Raven Hotel by Greene King Inns

As the reception is unstaffed, it took 2 calls and 30 minutes of waiting at reception to be able to check in to my room as I was clearly forgotten about. Even if it was busy in the pub or a shift change time, I'd at-least expect an ETA and not to just be left waiting. At first glance the room seemed okay although when I went to use the bathroom before bed I found a previous guests body hair littered all over the bathroom cups which had clearly not been changed for my stay. You therefore cannot be sure things in your room have been cleaned or replaced at this hotel. The rooms also have very thin windows and are next to the road and pavement which means you can hear cars and people throughout the night. Although the staff seemed nice in my interactions with them, due to these issues I couldn't recommend this as a place to stay.

Spent 2 weeks here on Business and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The staff were more than accommodating. Really friendly and always willing to help! Location is great with a train station just a short 1 minute walk down the street for routes to London, Basingstoke, and Reading. Lovely little town as well. The room was very comfortable, and housekeeping always did a stellar job. Comfortable bed especially, I was really impressed. Free WiFi too, which is always a bonus. The food was fantastic as well, so top marks to the kitchen team. Not too expensive either. The Chocolate Fondant was a particular highlight! Descent beer selection in the pub. Loads to choose from. Big thanks to Miranda, Holly, and Abby who were a constant during my stay. Always around to help wherever possible; enthusiastic and professional throughout. A particular shoutout to Holly, as she was pulled from her usual role to help support the bar and restaurant staff (due to low staff I think) and she did very well! Professional throughout, so hats off to her. I also noticed some very supportive management from Abby and Miranda to Holly whenever she got a little stuck, which was lovely to see. Top marks to those three! A little shoutout to Callum as well who also helped the bar / restaurant staff due to low staff. I look forward to my next stay here! Well done all!

We’ve celebrated so many special occasions at The Raven over the years — our wedding reception in 2005, our younger daughter’s christening in 2015, and now our daughter’s birthday this year — and they never disappoint! Sam, the general manager, went above and beyond to make this birthday celebration perfect. He even made sure the function room was freshly painted ahead of time as promised when we booked back in April. His communication was excellent throughout, regularly checking in with us and making sure everything ran smoothly on the night. The buffet was delicious (though the sandwich-to-hot-food ratio could have been a little more balanced!), and we received lots of compliments from our guests about the quality. Having the bar, DJ, and dance floor all in one room is such a brilliant setup, and many of our guests loved being able to stay overnight in the hotel. The whole evening was exactly what we’d hoped for — we couldn’t have asked for better. We highly recommend Sam and The Raven for anyone looking to host a party or function in Hook.
