Taichung Hostels

This time I brought my wife to Taichung for her birthday, and we stayed at the Norway Forest Cultural Center for the first night. We arrived early to drop off our luggage and immediately experienced the friendly and polite service, which made me feel happy and warm. Although there was a minor issue with the air conditioning in our room when we checked in that evening, the front desk manager came up and helped us switch to a larger and more comfortable room. Their service attitude was also super nice. It's no wonder this hotel has reviews above 9 – it's absolutely deserved. If I have the chance to come again, it will definitely be my first choice! 🥰

The room wasn't huge, but it was very quiet, tucked away in an alley. Parking wasn't an issue though; there was mobile parking right at the entrance, and the hotel also provided information on nearby paid parking lots. I had a great night's sleep; the bed was really comfortable and the pillows were excellent. The air conditioning was perfectly cold. We also received a welcome drink voucher that we could use at the front desk for drinks and snacks. After checking out, we realized we'd left our power bank and charging cable behind. To our surprise, the hotel proactively called us to ask if we wanted them to hold onto it. Since we don't live in Taichung, they even helped us ship it home via Black Cat Express, and we received it the very next morning, carefully wrapped in bubble wrap for protection. This is truly a thoughtful and wonderful hotel! Definitely my top choice for staying in Taichung.

very compact room. minimal space to hang clothes on top of pantry. near to train station, opposite famous miyahara shop (window view of this room). room and toilet are clean if you don't pay close attention to corners. good water pressure and temp for shower. depending on staff, you could meet someone friendly or someone who don't even smile while check in/out.

Very convenient location! Taking the bus is super easy as the stop is just within walking distance, and there are a few good food options nearby too. I even found a Michelin Guide local food spot just a 7-minute walk away! The toilet is a bit old and lacks a side spray/tap, but overall it was still a great experience!

Overall, we had a pleasant stay at this hotel. The location was excellent, with plenty of great dining options nearby. The hotel's also has a unique wall display featuring cards with local recommendations, which was a fun and helpful way to discover places to explore and eat around the area. The staff were friendly and welcoming throughout our stay, always ready to assist when needed. One challenge we encountered was that the double room we originally booked felt quite small for our needs. Since a family suite was not available at the start of our stay, we upgraded midway through when one became available. The family suite was spacious, comfortable, and significantly enhanced our experience. If you're traveling with more than one person or prefer extra room, the family suite is definitely worth considering. The hotel also does not provide disposable amenities, in line with Taiwan's sustainability initiatives, so guests should remember to bring their own toiletries. One thing to note is that breakfast is not served in the hotel building itself. The breakfast venue is located about two streets away, roughly a five-minute walk from the hotel. While this wasn't a major inconvenience, it may be something to keep in mind, especially during bad weather or for guests who prefer having breakfast on-site. Despite the initial room size issue and the off-site breakfast arrangement, we enjoyed our stay overall thanks to the convenient location, friendly service, and excellent family suite. We would consider staying here again.

We had a great stay at Chance Hotel! The room is small but comfortable and okay for the price. The best part is the location, it’s very close to Taichung Station and public transportation, making it easy to explore the city. The room was clean, and the staff were helpful and accommodating. Overall, it was a convenient and pleasant stay, especially for travelers who plan to use public transportation. We would definitely stay here again on our next Taiwan trip!

This was a business trip, and I found this Japanese-style hotel close to my work location, within walking distance. The hotel has a very Japanese feel to it, and for a solo traveler, the room was spacious and comfortable. They also offer snacks for guests, which is a very thoughtful touch. I'll definitely prioritize this hotel next time I need accommodation!

The hotel offers good value for money, but the breakfast selection was just so-so. On our second day, we visited the Second Market, recommended by locals, which was only about a 5-minute walk away. You *must* try the Shan He Braised Pork Rice, beef pan-fried buns, and Lao Lai Black Tea! We had a great time walking around and eating, and our brunch was easily sorted. As for the room, the bed is right in front of you as soon as you open the door. However, the toilet and shower areas are separated (wet and dry), and there's enough space to open a large suitcase. P.S. There are no convenience stores right near the hotel; you'll have to walk a bit to find one.

The front desk staff member was very detailed in their explanation and highly efficient, getting us checked in quickly. The hotel room was quite tidy and spotless. The hotel has a unique design; from the outside, it looks like a concrete building, but once you step inside, it has a distinct charm. The atrium design provides space for plants to grow. Concrete, wood, and plants are integrated perfectly, allowing you to experience a 'ruined' aesthetic even in modern times. The warm yellow lighting, however, gives you a sense of security, creating a vibe like a post-apocalyptic shelter. Afterward, we ordered a cocktail from the hotel before 10:00 PM. It was quite strong, and we slept very well after drinking it. The location is near the train station, within walking distance. There are also the Hanzixi / Yizhong Night Market nearby, making it quite well-connected. It's about 10 kilometers from the High-Speed Rail station, accessible by bus.

I recently spent two nights at The Metro Hotel (豪爵大飯店台中館) in Taichung, and overall, it was a very practical, comfortable, and well-situated experience. Located right on Wuquan Road in the West District, this 3.5-star property strikes an excellent balance between affordability and convenience. If you are looking for a reliable base to explore the city, here is a detailed breakdown of my stay.  The room was spacious, exceptionally clean, and featured a nice view of the surrounding city. The bed was on the firmer side but very supportive, providing a great night's sleep after long days of walking. A major highlight for me was the climate control. I absolutely need a cool sleeping environment and always set the thermostat to 21°C; thankfully, the room’s air conditioning was powerful and maintained that crisp, chilly temperature perfectly throughout both nights.  There are two minor caveats to the room: • Electrical Outlets: There are very few power outlets available. If you have multiple devices to charge (phone, laptop, power banks), I highly recommend bringing a small travel extension cord.  • Soundproofing: While the room itself was peaceful, the door soundproofing is a bit lacking. You can occasionally hear other guests in the hallway or neighboring doors closing.  The hotel provides all the essential basics without overcomplicating things. The bathroom was roomy with great water pressure and came stocked with standard toiletries. A huge plus for travelers is the self-service laundry room located on the 5th floor. The front desk staff were consistently friendly, welcoming, and helpful with luggage storage. It is worth noting that they strictly enforce their 4:00 PM check-in time—you generally cannot get into your room a minute earlier—but they do offer a generous 12:00 PM check-out, allowing for a relaxed morning.
