"The location is very good, it takes less than 10 minutes to walk to La Jolla Beach. The hotel parking fee is only $20, but the parking space is not guaranteed. It is best to arrive early during the peak season. There are also many cars parked on the road outside the hotel. The room is not big but not crowded. Other hygiene and facilities are good. Overall, it is a very cost-effective hotel in La Jolla."

"The hotel can go directly to La Jolla from the back door to see the seal. The bed is very comfortable, but the sound insulation is not very good. The restaurant delivery service trolley can be heard clearly at night. There are few people in the gym. I stayed here for 2 days and went twice."

The Shoal Hotel la Jolla Beach ★★

"We had a nice stay at the Shoal Hotel on this our second stay. The location is good for a walk around La Jolla. We stayed over 4 days but unfortunately the stay was marred by the guest that stayed above our room. This person had a habit of shifting a suitcase or furniture on the floor above our room when we were trying to get some sleep. This happened on a second night between 2am and 4am which was particularly annoying. We understood that the reception was manned 24/7 but never found anybody in the reception area. When we mentioned this the next morning were told there was a phone number to call for 24/7 service of which we were unaware. Other travellers would be advised to check the hotel out of hours contact details unless they encounter the same experience as us. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay and the local amenities."

"This hotel completely changed my opinion about drive-in hotels, I highly recommend it! The rooms are huge, and the heated swimming pool is right outside the French doors – it's beautiful. The rooms are also very large and clean. I love drive-in hotels!!! It's so convenient to drag luggage around. fyi: If you check out very early in the morning, the check-out box is near the right wall of the glass door facing the reception area; it's not very noticeable, it took me a while to find it!"
