This is my second trip to Marea (previously under another name but with the same owners). I only want to talk about how much I like it if you all promise not to book in for the same weeks that I visit again. It’s quiet, which I love, but within walking distance of busier Paje. The rooms are clean, well-sized, have aircon, fans and cute balconies. Some of the rooms have just been redesigned, and I know there are more upgrades in the works. It has a wonderful Neapolitan restaurant, which is helpful because you don’t ever feel like you *need* to hunt for other food. It has a perfectly sized pool which never feels crowded, and not being in the centre of the resort, doesn’t come with lots of eyes gazing in your direction. Most of all, the staff are fantastic. They always have a smile and a kind word. Service is good and easy. It’s a great find for those looking for a boutique family run resort that also doesn’t break the bank.

Wenr as a group of 10 plus tour guide. Ordered 2 mains the same Only 1 came. Enquired and was told it was coming. Waited and asked again and was told they could make another and the wait was 8 minutes! No apology. The rest of our party almost finished. Shocking service. Took plates away before we had really finished. Couldn't wait to get us out of there Avoid

Without a doubt, best Italian restaurant on the island. Hosts very friendly and available, service is impeccable, and every dish bursts with authentic flavor. From fresh pasta to pizza napoletana to seafood, everything is made with passion and precision. A must-visit if you're in Zanzibar and craving a real taste of Italy.

Loved the property, its location by the sea its personel and owners. The restaurant with italian food. Service great, special mention Colin in the receprion, Joy in the restaurant and Leila who cleaned my room.
Did not like the floors in the bathroom as very alippery when wet.

The Marea (formerly the Geo) is a gem
I did lots of research for my family's trip to Zanzibar because there did not seem to be a lot of accurate information online. I felt comfortable with my reservation at the Marea (fka Geo) and it turned out I was right. From the owners (who may be there to greet you) to the hospitality, and dining options were perfect for a middle class family from the West Coast.
The room is basic but comfy enough. You can ask for extra pillows. The besds have sheets but no blankets. This encourages you not to blast AC all night long.
Also: the beach. I heard mixed answers about the quality of the beach in Jambiani. Well, I can tell you the beach right in front of the hotel is perfect white sand. The water is not clear. There's some (not a lot for us) seasweed. Maybe it's not as good as Kendwa and Nungwi. But there were almost no beach boys. And the ones who were there accepted a no after the third time. My family had the beach all to ourselves each morning. That's never really happened to us before! Don't miss out on a walk to the village. The people are super nice. Bring something to MOVE Zanzibar to donate to the kids it benefits.

We’ve eaten at the Geo Italian Restaurant on the beach a couple of times now. The food is really good and very generous portions. The staff are great and don’t mind when we share a beer and the meal. The first time we had the Margherita Pizza, 2nd visit was catch of the day with chips and salad. We’ll be back again - probably the spaghetti bolognaise.

Our family of four enjoyed an open-air lunch at Geo recently. (We were staying elsewhere on the island.) We found the service to be very friendly and welcoming; the food to be fresh and tasty; and the experience to be memorable. Would definitely recommend as a nice casual lunch stop. A nice vantage point from which to watch the kite surfing taking place on this stretch of ocean. It was quite windy that day, but we are from Cape Town so that didn't bother us :) The restaurant has a pleasant indoor seating area as well. We had bruschetta to start, a margherita pizza (wood-fired) and fried calamari for mains, and ice-cream for dessert. All delicious.

We discovered this spot quite by chance after a trip to Jambiani. Since then it has quickly become a favourite for lunch, drinks, great beachfront and swimming. If you want a chill day, good food good drinks with beach paces away this is the place to be. Its a family run establishment who are very hands on and friendly. The icing on the cake was the service, from the get go the team were great at making us feel at home and the pizzas and pasta dishes are delicious having us come back again and again! The only slight blight is the pool attendant with a surly and unhelpful attitude so we generally ignore him. If you order at the restaurant you can use the pool gratis. There is free ample parking. Carry your own towel as they do not supply this. This is definitely a place I recommend and try out the pizzas mock and cocktails as well! The mixologist knows what his doing!
