The Olde Kings Arms

The Olde Kings Arms has much to commend it: Good bed, good quality white bedlinen and towels, spacious ensuite with a wide shelf for make up and toiletries, well cooked breakfast, friendly staff. Hair dryer could be used in front of the mirror. But: 1) Guests booked to stay in rooms with the doors at the side are second class citizens because the side alley we walked through was littered with rubbish and cigarette butts. Also the door mat into the lobby wasdirty. Not welcoming. 2) If you are on holiday, as we were, it isn't ideal that if you are using the nearby paying car park, you have to be there at 8 a.m to pay for the car and last breakfast time is 8.30 a.m. Bit of an early start! 3) We asked for a quiet room so we got a very small room - once our bags and cushions fromthe bed on the floor, not much room to walk round the bed. There would be no room to leave a suitcase open. I believe the hotel has spacious rooms. I wish we had one as the traffic noise would be minimal at night- time.

Matt and his staff are a credit to the hotel and do all their best to accommodate their guests. The hotel rooms are quaint but in desperate need of investment and redevelopment. They aren’t the cleanest either. We ate most of our meals at other businesses as at every single meal we were told of all the menu choices that couldn’t be ordered as the ingredients weren’t available. One night we wanted to order pizza, there were absolutely none so only choice of burgers. Breakfast is a very limited time and once staff leave at 8.45am there’s no chance of further hot drinks, toast vet. There’s just no staff around at all until the afternoon. Disappointing although I reiterated the staff certainly do they’re best and they’re so so friendly.
