I wasn’t exactly thrilled about visiting Phoenix in August, right in the middle of the summer heat. But I ended up being so pleasantly surprised! The hotel was wonderfully quiet and much more affordable in the off-season. The staff couldn’t have been more welcoming, and the blast of cold air every time we walked in felt just as refreshing as the icy drinks served all over the property. The views and gardens were still stunning in August, and it’s true .. “dry heat” really is easier to handle than our usual Houston humidity, even at 113°. The hotel’s location was perfect for everything we wanted to do, from visiting ASU to catching a baseball game at Chase Field (which, thankfully, is also covered and air-conditioned!). We loved both the on-site restaurant and the pool … great food, great service, and a charming, historic atmosphere. All in all, this boutique resort completely won me over, and I’d absolutely recommend it. August turned out to be a surprisingly wonderful time to visit!

If one seeks a quiet, still refuge within which to think, compose, and strategize critical plans away from congested traffic, extreme heat and phone interruptions, Royal Palms is peerless. The privacy bordered on meditativeness. The pool amenities rivaled a Caribbean beach stay.

The grounds and historic elements are outstanding. Even though there was a wedding, we never heard a sound or felt crowded. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly and accessible. The food in the restaurant was quite good and fairly priced and the happy hour in the adjacent bar is outstanding. Our room however was disappointing. It was clean and spacious as was the bathroom, But needs..no demands a remodel. The furniture was easily 30 years old, the bedside lamps did not match and the usb port in the lamp base inoperable. To get to your coffee maker you had to open large cabinet doors which made it impossible to walk around. The pass through between the bathroom and the room itself is ridiculous. Honestly who wants to sit in a hotel room and look into a bathroom? Oh and there is a $50.00 resort fee And overnight guests pay a valet parking fee of $40.00 a night. So add $90.00 onto the high room rates.
