attempts to speak Italian and the atmosphere that the old stone and wood building created to give us the perfect Tuscan experience.

Great rooms with good quality beds. However, you don’t stay there for that. The olive farm is spectacular. Several gardens, a large pool and an indoor lounge make sure you will best enjoy the splendid views of the Tuscan landscape. The dinner at the community table is a great experience. We’ve spent some hours talking to amazing people, eating a delicious dinner, drinking wine from the region and just enjoying the evening. Best for 2-3 nights.
