La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club

This certainly has the country club vibe and are very strict with their policies. It was very well maintained and loved the service at the beach. We used the BBQ service and had our son who had graduated from UCSD pick up fresh fish at the fish market and grilled it on the beach. The firepit was also a nice thing to have as well and it is only $150. They have the chairs and table and the beach service sets it all up. Make sure you bring a tablecloth and if you have lights, bring those. We noticed that several people did the same thing we did the next night and I thought that was a great idea. They of course were probably residents of La Jolla and not traveling like we were.:)

We have been here about 30 times over the years, and love the location and beach but they really need to update the rooms. We stayed in a two bedroom beachfront room and the inside looked like a 3 star hotel with 5 star prices. The carpet was worn and dirty in places. The furniture needs a refresh. The "master bath" in our room was tiny - so small that two of us can hardly be in there at the same time. It would be okay if it was nice, but it isn't. It looks like it was last done in the 1980s. The cleaning people only came at 8AM but some family members were still sleeping so asked them to return, but they never came back again. Also the men at the front desk have been there for a long time but continue to not treat us as special guests even though we have been there so many times. They act like they are doing us a favor but letting us stay there. They have redone the pool area and bar and both look great. The time has definitely passed to redo the bedrooms. Will also add the beach boys and girls are wonderful and helpful.

Sand, surf, long walks on the beach and rooms literally on the water's edge...can't get better than this! On the North end of the property where we had the whole gang...5 rooms for our annual trek to the LJBTC. Looking forward to 2026 already!
