APA Hotel and Resort Joetsu Myoko

APA Hotel and Resort Joetsu Myoko ★★★

📍 1090 Okemi, Myoko

"The uphill climb to the hotel, which felt like a private road, was too long. I couldn't easily stop at a convenience store to buy anything extra because it's a secluded house deep in the mountains. There is a shop, but it's expensive. My room was on the 11th floor with a nice view and the window opened a little. It was old, but you could tell they put a lot of effort into the renovation. The bed and pillows were too soft, so I couldn't sleep on my back. The good points were the spacious sauna and the good selection at the buffet. The hot spring, which I was looking forward to the most, was tasteless and odorless, and it was a shame that golfers also came to wash off their sweat. I got a 50% discount with the Hokuriku discount, but I don't think I want to come back."

Super Hotel Arai Niigata ★★★

📍 120-8 Inoyama, Myoko

"Great for self-drivers, it's like a service area. Convenient for both Myoko Ski Resort and Joetsu city center. It's clean, and the beds are comfortable. After skiing, you can use the large public bath. There's a convenience store downstairs and multiple restaurants."

Lime Resort Myoko

Lime Resort Myoko ★★★★

📍 2251-2 Sekikawa, Myoko

"The rooms were spacious; we booked one Western-style and one Japanese-style room. The hotel's public bath was also very comfortable, and it wasn't crowded during our stay, making it a wonderful place to soak after skiing. The hotel is also not far from the ski resort, about a 10-minute drive away. Overall, the hotel offers excellent value for money."

Akakura Kanko Hotel
9.3 (24 reviews)

Akakura Kanko Hotel ★★★★

📍 Tagiri 216, Myoko

"As many have noted in their reviews, the food here was absolutely delicious. I stayed in the main building, and honestly, the walk to the bathhouse in the colder months felt a bit inconvenient. However, aside from that, everything else was perfect."

Akakura Hotel
8.1 (27 reviews)

Akakura Hotel ★★★

📍 486 Akakura, Myoko

"The location was great and convenient, but it was an old ryokan. I understand it's an old building, but the ceiling in the changing room was completely black with mold, and there was mold on the mat above the sink, making me hesitant to put my luggage there. The shower head also had noticeable mold, which made me reluctant to touch it. The front desk staff were very polite and good, but I think it would be better if they paid a bit more attention to the cleanliness of the facilities."

HOTEL SOBOKU
9.7 (3 reviews)

HOTEL SOBOKU ★★★

📍 1555-1 Nagamori, Myoko

"Second time staying with them for ski trip and quality remains there. Location is central to many slopes"

Akakura Wakui Hotel

Akakura Wakui Hotel ★★

📍 Akakura 28, Myoko

"It's close to the slopes. The building is old, but it's well-maintained and not uncomfortable. The food was delicious, and the hospitality was the best! I'd like to go again."

"The hotel's location is remote, so it's best to drive. Many locals use the bathhouse and the accompanying hot spring facilities, so hygiene can be a bit lacking. This was also the first time I'd encountered a hotel with coin-operated lockers. Tea was provided after the hot springs, but all other amenities required payment. The hotel room was spacious, with a lovely view of snow-capped mountains and cherry blossoms. The bathroom had a separate bathtub, but it was a bit inconvenient to use."

"I found a discount coupon in Myoko City, so I booked a stay there. At check-in, another person received a coupon worth 2000 yen. I was a little disappointed that I couldn't use it inside the hotel. The hotel staff told me which stores I could use, and I went shopping. Since it was probably after the autumn leaves and before the ski season, I think the coupons were available. However, although there was sleet when we arrived, it started to snow heavily in the evening. Well, I left the hotel room up to me this time, but it was a spacious Japanese-Western style room that had been beautifully renovated. The sofa in the room was also big. The wash area and toilet are unit baths. There is no safe. I started by taking a bath in the indoor bath on the first floor. The water was quite hot (probably around 42 degrees), but it was pleasantly hot. It is a free and transparent hot spring. The washroom area is stocked with toiletries and other toiletries. Maybe it was because the water was hot, but after a bath I had apple cheeks for the first time in a while. The next morning, I went to the open-air bath on the third floor. There are two washing areas, but the open-air bath is large. The open-air bath is a semi-open-air bath with the entire surface open. In the morning, there was a blanket of snow. Dinner was at a separate beer garden. It's only a few minutes by shuttle bus. Breakfast was a buffet at the hotel restaurant. The content of Viking is normal. There were no local products like this. Maybe it's because some of the staff are Vietnamese (?), but we also had Vietnamese pho and banh mi. For rice, there was tororo and barley rice, as well as sea bream rice with chazuke. The snowy scenery from the restaurant and the sea of clouds were very beautiful. It was a reasonable hotel, and I was able to experience a beer garden buffet dinner, and it was a great experience with the scenery for the first time this winter, a nice hot spring, and a clean, spacious room."

"Located in a service area, this is a very Japanese-style express hotel. It's clean and tidy, with great service. The breakfast is delicious and adequate. There's free coffee and wine in the afternoon and evening. There are washing machines. There are several restaurants nearby, and a Lawson is across the street, which is very convenient. Many Japanese office workers stop here on business trips."

Lime Resort Myoko ★★★★
"I stayed one night on the way from Toyama to Togakushi. It was a ski and hot spring hotel. There were very few people staying there. The room was large but there was no bathroom. I had to go to the hot spring downstairs to take a shower, which was not very convenient. The bedding was a bit rough. The breakfast was average, but it was enough to fill me up."

Akakura Kanko Hotel ★★★★
"This was my second time staying at this hotel. Last time I only stayed one day, this time I stayed two. September is off-season, and booking two days in advance was RMB 500 more expensive than booking separately. This hotel is very weather-sensitive; I recommend canceling if it's cloudy or rainy for several days in a row. On my first day, visibility was very low due to heavy rain, and the fog outside the window made it impossible to see even the trees, which was a very bad experience. The room also had a slight odor due to the high humidity, which exposed the room's shortcomings without the beautiful view. The air conditioner was too loud, and the toilet was difficult to flush. The carpet was too worn. The next day, the weather cleared up, and everything was beautiful again. I bought a cable car ticket at the front desk and the hotel delivered it to the cable car station. The top of the mountain was beautiful, and the air was fresh. On the way back, I asked the cable car staff at the cable car station to call the hotel. They were the same hotel, and the bus arrived in just over ten minutes. There are three restaurants, two of which offer breakfast: one buffet and one Western-style set menu. The buffet has a wide variety of dishes and good taste, while the set menu is average, but the view is beautiful. I booked a room with breakfast and dinner included. Dinner was served at Shirakaba. Kaiseki is fine, and the quality is excellent, suitable for Chinese palates. The special kaiseki I chose for an additional fee the next day was terrible, with a heavy sugary sauce that made it unpleasant. The service was first-rate. Meals can be reserved during check-in, but meals are fine. There are no restaurants or convenience stores nearby. We also visited Kasumi Falls this time, but the hike is difficult and the falls are small, so it's better to just wander around the hotel gardens. The hot springs are great and worth experiencing. The hotel is located in Myoko Plateau, so be sure to email ahead to schedule a pick-up. There are no buses or taxis, and the ride takes about 15 minutes."
