Absolutely beautiful room. We had the superior King with a bath and it did not disappoint. The bed was huge and after long, wet days walking a hot bath was needed! The shower was also excellent with good pressure and hot water. The room was spotlessly clean when we arrived and someone came in each day to restock tea/ coffees and clean round. We had a Mountain View which was lovely to look out at in the mornings and the room has a dressing table, chair and teapot :) The room was warm and comfortable with enough space for the 4 nights we stayed. Unfortunately, we only ate there on the last night and this was a mistake on our part! The food was absolutely divine. I would definitely return to the Travellers Rest next time we visit the Lake District.

This hotel is absolutely beautiful. There are so many positives it's hard to choose just a few. It's in a great location with stunning views all around, but only a 10/15 min walk into the centre of Grasmere. The staff are fantastic! So helpful and friendly and really make this place. Rooms are beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean with very comfortable beds. We ate in the restaurant at night and both the food and service were fantastic at a reasonable price. All in all we loved our last minute stay here and will most definitely be returning. Shout out to the young gentleman who had just started working there, he was super helpful and his customer service was amazing!

We really enjoyed our two-night stay at the Traveller's Rest. As an elderly couple, we were well looked after and found the staff pleasant and helpful. We loved the olde-world charm of this ancient inn which sits between lofty fells beside the road from Ambleside to Keswick. Grasmere village, a lifelong favourite; is just down the road. Our room was a little small, but spotless and with a comfortable king-size bed. We also had a fine view of Helm Crag. The menus offered a good choice and the quality was excellent. We would certainly stay there again.

This pub served the best homemade food I’ve had in a very long time, what a refreshing change to get delicious homemade food in a pub when so many pubs are chain restaurants with substandard food and given both myself and hubby are good cooks, I can be fussy. The steak and kidney pudding, chips, battered haddock and sticky toffee pudding were absolutely top notch! I went to a mitchelin star restaurant the night before (forest side) and whilst not remotely as fancy I enjoyed this just as much, well done to the Travellers Rest!

We stopped over here twice. The place has a very cozy and warm vibe. Best food we had on the entire trip, good vegetarian and vegan options. The staff is warm, kind and helpful. During the second visit although we were too early for lunch, we found excellent coffee courtesy a lady staff. It was her birthday and she went out of her way to offer us coffee at that hour since they weren’t open for customers at the time. I’d highly recommend.

Very few places have ever made us feel so welcome from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. We struggled as two of our party were stuck in traffic and the kitchen needed to close but the team couldn’t do enough to try and help us. Really quaint pub and restaurant and excellent food - but the service was exceptional. Thank you all so much.

Disappointing stay
The bedroom was small, with a tiny ensuite. The mattress was flimsy and very uncomfortable. The hotel sits on a busy main road and the traffic noise keeps you awake.
We stayed two nights and when our room was cleaned the shower gel wasn't restocked so had nothing to clean ourselves with. The shower itself is awful, with no water pressure, and the shower head isn't attached properly, so water comes out the top of it. The toilet seat doesn't work properly and keeps closing on itself, so hits you in the back when you sit on it.
Breakfast was disappointing - I had the Eggs Royale and the poached egg was hard and they didn't even toast the mufffin - not worth the extra £13 we paid each for breakfast.
All in all it wasn't a great stay and I wouldn't stay here again or recommend it to anyone, unless you're after somewhere really basic. Definitely wasn't worth the money.
We spent most of our stay at The Swan just down the road (which roughly costs the same) and if we ever return to the area we will stay there instead.

What a charming property. An old inn so it should be expected it is not modern but has been sensitively maintained. Staff were helpful and the manager was very hospitable. Food was exceptional. If you want a more traditional stay in a lovely location within the Lakes I would recommend
