The Meritage Resort and Spa

Facilities: Guests appreciated the resort's amenities, including a well-equipped gym, nice pool and jacuzzi, and remodeled rooms. The hotel offers an adults-only pool, enhancing the experience for guests seeking quiet relaxation.

My husband and I stayed the night after making one-month-in-advance reservations for a Concert View room on Saturday, Sept. 13. The front desk had no record of our request when we got there. It eventually got sorted out, and our room was lovely (very quiet, great bed, etc.). But the main reason we booked the room was to enjoy the concert from our balcony. When Mavis Staples started to play, second act, we could barely hear her because there was some very loud competing music coming from another location up the hill on the hotel's property, a wedding party of 700 with a very loud DJ. It was a cacophony of sound! Mavis even asked in the middle of her set: "What is that sound?” During the day, the adult pool was full of drinking people, and the chaise lounges were not reset when people left. It seemed understaffed and was not at all inviting to swim or sunbathe there. The bright spot of our stay was the restaurant Olive and Hay; the food and service were excellent. However, securing a table was not a smooth process. I called the concierge from our room, and after several attempts to get through, she finally picked up, but then said we had to make a reservation online. After some prodding, she very reluctantly made a reservation for us. The Meritage is a beautiful property. But for a truly a luxury experience (matching the price), it has some work yet to do in mastering the details of service.

The accommodations were more than adequate. The location was excellent. We did a family Thanksgiving. Looking forward to doing it again. We especially enjoyed and appreciated the service we received from Mr. Kaleem C. The property was clean and quiet.
