"The hotel was fenced off, so security wasn't an issue. The restaurant was very reasonably priced and delicious, and there was a bar too, which was great. I'd love to stay here again."
"The New Hotel Parktonian is located in the Bramfontein district in the center of Johannesburg. Although this area is considered safe in the travel advice on the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, the direct surroundings of the hotel leave something to be desired. I do not recommend taking the Gautrain to Park and then walking. It is better to call an Uber or an inDriver (cheaper) from the airport to the hotel. The hotel is very large and safe, a security guard opens the gates when a car arrives, not just anyone enters this hotel. The room is very spacious, it is a suite with a comfortable bed, air conditioning, a sofa, a flat screen TV and a kettle with tea and coffee available. The bathroom is adequate although the shower head did not work very well. There are free toiletries, clean towels and a hairdryer. I enjoyed my stay."

"I stayed at the Melville Turret for 9 days, alone, split between work and vacation.
Everything went very well, and I highly recommend this Guesthouse with its welcoming, friendly, warm and smiling staff, always available to meet any need.
I had initially booked a room for only 5 days, I had no problem extending this stay directly on site.
The rooms are clean and well appointed, as are the collective areas. Very pretty interior courtyard. Breakfast is generously prepared by Prisca, incredibly kind and with whom it is very easy to exchange and share (I miss your smile :) ).
The street and the neighborhood are calm and safe, we are close (10 min walk) to activities / bars / restaurants on 7th.
I could not have asked for better for a first experience in Johannesburg.
Thank you again very much to the staff and owners! As promised, hope to see you again soon...
Greetings from France,
Morgan"
"This B&B is run by a kind-hearted Chinese couple. It’s easy to communicate and the environment is very good. It’s very safe to go out in this area during the day. Taxi service is very fast. It is recommended to buy a phone card when you come to the airport here, or ask the landlord to help you buy it because it is available on Taobao in China. The ones I bought are basically useless. There is a supermarket nearby where you can walk to buy ingredients and cook in the kitchen. It is very suitable for Chinese people to stay in a hotel. "
"I had a very pleasant stay there. Everyone working at the property was kind and helpful, the property owner as well.
We had nice discussions and if I needed an advice, they'd help me.
The place is clean, quiet and orderly.
The internet is fast and there are all amenities possible for cooking.
The only little downside is that some days the water was lukewarm and due to the cold weather it wasn't pleasant but I don't know why that happened and it was temporary - I forgot to ask if they noticed it.
But really, nothing to complain about.
There are a few stores around where to buy food for cooking, some bars, not far from them a concert venue that programmes alternative music such as old school hip hop and punk and there's a cultural entre one minute from the venue."

Great
GGuest UserStayed for two days at the Hyatt house . It’s a quiet, hidden gem with great food and a relaxing atmosphere. The only downside was the limited TV options — just DStv, no streaming services.
TTianshangyougedamiaomiaoOverall, it was decent. However, some of the older Black staff members showed significant discrimination towards Chinese guests, and their attitude was very poor, despite me leaving a R50 housekeeping tip every day. In contrast, the younger Black staff were very friendly and enthusiastic towards Chinese people, and I'd often give them a few US dollars as a tip. There was a young Black woman at the front desk who seemed like a junior supervisor, and a handsome young intern. The round-faced one was particularly warm. I even prepared Christmas gifts for them, but unfortunately, they seemed to be on vacation those two days, so I gave the gifts to the cleaning staff as a checkout present instead. I wasn't very happy with the room assignment; my window faced a connecting corridor platform. The day after I checked out, there was a shooting and robbery incident on the hotel's doorstep platform, where two white women were robbed and shot. It's still a bit dangerous there.
PPierre04A Truly Exceptional Stay at Fairlawns Boutique Hotel
My recent stay at Fairlawns Boutique Hotel in Johannesburg was nothing short of outstanding. From the moment I arrived, I felt enveloped in an atmosphere of calm, luxury, and genuine hospitality. This is the kind of property that doesn’t just meet expectations — it elevates them.
I was booked into one of the Villa Suites, and it was an experience in itself. The suite was beautifully appointed, spacious, and thoughtfully designed, blending elegance with comfort in a way that felt both indulgent and homely. Every detail from the plush furnishings to the serene garden views contributed to a sense of effortless relaxation. It truly felt like a private sanctuary.
The service throughout my stay was impeccable. Staff members were warm, attentive, and intuitive without ever being intrusive. Whether it was assistance with luggage, dining recommendations, or simply a friendly check‑in to ensure everything was perfect, the team consistently delivered with professionalism and charm.
The hotel grounds are equally impressive. Lush, tranquil, and meticulously maintained, they create a peaceful escape that feels worlds away from the bustle of the city. It’s the ideal setting for unwinding, whether by the pool, in the spa, or simply strolling through the gardens.
Dining at Fairlawns was another highlight. The food was beautifully presented and full of flavour, with a menu that balances creativity and comfort. Every meal felt like a treat.
Overall, Fairlawns Boutique Hotel offers an exceptional blend of luxury, privacy, and heartfelt hospitality. My stay in the Villa Suite was unforgettable, and I would recommend this hotel without hesitation to anyone seeking a refined and restorative escape in Johannesburg.
GGuest UserI had an outstanding stay at The Catalyst Hotel in Sandton. From the moment I arrived, the staff were warm, professional, and genuinely welcoming, making the check-in process smooth and effortless.
The rooms are modern, stylish, and impeccably clean, with comfortable beds and thoughtful amenities that made it easy to relax after a long day. The attention to detail throughout the hotel is impressive, creating a luxurious yet comfortable atmosphere.
One of the biggest highlights is the hotel’s excellent location. It’s conveniently situated close to Sandton City, Nelson Mandela Square, and the Gautrain, making it an ideal choice for both business and leisure travellers.
The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of fresh, delicious options, and every meal I had at the restaurant was of excellent quality. The facilities, including the gym, pool, and spa, are well maintained and add tremendous value to the overall experience.
What truly sets The Catalyst apart is the exceptional customer service. Every member of staff went above and beyond to ensure my stay was enjoyable, always greeting guests with a smile and a willingness to help.
If you’re looking for a modern, comfortable, and well-located hotel in Johannesburg, I highly recommend The Catalyst Hotel. It offers outstanding value for money and delivers a level of hospitality that makes you want to return. I will definitely be staying here again on my next visit to Sandton.
GGuest UserHotel is rated at 5star but the amenities are quite average. The standard king size room is smaller than I have experience in some other hotels if that range. You do not find water glasses in the room. Room service is very slow and sometimes your call will just keep transferring between room service and reception if you needed something. If you ordered food in your room, you have to make payment immediately. It does not amount up to check out. There is only one restaurant, one cafe in the hotel. You can walk up to nearest restaurant for your food that is 800m away.Pool is there but you have to carry your own towel. The day we arrived, there was a birthday party around the pool with loud music. We avoided going to pool side. Shoe shiner is in the lobby and if you get your shoes cleaned he needs to be paid as compliment and that complement begins with 100rand minimum. To me it’s an average hotel and ok for a couple of days. It had some conference going on so extra crowd was also in the lobby for the two days we stayed If you are looking for a luxery experience, better choose another hotel. This hotel is ok for not more than two days of stay.
GGuest UserSouthern Sun Rosebank is truly an amazing place to stay. From the moment you arrive, the atmosphere feels welcoming, professional, and well-organized. The staff go above and beyond to make guests feel comfortable, always offering friendly service with a smile.
The rooms are clean, modern, and very comfortable, making it easy to relax after a long day. The hotel’s location is perfect, with easy access to nearby shopping areas, restaurants, and key attractions, which makes it very convenient whether you're visiting for business or leisure.
The food is another highlight — fresh, delicious, and with a great variety to suit different tastes. The overall environment is peaceful yet vibrant, giving you the best of both comfort and energy.
What really stands out is the attention to detail and the consistent quality of service. Everything feels well-managed and thoughtfully designed to ensure a pleasant experience.
Overall, Southern Sun Rosebank delivers an excellent stay and is definitely a place worth visiting again.
ZZintle MalgasThe location is spectacular. The rooms are good value for money. I liked my stay a lot. The only thing is if you’re booked into a room further away, you must know that if it is raining you have to walk outside and to the entrance to fetch your food orders or get your uber — only downside.
GGuest UserIt's giving more 3 than 4 stars? Customer service poor.
Holiday Inn was full so this was a close alternative.
Had amenities but their outlets were in the kitchen far from the bed? Not very business traveller or relaxing traveller friendly.
I booked a queen studio which had a kitchenette which was great for warming food etc. Decor a bit tired so could do with some love. But apart from a very dirty bottle left on the balcony it was clean.
Location is excellent for Rosebank Mall even if you have to play chicken to cross the road 😆
Customer service was severely lacking. I thought Radisson Red staff were slow but at least they were always there. You can't call frontdesk . It's all QR codes and WhatsApp. Late check out would be the cost of another night R1980. Staff had a, I dunno attitude and werent very helpful. 1 security guard and 1 young lady in the lounge are the only exceptions. Outlets in the lounge and office were local only and I had to really ask to get where I could buy adapters / converters.
Next time I'll go elsewhere. They're not customer focused enough for me.
GGuest UserI recently stayed at this hotel and while it’s not a five-star property, the experience was genuinely pleasant overall. The biggest highlight was definitely the staff, they were incredibly friendly, warm, and enthusiastic. From check-in to check-out, they made us feel welcome and valued, which truly makes a difference.
They also recommended a restaurant nearby, and it turned out to be an excellent suggestion. The food was delicious and the service there was outstanding as well.
The rooms are well-equipped with practical amenities, including a microwave, stove, washing machine, and even two bedrooms in one unit, which makes it very convenient for families or longer stays.
That said, there is room for improvement when it comes to hygiene and overall maintenance. There was a slight musky smell in parts of the hotel, and the cleaning standards could be improved.
Despite this, we genuinely enjoyed our stay, mainly because the staff’s kindness and professionalism really stood out. With some attention to maintenance and cleanliness, this hotel has the potential to be even better.
