We had another pleasant holiday, the El Mehdi hotel justified the four stars it officially has. The reception staff was friendly, we quickly completed the formalities and were escorted to our room. I liked the location of the hotel and the fact that the resort is not too big. Everything is reachable in a few minutes, including the beach. The food was varied, with show cooking, a large selection. The lobby bar with drinks also worked flawlessly. The hotel was fully booked, but there was no long wait anywhere. The exchange office was also open for a few hours in the morning and evening. The rooms were furnished with old furniture, but clean, as was the surroundings. In front of the hotel you just take a taxi and for 10 dinars go to Mahdia. A beautiful, traditional town, I recommend a walk to Cap d' Afrique. We were in Mahdia on Friday, when it is market day. OMG, what a hustle and bustle. On another day the city was completely different. There are many beautiful shops where you can see the weaving and choose from beautiful silk and cashmere scarves or traditional towels. We loved it and would definitely visit this place and this hotel again.

We are not picky, we are hard workers but by no means ultra all inclusive and not even remotely 4 stars. The hotel is outdated, everything is old, the fridge is rusty, everything in the bathroom is rusty, old and stained towels, the furniture, the food was like it was prepared for sick people (bland, no salt, not too many spices), repetitive, uncooked beef, like you were eating chewing gum, old and broken sun loungers. This hotel should undergo major repairs. The beautiful beach with fine white sand but full of cigarette butts, the entrance to the sea is clean. The rooms were partially cleaned. The park is beautifully landscaped and maintained. The pools are beautiful and clean. For a gin or other strong drink, only at the bar next to the reception, in the other bars only beer, wine, poor quality juices, poor quality coffee. At the reception a smaller and better-made lady was behaved badly, on the other hand the manager is a man with a big heart, he solves all the problems. For the money I paid it is ok but never here.

What can I say. Had a brilliant holiday. We arrived late due to flights but were taken to our rooms swiftly after check in. There was food available in the night express consisting of pizza or pasta. The pizzas were not very nice although the pasta was brilliant. We had rooms 604 initially which smelt of sewerage and 610 which was fine. As it was so late the 4 of us (2adults and 2 kids) bunked in room 610. Couldn’t put up with the smell in 604. Next morning we went to reception who swiftly changed our room to 614, no arguments, no smell and reception were so accommodating. Both rooms although dated were very clean, fresh towels every day (just leave the old ones in the bath and the cleaners will change them). The cleaners were absolutely amazing. They made all kinds of shapes with the towels and sheets which impressed my little girl. The animation team worked very hard always talking to us while round the pool. One of the animation team (failed to get his name) even gave one of our party a nickname of Fanta and made the effort to speak to us. He was brilliant. Also a mention to Simba who was always so approachable and who was my youngests favourite. Mini disco was good fun for my youngest and gave us an hour of no nagging. She did struggle with some of the songs as they were in different languages but she soon picked up the actions. She also played mini golf with the kids club and also darts which she won every time she joined in. Cannot fault the hotel it is beautiful so are the pools and the slides are brilliant. The beach is beautiful although we did only spend a few hours on it as I got stung by a jellyfish so put me off, not the hotels fault obviously, just Mother Nature. We did a few excursions like a walking tour, pirate boat and the camels. Brilliant excursions. Massive thanks to Ali baba and his team at the camels. My daughter passed out and his staff were absolutely amazing. The care they gave her was second to none. The street market was eye opening and absolutely crackers but we loved it. Cannot praise the staff and the hotel enough. The only let down was the food. The only thing that was hot was being served at the pasta station. The food was geared up for the French/Italians and Germans. Not really catering for the English (that being said, we were the only English family there, so why should they). The staff actually seemed shocked when we told them we were English. The food in the Bain Marie’s was cold. No problem though we did order food in and it was cheap enough to do so. The ice cream was only served at a set time along with waffles and pancakes. Not really the type of all inclusive we are used to. We have been to all inclusives that offer ice lollies throughout the day and snacks all day. This was not the case here. But this did not spoil our holiday. The entertainment area had plenty of chairs although it could have benefitted from having a bar closer and tables to put drinks on. The bar staff in the reception area wer

I have never been to a worse hotel, the rooms were as dirty and broken as some kind of workers' hostel, the bar staff (especially the pool bar) made it clear that you were annoying them, they would grab the top of the glass with dirty hands. (I was sick for four days despite my excellent hygiene habits) The drinks were just chemical compounds, you won't get 100% fruit juice there. The Italians who give positive reviews here have their own wing of the building which is of a completely different standard, they have their own animators, their own exterior bar, and own disco stage. The only thing they share is the food. The other people, mainly from Eastern Europe, are first put in bungalows which are of the worst standard where plaster falls on your head. If you complain and especially if you give a bribe at the reception, they will move you after a few days. In other words, half a day was lost moving and relocating to another room, which is not in a completely dilapidated condition, but only partially. The only thing that keeps this hotel afloat is probably the generally good food, the friendly people who clean the tables and the animators. Although the mini disco for children is exactly the same every day, but our child enjoyed it every day. The photos of dirty, moldy rooms and bathrooms that people post here are a cruel reality. I didn't take any photos of it, because I want to erase this vacation from my mind as soon as possible. Hotel El Mehdy never again!
