"Our 2nd visit to Mirsoum Han Hotel. We wanted to come back 8 months later because we were very pleased with both the hotel and the service on our first visit and because it allowed us to return from Mardin with beautiful memories. The hotel is very nice. It has been modernized without spoiling the authentic structure. It is extremely comfortable. Just like our last visit, Diyar Bey hosted us very well with his sincerity and smiling face during our previous phone calls and during our stay at the hotel. As always, Gülistan Hanım hosted us very well with her smiling face, the warmth and hospitality of a southeastern person. Fırat Bey also hosted us very well with his nice conversation, service and sincerity. Unlike our last visit, since the kitchen was under renovation, we accepted the offer to have our breakfast at the other branch of the hotel, Mirsoum Hotel, thinking that it would be of the same quality as the breakfast at Mirsoum Han Hotel. But unfortunately, it did not replace the Mirsoum Han Hotel breakfasts that Gülistan Hanım and Medine Hanım meticulously prepared, cared about both product quality and taste, presented with elegance and accompanied by Davut Bey's conversations. Although they may seem similar visually, the products were of poor quality, the service was careless, and the presentation style was far from what a quality hotel should be. Only Gülistan Hanım coming there for us, taking care of us, doing her best to please us and serving us coffee on the terrace was very special. What we were sorry about this time we came to the hotel was that Davut Bey, whose services we were very pleased with when we first came, who added spirit to the hotel, Medine Hanım, who hosted us with her delicious food and smiling face, and Kubilay Bey, the professional founding manager of the hotel, had left the hotel. It was a privilege for us to know these valuable people who had left the hotel, who worked devotedly, thinking of serving the hotel as serving Mardin, and the hotel's winning as Mardin's winning. I would like the guests who will come after us to experience the spirit that these valuable people who have taken such great care of Mardin and the hotel have brought to the hotel. In my opinion, continuity should be the basis for service quality. We would like to thank Gülistan Hanım, Diyar Bey and Fırat Bey who hosted us very well at the hotel."

It has a terrace with an exceptional view, where we enjoyed delicious breakfasts and pleasant evenings. And most importantly, it has wonderful staff. The owner of the hotel, Mr. Selman and his son Fehmi helped us whenever they could and made sure that we were always comfortable. And Mr. Sevket, this generous man with a calming presence, always had a kind word for our children, walked us to a great restaurant when we could not find a way and brought us breakfasts and tea to enjoy on the terrace. We only write reviews when we find a true gem and this was definitely one of them. Thank you to everyone from Hanedan Konagi Butik Otel for your warmhearted attitude and for making our stay with you a wonderful experience we will remember forever!"

Özellikle otelin müdürü Mustafa bey tüm misafirlerine çok ilgili, her isteğimizi hemen halletti sağolsun. Eylül veya Ekim aylarında tekrar gitmeyi planlıyoruz. Yine adresimiz Fairouz Konak hotel."

"The Mardius Hotel is in a spectacular location just below the commercial district in the old sector of Mardin, facing Syria and northern Mesopotamia. Narrow, step alleyways provide the only access. Our luggage was carried on a donkey. The hotel was a family home that was converted, and that is where the main problems are. Our room was entirely constructed of stone, and it was so cramped with period furniture that walking was an adventure in skinned shins. Moreover, the stone arch entrance to our bathroom was about 5'2" at its apex, but I'm 5'10" in stocking feet. Each entrance and exit was scary. To add to the fear factor, the restroom wash basin protruded out over the stairs. Finally, in this conservative Muslim community we weren't surprised to learn that no wine was served with dinner, but we were surprised to be told that we could bring our own wine into the room as long as we were discreet and no one saw us! For nearly $500/night, we were back in high school, sneaking around to have sip of the grape. There's just no excuse for such rules in five star hotel catering, presumably, to a heterogeneous clientele."

LEGACY MESOPOTAMIA HOTEL
"We arrived at 2:00 AM. The hotel is located in the middle of the upper and lower roads in the old town, making it inaccessible by car. We had to grab our suitcases and walk up a narrow alley with steep steps to God knows where! We didn't know this initially. We first went to check in, planning to get our belongings later, and thank goodness we did, because while we were walking around and checking out the hotel, the air conditioning, lights, and water were all turned off! The stone rooms are very beautiful, but there are no windows, and consequently, it's impossible to stay there without a split AC system! When we asked where the water and electricity were, the administrator explained that every single day the power and water are turned off from 2:00 AM to 7:00 AM. We were shocked – couldn't shower in a room that felt like a hammam, no windows, and a strong sewer smell permeating everything! We left there, and I immediately canceled the reservation online, but they had already charged us, and then just told us to go screw ourselves! Therefore, I absolutely do not recommend this hotel. We just threw away 21,000! Be careful! It's better to just walk past this hotel!"

"I booked Kale Konak at the last minute and was lucky to have had an opportunity to stay there. The positives? The property itself is an extensively restored home. I understand that the renovation took three years and it was worth the effort. If you want to stay in an ‘authentic’ property (in all of the positive senses of the word), you might not be able to do better. The location of the property is excellent - it is a short walk to Republic Square, the main shopping street and most of the things that you will want to see. The breakfast is both high quality and voluminous. Bring your appetite. The staff was very helpful and most spoke good English, including one that is studying English full time at a local university (who was particularly helpful during my stay). English speaking ability, even for those in the hospitality industry, is not a given in Mardin, so that was a big plus. Negatives? I would say that the property had a small handful of issues that I am sure that it will iron out in time. I personally was not able to get the WiFi to work in my room, though I was able to get decent 4G coverage when outside of my room and in the numerous and spacious common areas of the property. If you are mobility challenged, the property extends across a number of floors, with breakfast being served on the top floor, so be sure to request a ground floor room (though, to be fair, the old town Mardin would be a difficult place to visit with those with mobility challenges given it is very hilly, though I did see a local navigate a long flight of stairs on crutches). The property was clean, though the stone floors are naturally a bit dusty. In all, if you arrive with a bit of a sense of adventure, you will probably appreciate the place for the gem that it is and if you expect absolute perfection you might be disappointed."
