Best Western Independence Kansas City

Very poor customer service. Would not recommend to anyone.

We’ve stayed at a lot of BW properties over the past year across the country. This BW at best is below average. While clean and recently renovated, staff is uninterested or overwhelmed. Our room was basic. Some outlets didn’t work and the bathroom fan was shoes-in-the-dryer loud. After two calls to the front desk a maintenance person arrived. He made a couple adjustments that quieted the fan then announced “that’s the best I can do. The fan is old and we can’t get parts.” Minutes after he left the fan returned to its previous state, but just a little quieter. Breakfast service was weak. The coffee ran out, the only yogurt choice was plain Greek (PLAIN not vanilla) and the entree for four days was a variation on sausage patties and eggs. Some will think this is a petty review and to lighten up. As stated above, we’ve been to a lot of BWs. Some have been outstanding and some terrible. This one is just above terrible—I’d call it lazy. If the stupid fan can’t be fixed then replace it! They’re cheap. We stay at BWs because the value is good and the experience is positive. Not here, so much. They can do much better.

We arrived at 3:10 pm, check in after 3 . Room was not ready. We waited about 15 minutes and they gave us the keys to our room. It was not ready. The manager personally took us to another room which also wasn't ready. He then took us to another room which we stayed in. We got settled in the room about 4 pm. Staff was helpful and polite.

Road trip Comfortable beds, friendly, helpful staff. Clean room and hallway. Quiet. The refrigerator did not work and the EV charger did not work. We did talk to front desk about EV charger, but they were unable to help at that time.

The main issue we had is the room was damp and had a moldy smell. Everything else about our stay there was great. Because our stay was short, we didn't contact management about the issue, so it's not clear how they would respond or if it was the one room or if all of them are like that. We have not yet received our deposit refund either but are sure this will be resolved soon.

The room was very dirty, stinky and it was very uncomfortable to stay in the room with the smell. It was loud and didn’t feel safe. The pool was so small. Staff kind of rude. For the price I paid, I am not happy! It was expensive but bad service
