The hotel room is pretty big by Japan standards, and the feeling of the hotel is really grand! Lots of locals were staying there, but the rooms are a little bit dated. The toilet lights were quite dim and the bathrooms could use an update. However, everything worked perfectly and the stay was still extremely enjoyable!
The hotel is situated right next to a bus stop so that makes things super convenient! There’s also a family mart behind the hotel (shortcut! go out of the main door, turn right, walk down the ramp, immediately turn right and right again into the small path, go up the stairs past the hotel park, then turn left and cross the small roads, and you’ll find the konbini) The hotel also rents out bicycles to hotel guests FOC, so you can take the bike literally anywhere! We rode to the supermarket (~10 mins away) and also down by the river (10/10 recommended!) and just explored lots around!
Gifu is a lovely quiet town and we would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to experience a side of Japan that isn’t just Tokyo or Osaka.

Such an excellent hotel in terms of location and even room layout and space. It fit 2 comfortably (but we’re asian so we can only speak for ourselves) and even gave us space to open our luggages and have an area to chill at. Super convenient and so close to the station, getting around was never an issue! My husband fell sick on Day 2 of us being in Gifu so that konbini attached to the hotel was a real lifesaver, as well as the Sugakiya next door! Hotel staff were excellent and super helpful as well. Lots of locals staying there and also lots of amazing food places and parks around the area. Our main objective was to go hiking and the buses made that incredibly convenient! It basically goes clockwise or counter-clockwise around Gifu so you dont really have to worry about getting lost at all. Fantastic trip! We love Gifu!

Stayed for 4 nights at the Hotel Gifu Grand last December. Our room had a direct view of Gifu Castle. The breakfast was incredibly lavish, offering not just local sake but also high-quality dishes like cold-cut Hida beef steak and crab legs. They even had a self-service Hida Takayama ramen station, which I happily indulged in every morning 🍜. Highly recommend!

Location is very good for travellers using Gifu station, just across a street with rows of restaurants behind the hotel. Renovated and clean, we booked a smoking room by mistake, but there was no available non-smoking room to change. Able to open the window to clear some cigarette odour in the room.

I often use this hotel for business purposes.
It's close to Gifu Station, and although the adjacent parking lot has limited space, there is a large affiliated parking lot around the hotel, so I think it's convenient.
Breakfast is also free and delicious.
I will definitely use this hotel again.

We stayed overnight as the hotel was the venue for the general meeting.
The rooms were clean and the building was old, but I think it's a good hotel.
The breakfast in the observation restaurant was also good.

Amazing
AAichiyudetuzimamaThe hotel upgraded my room, and I got to see the Nagara River, which was absolutely wonderful. There was a lovely old lady who spoke Chinese and helped us with charming guidance and service. On the first floor, they offer free coffee and tea, and before 5 PM, there's even complimentary white wine. The hotel also provides a twice-daily, half-hour Japanese guided tour of the old town, which is quite interesting. We pre-booked the cormorant fishing (Ukai) event organized by the hotel, and it was very traditional and distinctive. We walked from a special Ukai pathway down to the river and boarded the two exclusive hotel boats. We were incredibly lucky that evening; there weren't many boats, so the performance boat could come right up to ours for a close-up view. Before the main performance, there was a song and dance boat show, followed by three fireworks displays announcing the start of the Ukai show.
ままっそーStayed in a double room for one night in April 2025
[Good points]
- Well-equipped bathing facilities
- Massage chairs available for free
[Points to note]
- The hotel is visible from JR Gifu Station, but it is a little far away
[Overall review]
Dormy Inn hotels have a wide range of bathing facilities, so you can use them with peace of mind. I was tired from traveling, so I was grateful to be able to use the massage chair for free for 15 minutes after bathing.
CCrazyKimThe reception staff are very friendly and helpful, and it is very generous that the hotel opens the onsens for use at 1 pm which is 2 hours before check-in time. The room is nice and clean, and you can see the river on one side and the mountain with the Gifu Castle on the top on the other side, same with the outdoor onsen. The set dinner is very good value for money, and the Hida beef is really nice. The hotel is just next to the Gifu Park, inside it there are many other attraction spots and you can also take the cable car to reach the top of the mountain where the Gifu castle is located. The famous traditional fishing show with cormorant birds can be viewed at the river bank right outside the hotel.
GGuest UserThe hot spring water was very nice, and it was great that I didn't have to bring a towel from my room.
There was no TV in the sauna room, and no shelves to put personal items like water and towels, so it would have been nice if there were.
Perhaps because it was a weekday, the bath was empty and I was able to warm up at my own pace.
Perhaps because the breakfast venue was a time-selection area, there was no hassle and I was able to enjoy delicious freshly made sweetfish tempura and homemade curry.
GGuest UserWe made a last-minute dinner reservation, but they handled it courteously. I was also pleased that they quickly addressed the mistake I made when I made my reservation.
From the hotel's bath floor, I could see the Nagara River right in front of me, and I was amazed by the beautiful view.
The bathroom in our room was also lovely.
Dinner was good, but breakfast was also excellent, and it got me excited from the morning.
Thank you for a fun time.
ママイク MikeStaff friendly, the hotel is located near the train station and car rental shop, there is a convenience store near the station, Yoshinoya is open late at 4 o'clock. The hotel does not have a parking lot but there are many cheap parking spaces nearby, about 800 yen / 24 hours. The hotel comes with a simple breakfast.
AAnonymous UserAn old hotel with 1980’s furnishing but well-maintained and relatively clean. Location wise is quite a long walk from Gifu station. Short stay for business visits or layover during long travel if the room rate is low, otherwise go for newer hotels nearer to the Gifu station.
GGuest UserSudden rain. I was told that I couldn't take it to my room because I only had one umbrella for rent. Can you borrow an umbrella because I want to get ready and go out in about 30 minutes? When I heard that, I couldn't bring an umbrella to the room anyway, and by the time the result came out, the umbrella was gone.
I didn't steal an umbrella, but I just wanted to borrow it for a short time, but I felt very uncomfortable ... A good hotel without it. The person at the front desk other than that person was a good person.
The hot water in the shower has no temperature adjustment function.
The free morning was different from the photo, but it was good to have it.
Green salad was a business potato salad, sorry (ω`)
GGuest UserThe room is big, the bathroom and bathtub are spacious, beautifully decorated, but the room is quite dark tone, going in and out frequently is not very convenient. Suitable for adults who come as a couple, not suitable for a large family.
Ppiyopiyo5Cleanliness is ok. It was a perfect stay if you just sleep. It is within walking distance to the international conference hall and is good for business use.
