What a hidden gem! This charming, small-scale inn is tucked away in an incredibly peaceful location and oozes atmosphere from the moment you walk in. Everything is meticulously cared for and spotlessly clean. My room was compact but cozy, with a comfortable bed and a surprisingly spacious bathroom. The hospitality deserves special mention: the hostess is warm, attentive, and makes you feel at home instantly. There’s no menu to choose from, but trust me—the dinner she prepares herself is absolutely fantastic. Breakfast is just as perfect: fresh, tasty, and a great way to start the day. An ideal spot for anyone wanting to escape the hustle and simply enjoy peace and quality. I’ll definitely be back!

If you want a small hotel in a quiet village location, convenient for the main road to (or from) the North; with a very warm welcome; which is clean; has a comfortable bed; good food; an amazing selection of whiskies; friendly fellow guests and locals - then I recommend the Hightae Inn. Morag and Mark are excellent hosts: chatty, interested, informative and helpful. My room looked out across a garden (the next door neighbour could tidy this up!) to a field of cows and the sheep in the distance on the rolling hills. The Hightae Inn is a former pub with rooms and it suited me perfectly as an overnight stay on my journey to Glasgow. It's easy to find; (it isn't in Lockerbie, take the Lockerbie junction off the motorway, drive on the A709 into Lochmaben, round Castle Loch and you'll find Hightae. They warned me about Sat Navs and mine wanted to lead me a merry dance.) Negatives: None really except that I was too long for the bath! I had the upstairs room near the grumbling boiler and that wasn't a problem (and they are going to fix it). I slept like a log. This is a part of Scotland that most people drive straight through and I think it would be good to come back here next time and spend a bit longer to explore the area. I am sure of a warm welcome and that whatever whisky I want, they'll probably have it.

Recently returned from our stay at the The Hightae Inn, wow what a super stay. We arrived on a sunny afternoon and were greeted by the lovely Morag who immediately made us feel very welcome. We were soon enjoying a nice cold beer and a glass of wine in the sunny courtyard before an amazing dinner. Morag is an excellent cook and our meal for was superb. Our room was homely, very clean and with a comfortable bed, we had a great nights sleep. Hightae is a pretty, quiet village surrounded by countryside, its close to the main routes north and south, so worth taking a short detour to find. All in all, a trip to The Hightae Inn is like visiting a friends home and being very well looked after while there, can highly recommend and will definitely return.

Hidden Gem The Hightae Inn is a little gem. It’s clean, beautifully decorated and quite obviously run with much thought and love. We had such a friendly welcome and Morag was a superb host throughout. Our evening meal (at extra cost) was 3 courses of amazing food with expert flavourings. Morag is an amazing cook. Highly recommended and yes we will be back for another stay soon.

What a lovely Inn We were travelling back from the Open at Troon and couldn’t have found a better place to stay and relax. What a wonderful Inn. Morag provided a lovely dinner. The rooms were very clean and well serviced. The large bed was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Thoroughly recommend if you are in the area.
