XXixicC_I am fortunate to stay at the Artisan Hotel in Lhasa, and this experience has become the warmest and most precious memory of my trip to Tibet. If you are also looking for a place to settle your body and inhabit your soul, I would recommend this unique space to you without stinging.
Through the hustle and bustle of Barkhor Street, the Craftsman Guyi Hotel stands quietly in a not-so-glamorous alley. The moment you push the door, it seems to step into another time and space. There is no standardised coldness of star hotels, and the air is filled with a faint Tibetan incense and wood tone. The most shocking thing is the huge Tangka wall in the lobby, with magnificent colors and fine strokes, and the eyes of each Buddha statue seem to tell the story of a millennium. Later, I learned that every wood carving, every old carpet, and even a door ring here are all old objects collected by the owner from all over Tibet. Instead of being locked in glass cabinets, they are naturally integrated into space, where you can touch the textures that have been polished by the years and feel a “live” cultural heritage.
I stayed in a parent-child suite, the room was spacious and bright, the biggest surprise was the huge window, the blue sky of Lhasa and the golden roof of the Potala Palace in the distance were like a living picture set in the window frame. The interior design balances Tibetan style with modern comfort: beautiful Tibetan painted beams, warm cow dung fireplaces (decorated), soft handmade wool blankets, and smart toilets, humidifiers, floor heating and diffuse oxygen supply systems. Especially at an altitude of 3,650 meters, diffuse oxygen supply is simply a ”life-saving artifact”, which makes me sleep peacefully all night without any high anti-obsession. The bedding is extremely skin-friendly, lying down like being wrapped in clouds, giving me the deepest comfort in the cold night of the plateau.
The service of the craftsman has a kind of ”family style” thoughtfulness. At the time of check-in, the warm and polite proprietress handed over warm tea and white Hada, and a sentence of ”Tashi Delek” instantly dispelled the fatigue of all the journey. What makes me most comfortable is that in the morning on the sun-filled terrace, there is a pot of sweet tea, watching the white clouds pass the Potala Palace, that quiet and shocking, thousands of dollars are difficult to change.
The location of the hotel is perfect. It takes only 5 minutes to walk to the Jokhang Temple, and you can integrate into the tide of people who turn and feel the power of faith at any time. The Linyi shops on Barkhor Street, the fireworks of the Guangminggang Qiongtian Tea House, and even the hidden shops that need to be turned around to find are all within easy reach. It allows you to explore the heart of Lhasa easily, and quickly return to an absolute quiet and private haven after a day of noise.
I agree with my friends that the artisan is not only a hotel, but also a guardian of the soul of Lhasa. It uses the ancient art collections full of houses to spread a vivid Tibetan culture volume for you; With meticulous modern care, you can build a gentle fortress against the harshness of the plateau. If you are looking forward to the trip to Lhasa, not only to punch in the attractions, but also to a deep practice of dialogue with culture and inner heart, then the artisan is undoubtedly your ideal stop. It let me take away, not only the scenery in the camera, but also a life memory that was warmed, cured, and deeply baptized.
In short, every day in the craftsman's house, I am more convinced that the best trip is to live in another country, but find the hometown of the soul.

Buy an oxygen tube for RMB 10/piece, and you can arrange an oxygen machine at the lobby bar to provide free oxygen.
There were sanitary defects, cigarette butts were found, we don't smoke as a family, but it was acceptable, the sprinkler pipe leaked, and the water pressure increased after cleaning.
Everything was cured by the warm customer service.

It is worth noting that not all rooms have oxygen, and you need to book a ”room supply” room.
The hotel restaurant is also OK. The portion is large and the taste is good, suitable for those who don't want to walk out.

It can be said that the trip to Lhasa was to check in Songzan. The expectations were high before departure, but I didn't expect that I would still be amazed by the beauty here.
The housekeeper Luosang called to inquire about the arrival time before checking in, and he was already waiting at the door to greet us warmly when he arrived at the hotel. Lhasa in winter is more prone to altitude sickness than in summer. The housekeeper first took us to rest in the hotel lobby and tasted the special highland barley milk cakes and sweet tea, which was as warm as welcoming his friends to visit his home.
The battery car arrived directly at the guest room, and the door was opened with an ancient key. The ******* fragrance came out. The ******* decoration style is unique and elegant. The sunlight filled the living room through the ******* window. Language cannot describe this warm feeling.
Every Songzan person I met in the hotel is sincere and lovely. They really treat us as guests from afar, allowing us to have a more comfortable stay.
Breakfast is on the second floor, and you can overlook the Potala Palace. It's a pity that the Western restaurant on the third floor is closed recently. For dinner, I chose the ******* restaurant on the second floor. The dishes are very good. The restaurants are very quiet and the atmosphere is very good.
There is also a boutique next to the hotel lobby. The scarves from Nole and the carpets from Kavajian are worth buying.
I really don't want to leave. I will bring my family here again if I have the chance.

The hotel is perfectly situated right behind and to the right of the Potala Palace, making my windowsill my 'personal viewing platform': At midday, wisps of clouds drifted across its white walls and golden roofs, as if a breathing quilt was draped over the ancient palace; In the evening, the setting sun painted the Red Palace a honeyed hue, and as prayer flags fluttered in the wind, they seemed like countless hands applauding it; The moment the night lights came on, the entire palace suddenly 'came alive' – like an ancient ship moored in the darkness, carrying the stories of the Tubo Dynasty, slowly sailing towards the myriad lights of modern Lhasa. The complimentary biscuits were delicious, and the other snacks were great too! The butler and front desk service were warm and attentive. I arrived close to 2 PM, having not yet eaten, and the small eatery they recommended – the third shop after turning right from the hotel – was absolutely delightful.

It is only more than 100 meters away from the Potala Palace. You can shoot the scenery of the Potala Palace at 180℃, which is particularly beautiful. I would like to thank Sister Wu of Sky Mirror for patiently helping us take pictures. Her skills are comparable to those of first-class photographers. I am very moved. The breakfast is also very rich. The service awareness of the entire hotel service staff is very strong, enthusiastic, and full of intimacy, just like going home. This is the first time I have felt such warm service. Moreover, for a hotel of this price and standard, this price is super cost-effective. I strongly recommend it to everyone. The night tour guide has a wide range of knowledge and good service. He took pictures of us all while lying down. I give him 100 points. The sour soup yak beef hot pot on the first floor of the hotel is also a feature. The 200 yuan set meal is super value and very good. Everyone must come to check in when they arrive in Lhasa.

MM519628****I have stayed in this hotel many times. It has been open for several years, but the decoration still looks quite new. It should have been renovated before the New Year. There are many places to eat around. You can also go out for a walk in the evening to see the Lhasa River view and Nanshan Park. It is also very close to the Potala Palace. It takes about 20 minutes to walk there, and it should be less than 5 minutes to drive there. There are also small gifts after checking in. I feel that this is a hotel worth recommending 🤩

GGuest UserThe hotel isn't to far from the Portola Palace (a short taxi trip). I wouldn't say its a true 4 star hotel.
The room was a good size, quiet and didn't smell of cigarette smoke. The room was a little worn out; I couldn't get the TV to work, the mirror on the wet bar area was cracked, there were marks to the walls where paintings/pictures had once been. Most annoying was the shower cubicle and the shower over the bath had only cold water! On my last morning the power was off in my area of the hotel and the lift was not working due to the power outage.
The hotel staff do not speak English, but one lady working on reception was especially nice and helpful and we were able to communicate by using the translation app.
There are lots of restaurants near by, but next time I think I'd prefer to stay closer to the Portola Palace.
