Voco Astoria by IHG

I am currently staying at the voco Astoria in New York and this morning was one of the most uncomfortable and embarrassing hotel experiences I have had as a guest anywhere. The hotel issued complimentary breakfast passes (as in the image) at check in. This morning between 7:15 AM and 7:25 AM my brother and I were using those passes at their partner restaurant Anemi Modern Greek. The restaurant manager suddenly approached us and escorted us to the General Manager Henry Lattarulo who confronted us in a public area and questioned us as if we were doing something improper. He was not polite and the tone was completely unnecessary considering that these breakfast passes were provided directly by the hotel. The experience destroyed any sense of comfort or hospitality. After several minutes he finally admitted that the passes were valid and told us to return to breakfast, but at that point we no longer felt comfortable. This was not a casual mix up. This was a public confrontation toward paying guests over something the hotel itself provided in writing. It has made us uncomfortable even being in the common spaces of the property for the rest of the stay. IHG needs to review this situation because the leadership behavior we experienced was unacceptable for any hotel brand especially one under IHG.

This hotel is delightful, nicely appointed and brand new. Getting to Manhattan is easy via the train. The N/W line is steps away, but you cannot hear it from your room. Rooms have Lavazza coffee, recyclable/reusable complimentary water bottles, mini fridge, good storage and hooks for garments. The staff is amazing and the neighborhood is walkable and full of restaurants and services. The bed was the absolute best.

Excellent, well renovated small hotel. In a very good location. Plenty of restaurants around (lots of Greek obviously). Safe to walk around, fun. Close to US Open (that was the reason for my trip). Hope they keep it up. Good job

I had a wonderful stay at this new hotel. The location is unbeatable, just steps from the subway and with easy access to all that NYC has to offer. (Don’t let the proximity to the subway concern you though, the rooms are completely quiet, and I didn’t hear a thing!) The neighborhood is also a huge plus, with fantastic restaurants and bars all around, making it easy to explore without going far. The staff was also very welcoming! Overall, a perfect spot for both convenience and comfort and will definitely come back and recommend!

The Voco Astoria is everything I want out of my New York hotel without breaking the bank. Staff is attentive and eager to help with everything, including dining recommendations (skip the overpriced midtown Manhattan institutions—the restaurants in Astoria are both cheaper and all-around better). My room was delightful—they’ve done an incredible job soundproofing against the many sounds of the city. Manhattan is just a short Uber or subway ride away, so I’ll absolutely be staying here again regardless of what I plan to do in the city.

We were really impressed by our stay at the Voco Astoria. The room was really comfortable and had lovely, elevated touches. So cozy and quiet, and the area around the hotel was full of restaurants and coffee shops if you want to explore!
