The Esplanade Hotel by Compass Hospitality

Awful, avoid. Gutted I booked this hotel. If your staying in Paignton just don't book here. Check the reviews on this hotel for yourself. The team there doesn't care so why should you spend your money staying there cheap or not. Pay a bit more and stay somewhere a lot better.

Starting with positive- staff very friendly . Breakfast offered a reasonable selection which was of fair quality . However our room was a let down , far from the image on booking website. The en-suite facilities were disappointing; the toilet tiny the door couldn’t open fully; the capsule size shower was a challenge my well built husband decided to miss. Thank goodness we were only there for 2nights. It’s a shame the hotel has potential to be lovely but it seems in need of a great deal of refurbishment.

I stayed at the Esplanade Hotel Paignton for a few days and found it to be very disappointing. When I walked in my room there was a strong stale/fusty smell. I reported it at reception and they did have it cleaned. It was fresher the next time I entered. However, it was clear that no maintenance and very poor house keeping was taking place here. The shower/toilet room had a very dirty floor and around the toilet it looked like it had never been cleaned. The extractor fan in here did not work so this had a fusty smell too. The shower itself was so small I could hardly fit into it and the basin/sink was minute. I could only wash one hand at a time and even then the water from the tap came out of the sink. When I arrived there was no soap in the sink dispenser or in the shower. I did ask for some, but I wondered if the house keeping ever checked these things? The bedroom itself was very small and very dark. There were not many lights. I did try to open the curtains, but the windows were so dirty that I could not even see through them. Lastly, the tv would only stay on channel for about 4-5 minutes and then the signal would start to break up! I would not recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Torquay or Paignton.

We held an event weekend at this venue, the rooms were clean, great breakfast options staff were excellent. Our party event at the hotel was a great success. Thank you all for your hard work we will be back.

I booked the hotel for a Mind, Body, Spirit, Pagan and Craft Fair 2 day event. From the first phone call to arriving and being shown around, nothing has been to much for Kim, Ian, Zoe and the team. The function room was set up for us, table cloths on each table, correct number of chairs laid out. Very clean and tidy function room. The energy in the room was ideal. I have already booked for a 1 day event in December and 2 x 2 day events in 2026. Very friendly and accommodating staff.

It was a very nice hotel, the staff were very friendly, and the breakfast was good. The only trouble was I didn't want to get out of bed; the bed was so comfortable, so for any future stays, I will certainly use this hotel.
