"The staff at the hotel were very friendly and accommodating. For a new hotel, they took a lot of short cuts and they need to go room to room and fix things. There is a light switch by the door that doesn’t turn on any lights, the lighting is minimal, the air conditioner and the bathroom fan both sounded like an airplane ready to take off! On a positive note, the bed was comfortable. The gym had 2 broken bikes and old treadmills making it unappealing. It did have a nice bar and coffee cafe."

"Very well located for downtown Thames Street and wharf areas. Melville House is one building of about 5 in the street that are used for guest rooms. Upon arrival we were put in a different building. There is no front desk but an Innkeeper at No. 31. Check in and check out very easy. Room well appointed."

"We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Sarah Kendall House during our recent road trip through New England. Of all our inns across Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Rhode Island, this was our favorite. Our room was charming, clean, comfortable and spacious, and the overall house and garden were warm and welcoming. Bryan, Fran and their team were kind and hospitable, giving us great suggestions for things to do, not just during our stay in Newport but also onto our next location. Breakfast was a full spread of delicious options -- hot, cold, savory and sweet. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it!"
